The United States is under a mounting mountain of debt. Obviously those who kept right on spending kept shoving the IOUs under the pile of bills needing payment. Out of Sight; Out of Mind until We the People came to our senses and started raising all billy hell. Obama, Reid and Pelosi called us fascists, troublemakers and other pejoratives. We finally dumped her obnoxious botoxed body out of the speaker’s chair.

Did the 2010 election results tell them anything? Apparently not. They are under that age-old illusion, proved so false on so many occasions, “You can’t spend your way to prosperity.”

The saying was popular in the 1930s, during the Great Depression. Former President Herbert Hoover said in 1936: “One time I told a Democratic congress that you cannot spend your way to prosperity.” Presidential candidate Ronald Reagan said in 1976: “You cannot spend your way to prosperity. You cannot build prosperity by going into debt.” (http://www.barrypopik.com/index.php/new_york_city/entry/you_cant_spend_your_way_to_prosperity_you_cant_borrow_your_way_to_prosperit/)

We cannot allow nor can we authorize the Federal Reserve to print more monopoly money. We cannot afford to raise the debt ceiling and we sure cannot afford a spendthrift federal government. Sure, you postponed a pay raise for yourselves which you broadcast loud and clear. It is not enough.

There are over 300 million bodies in the United States; all have some money. Every single individual on the federal payroll, except military, is paid more than they are worth. We are all in this government-created cesspool together and must start crawling out now or drown.

I suggest that the problem began at the top; the solution must begin there. You folks did the most damage, therefore I insist you all pay the most beginning today. Each of you participates in either the CSRS or FERS, or work for the USPS to which we the people provide the money. For each of the next two years, reduce the monthly federal contribution by $100.00. Claim no deductions on your income tax returns for 2010 and 2011 and do not take the standard deduction. The President and Vice President shall have their annual salary reduced by one-half and expense accounts by a like amount in addition to the reduced contribution to retirement.

In addition to the foregoing, cause to be introduced legislation to reduce substantially the remuneration paid to ALL Federal employees, excluding members of the armed forces but including Civil Servants. Provide in the legislation means whereby all federal salaries, expenses and benefits are a referendum question on the ballot for every Quadrennial Presidential election. When these conditions are agreed to and posted on the Congressional Record not later than April 1, 2011, We the People, the offended ones, can be persuaded to forego $100 per person in the Standard deduction on the Income Tax return for 2010 or, in the case of those who fail to file, pay a one-time fine of $200 per person for the tax years 2010 & 2011 to be applied to debt reduction.

The latest information to which I have access indicates there are approximately 310 million residents of the United States, of which some 2 million are employed by the Federal government. By my calculations we would recover 34,800,000,000; that is 34 trillion, 800 billion dollars!

And, if that doesn’t at least begin to solve the problem, I am sure Paul Ryan can solve it.
