Author’s note: the following ideas and recommendations are made without any recompense or benefit whatsoever regarding the publication and sale of the book being discussed.

The book “Exceptional — Why the World Needs a Powerful America,” authored by Dick and Liz Cheney, recently became available in bookstores and other outlets throughout America. Being duly impressed by the material in the book and strongly desiring to recommend the book for all Americans to read, what follows is much of the book’s cover narrative. Among other things, the book presents important factual information that is lacking in much of the public arena today including instruction to America’s children in secondary schools and colleges/universities.

The authors state, “Our children need to know that they are citizens of the most powerful, good, and honorable nation in the history of mankind, the exceptional nation.” The book explains “why America has been, and must continue to be, freedom’s defender”* and “charts a path to restoring America’s strength, illuminating the steps necessary to defend against the growing threats to our nation, defeat militant Islam, rebuild the U.S. military, and preserve America’s preeminence.”

“For seventy years, America has been an unmatched force for the defense of freedom, peace, and security around the globe. Republican and Democratic presidents alike have recognized that although this has cost us dearly, the cost of the alternative — a world in which America’s adversaries lead, would be far higher. At a time of increasing threats to the nation, President Obama has abandoned this seventy-year bipartisan tradition. Working to diminish America’s role in the world, he has abandoned America’s allies, appeased our adversaries, and apologized for this great nation."The book makes"a firm and compelling case that the president’s unwillingness to safeguard American power has diminished our ability to adequately defend our nation, our allies, and our interests.”*

The authors state, “We must ensure our children know the truth about who we are, what we’ve done, and why it is uniquely America’s duty to be freedom’s defender. Our children should know about the boys of Pointe du Hoc and Doolittle’s Raiders, the battles of Midway and Iwo Jima — they should learn why America was right to end the war by dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and about the fundamental decency of a nation that established the Truman Doctrine, the Marshall Plan, the Berlin Airlift, and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. They need to know about the horror of the Holocaust, and what it means to promise ‘never again.’ They need to know that once there was an empire so evil and bereft of truth that it had to build a wall to keep its citizens in, and that the free world, led by America, defeated it. They need to know about the terrorists who attacked us on 9/11. They should understand what kind of world militant Islam will create if we don’t defeat it. They should learn about great men like George C. Marshall and Dwight Eisenhower and Harry Truman and Ronald Reagan — we must make sure they understand that it is the brave men and women of the United States armed forces who defend our freedom and secure it for millions of others as well.”

The Cheneys’ book, which includes a very enlightening section entitled “The Era of Obama,” is highly recommended as essential reading for all Americans concerned about the future of America. Lastly, it should be noted that the book’s dedication reads as follows:

“To the men and women of the United States Armed Forces, defenders of liberty, sustainers of freedom.”
