Mastering the human race never seems to go out of vogue. Eugenics, like socialism, is wrapped and re-wrapped for popular embrace – but its roots never change: an elite group of the uber-wealthy, scientific and political classes will determine not just beliefs, property and lifestyles but even the biology of the race.

The latest attempt is Ray Kurzweil’s description of the coming new New World Order in his book: “The Singularity Is Near.” Just try to wrap your mind around his rationale for remaking the race in the image of the new creators:

Although impressive in many respects, the human brain suffers severe limitations…our thinking is extremely slow: the basic neural transactions are several million times slower than contemporary electronic circuits.

…Our version 1.0 biological bodies are likewise frail and subject to a myriad of failure modes, not to mention the cumbersome maintenance rituals they require. While human intelligence is sometimes capable of soaring in its creativity and expressiveness, much human thought is derivative, petty, and circumscribed.

The Singularity [a future period during which the pace of technological change will be so rapid, its impact so deep, that human life will be irreversibly transformed] will allow us to transcend these limitations of our biological bodies and brains.

• We will gain power over our fates
• Our mortality will be in our own hands
• We will be able to live as long as we want (a subtly different statement from saying we will live forever.)
• We will fully understand human thinking and will vastly extend and expand its reach.
• By the end of this century, the non biological portion of our intelligence will be trillions of trillions of times more powerful than unaided human intelligence.

What’s not to love about being the Master of your own Fate and Captain of your soul?

Except for the fact that, as individuals, we won’t be invited to the “Master of your Fate” party. It’s limited to the people who control the levers of power and there’s no opt-out button for those of us who won’t want to play!

“Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!” – The Great & Powerful Oz

Consider the narrative that runs through every major institution today – media, academics, government, corporate, religious – individuals, are NOT capable of making rational decisions in their own best interest and for their own “safety” should just admit & submit. Carefully crafted imagery that relentlessly invades our lives creates moral turmoil in the daily surrender of individuality to the collective. Greater turmoil yet that we face the grinding futility of trying to persuade our neighbors of the high cost of selling your soul to The LIE.

For, as we find ourselves immersed more deeply in the virtual reality of the scripted imagery, fainter grows the voice that warns against the impending darkness. “Pay no attention to the still, small voice calling you back to ‘cumbersome maintenance rituals’,” the narrator drones. Mantras beat their remorseless throb: “fairness, war on women, gay marriage, income inequality, global climate change, racism, rights, environmentalism, hate speech” – stealing the meaning of words, honest debate and refinement of the human spirit.

The deep division in our country today is not between religions, political parties, nationalities or sexual orientation. It is between worldviews. The Founders view:

the world is a gift to mankind by a Benevolent Creator with nearly unlimited resources that need to be cared for and cultivated for the benefit of mankind. Higher laws that guide the natural order of the universe also guide the order of societies.

The other side, propagated by those who worship power and control,

views the world as fragile, mankind as a predator animal destroying a planet of limited resources that must be rationed by an elite group who deem themselves superior to the rest. Superior to the higher laws and natural order as well.

It is very hard to find common ground in engaging the culture when the person across the table can’t distinguish your human intrinsic value from an amoeba!

Christianity, the guiding philosophy of the Founder’s view, honors the God-imaged individual and applauds the creativity and resourcefulness people apply to overcoming the difficulties of life. Frederic Bastiat, French economist of the 1800’s, observed:

Man can live and satisfy his wants only by ceaseless labor; by the ceaseless application of his faculties to natural resources. This process is the origin of property. But it is also true that a man may live and satisfy his wants by seizing and consuming the products of the labor of others. This process is the origin of plunder. … [M]en will resort to plunder whenever plunder is easier than work. History shows this quite clearly.

A free society only works for a moral and educated people; a reasonable demand for a universally cherished value. A moral view of mankind includes an acknowledgment that the primary difficulty in life is the evil in us. A simple universal truth is that although man is capable of great good, he does, indeed, have a bent toward great destruction. The Founders recognized the challenge of accounting for both in the pursuit of liberty. Free markets recognize the necessity of individuals determining the value of goods and services by their willingness to trade their “ceaseless labor” for a product. Constitutionalism erects boundaries to limit the insatiable lust for power and control.

The Founder’s View, although not perfect, has proven to be potent in unleashing mankind’s potential for great good and workable resolutions to age-old difficulties like racism, slavery, income inequality, wealth creation, opportunity, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Difficulties that Power Worshippers use to inflame fear and surrender individuality in the foolhardy and easily distracted.

Some of us will choose our own Savior!
