Yes. Islam is actively and aggressively at war with Jews, Christians and all people who are not believers in Allah. At war with us. The Noble Koran says “Jihad, Holy fighting in the cause of Allah, is one of the fundamentals of Islam, one of its Pillars; an obligatory duty of every Muslim,” and, “No one has the right to be worshipped but Allah.”

To do nothing as we are now is to concede defeat in this war. We can and must turn back Islamic Jihad to preserve our freedoms and our nation.

Saudi Arabia funds Islamic Jihad in the world. Iran is a major financer of jihad in the Mideast. Both use revenues from petroleum sales.

Here are some background petroleum facts from EIA, the Energy Information Administration. Saudi Arabia produces 10+ million barrels of oil a day. Iran 4+ million barrels a day. The going price for crude oil is $80-90/bbl. About $300 billion a year in revenue for Saudi Arabia and $120 billion for Iran.

America imports about 12 million bbl/day and buys about 1.25 million bbl/day from the Saudis. We buy about 2 million bbl/day from Mideast Islamic nations. None from Iran. Our total imports are more than 30% of the worlds marketable production.

We can substantially defund the spread of Islamic Jihad. By managing our energy resources, aggressively, we are in a position to influence the world energy market and in time dominate it.

America’s oil consumption is about 20 million bbl/day. 70% for transportation (8 million bbl/day for gasoline, and 6 million bbl/day for diesel, aircraft jet fuel and other fuels.) Managing transportation fuels is the key to defunding Jihad and must be our highest priority.

But, we must begin by restoring our moral, financial and military positions of superiority. While others may not like it, they will respect our statement of power. We will again become reliable. This is most important in our dealing with Iran. Allowing them to possess nuclear weapons is completely unacceptable. We should be prepared to destroy their nuclear capabilities with whatever weapons we have in our arsenal. We have the power to prevent the shipment of any oil from Iran and cut off their oil revenues completely. They should understand we will use whatever force available, financial or military, to contain their nuclear ambitions and aggressive Jihad. Every nation should understand we are ready and able to protect ourselves and our interests.

We can defund the spread of Islamic Jihad with a comprehensive, integrated approach involving:

1. The parallel development of several alternative liquid fuel sources;
2. Replacing non gasoline transportation fuels using established safe, clean technologies that defeat obstructive environmentalism;
3. Changing from gasoline fueled transportation to electric and combination powered vehicles;
4. Following a long term, well defined program with specific petroleum usage targets at no longer than 5 year intervals and carbon footprint results that are substantially better than objectives of environmentalists.

Coal has the potential of yielding 3+ bbl of liquid fuel per short ton. Total U.S coal resources are estimated to be more than 4 trillion short tons, a potential yield of 12 trillion bbl. Immediately accessible coal would yield about 800 billion bbl, enough to produce 6 million bbl/day of diesel replacement fuel for more than 100 years. Oil shale has an estimated reserve of liquid fuel of 4 trillion bbl and extraction technology should be developed as rapidly as possible. Comparative costs should not be a major factor in its development.

CTL (Coal to Liquid) technology is well established with the gasification process. Using nuclear energy to provide the heat necessary in the process would make production of liquid fuel both clean and economical. There are more than 100 nuclear power plants now operating without problems here in America. Many have recently renewed licenses. Employing the technology used by these plants would reduce both costs and production times because designs are tested and proven to be safe and effective. These plants represent another exportable product. Other nations with coal reserves would welcome our helping them reduce petroleum imports by building and maintaining nuclear based gasification plants and it would also help defund Islamic Jihad even further. There are many byproducts, the most important of which is electricity. The planned use of electricity generated would be to power electric vehicles in urban areas. A current production model electric car has a range of 100 miles per 7 hour 220 watt charge. In time, improvement in battery and other technology could double or triple range per charge. It has been estimated that electricity generated at the nuclear gasification plants would power several million electric vehicles.

Other “wartime” fuel saving strategies such as personal conservation, carpooling, shuttle buses and the like would help reduce petroleum consumption and aid in the defunding of Islamic Jihad as well as the return of America as a world power. These strategies should also be built into the integrated comprehensive plan. Can we do it? Of course we can.
