True Christians Should Flee the Presbyterian Church (USA)

Major Presbyterian leaders of the past are leaning over the parapets of Heaven and, if not weeping, they are shaking their heads at the apostasy of their denomination, the Presbyterian Church (USA). A couple of weeks ago, a Muslim leader prayed at the denomination’s national assembly. That would have been a big gig for any minister but for a Muslim it was a gag, as in regurgitation.

John Calvin and John Knox would probably be in the heavenly group along with Francis Makemie, “Father of American Presbyterianism” (who was tried for preaching without a license in the early 1700s); William Tennent, founder of the “Log College” (now Princeton University); John Witherspoon, the only active minister to sign the Declaration of Independence; Charles Hodge, longtime educator at Princeton Seminary; and Henry Garnet, former slave ordained by the Presbyterians who preached before Congress and became U.S. Ambassador to Liberia.

In that heavenly group were latter day Presbyterians who were also appalled such as J. Gresham Machen, denominational scholar who left the group to form the Orthodox Presbyterian Church; Evangelist Billy Sunday, who probably tried to get over Heaven’s parapets to physically engage the radical Presbyterians; Clarence E. Macartney, one of America’s greatest preachers and authors; William Jennings Bryan, former Secretary of State and lead prosecutor in the Scopes Trial in Dayton, Tennessee; and Carl McIntire, former pastor of the Bible Presbyterian Church in Collingswood, NJ, where I will be honored to preach later this month.

Muslim leader Wajidi Said was the main attraction at the opening session of the Presbyterian Church, USA General Assembly (2.5 million members in U.S.) and he waxed eloquent, praying, “Allah bless us and bless our families and bless our Lord. Lead us on the straight path — the path of all prophets: Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad.” He also prayed for “bigots” and “Islamaphobes.” Wasn’t that nice!

The Rev. Gradye Parsons knew the prayer was offensive, odious, obstinate, and obtrusive, so he tried to remove some of the sting by assuring the congregation that the prayer was “not an intentional one.” But of course it was. The apostate Presbyterians invited an unbeliever to pray to his pagan god that the Presbyterians would be converted to Islam and be put on the “straight path — the path of the prophets” that includes Mohammed! It is bad to be an apostate, but to be a stupid apostate in insufferable. What were the denominational leaders thinking?

Muslims do not believe that Christ is divine nor that He died on the cross so He was never resurrected. But then, many Presbyterians stopped believing those truths decades ago. The Apostle John warned in II John verse 9, “Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God,” so that puts Presbyterian U.S.A. people and Muslims in the same sinking boat.

The Presbyterian apostasy started many years ago in its seminaries and mission boards. The true believers tried to assuage the drift toward unbelief without success. Many of their scholars left the denomination and it has been drifting down and to the left ever since. The denominational leaders, while missing the money and numbers, were not sorry to see the uncouth, unkind, but for sure not uneducated Fundamentalists leave their abode.

Preachers and church members are to be informed, involved, and insistent for the truth, but that is not generally true today because college and seminary professors have failed to train young preachers to practice Biblical separation. Many were taught to “stay in and fight”; however, they stayed in the denomination but didn’t fight. Few even fussed. A few fumed. Now the denomination is a lost cause and a snake pit of unbelief.

In March 2014, Presbyterian U.S.A. voted to permit practicing homosexuals into church membership. Recently the radical church group accepted same-sex “marriage” as compatible with the Bible. I think it moved its headquarters to Sodom with branch offices in Gomorrah and San Francisco!

Gal. 1:8-9 commands us to be separated from the unorthodox. “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.” There can be no compromise with heresy. We cannot obey God while we pretend that false teachers are simply misinformed ministers.

All Christians are to be separated from the unrighteous, the unruly, and the unorthodox.
