It’s official. Well, kind of.
There is a long form birth certificate for President Obama. Already, there is scrutiny over the authenticity of the document the White House released. And of course, The Donald has taken credit for getting Obama to cough up his birth certificate when years of lawsuits and billboards failed. Maybe the White House was considering the latest poll numbers that show only 38 percent were sure Obama was a natural born citizen of the United States.
No matter. Hopefully it’s done with now and we can move on to what Obama calls “better stuff”. Obama said at his birth certificate press conference on Wednesday “I’ve got better stuff to do … We’ve got big problems to solve, and I’m confident we can solve them, but we’re going to have to focus on them, not on this.”
He is right. We do have many more problems that need – no demand his attention and leadership.
Gasoline prices are over $4 a gallon in some parts of the United States and continue to rise almost daily. What is the president’s plan to reign in fuel prices before it really starts to take a toll on the pocketbooks of regular Americans – those middle class people who the White House seem so eager to help with words, but have been sorely short on actions. A few weeks ago, Obama told workers at a Pennsylvania plant that there wasn’t much he could do to lower prices. That may be true to a certain extent, but the policies of his administration have made it more difficult for oil companies to tap into the resources we have here in America.
Then there’s this little budget problem we are facing. Last year, nearly 95 percent of all the tax revenues collected by the government went to fund Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Welfare programs, and the interest on our national debt. The rest of the money to fund the government was borrowed, adding another $1 trillion to that debt, which by the way is close to the ceiling imposed by Congress.
And then there’s this skirmish in Libya that the president assured us on March 18th we would be involved in for “days, not weeks”. It doesn’t appear to be ending anytime soon. Yesterday Obama authorized a $25 million aid package for Libyan rebels for non-lethal items such as vehicles, fuel trucks, medical equipment and ambulances, plus protective vests and radios. Meanwhile, our strategy is still not clear and Russia and China have warned that the U.S. should not be pursuing the death of Ghadafi.
So what was the “better stuff” on the president’s agenda? After his “birther” press conference, he and first lady Michelle Obama boarded Air Force One to fly to Chicago to tape an episode of the TV show hosted by one of the president’s best-known supporters, Oprah Winfrey. It was then off to NYC for the jetsetter first couple for three Democratic Party fundraisers across midtown Manhattan, including an event at the home of financier and former New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine and a dinner at The Waldorf-Astoria hotel.
Meanwhile, the average price of a gallon of regular gasoline hit $3.92 in Columbus yesterday and our strategy in Libya remains unclear.
