Moammar Qaddafi and the Libyan government are attacked by armed rebels from within their own country attempting a violent takeover. Qaddafi responds accordingly, with armed troops, and retakes control of the areas seized by the armed rebels. In the process, a few thousand people are killed who are now deemed (at least by our media) to be “innocent civilians” (rather than armed rebels). We declare this to be unacceptable and begin bombing the daylights out of Qaddafi, his military and, most likely, some of his non-military and unarmed supporters, of which there appear to be many. All this is done in the name of humanitarianism and to protect our collective conscience, whatever that is. In and of itself, this is confusing on many levels.

Now let’s take Qaddafi and transplant him to Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Here he can murder fifteen thousand people a year (give or take), whether or not they have ever attacked him or anyone else, move freely (with impunity) across the U.S. border with untold quantities of drugs and guns (and bombs for all we know or care), and we will assist him in purchasing guns by the truckload and guarantee him safe passage back to Mexico with them. Oh, and we will feed, clothe, educate and provide medical care for any dependents he decides to leave behind while he is here. WHAT A DEAL!

Why is this confusing?

Well…if Qaddafi (who I will agree is the scum of the earth) was truly nothing more than a mass murderer who cared only about killing as many people as possible and a devoted terrorist bent on the destruction of the United States by any means possible, might he not have already packed his bags and moved to Ciudad Juarez?

Or, if we genuinely care about human rights atrocities, and we’re willing to bomb and shoot perpetrators, such as Qaddafi, shouldn’t we stop playing mere political games with it and start using bombs and bullets to end the atrocities along our own border? I mean, aren’t the drug lords, gun smugglers and human traffickers consistently killing more people than Qaddafi on his best day?

And, given the money spent and the supposed high level of governmental concern for our national security, shouldn’t we get serious about shutting down this freeway of arms and drug traffic? Isn’t it only a matter of time before some terrorists wise up and realize that the easiest way to get a dirty nuke into this country is to hide it in a shipment of crack cocaine coming in through Juarez? One big bang and we could all be poisoned with radiation, but too anesthetized to care.

I guess if anything is actually clear, and if there is anything to be thankful for, it is that, so far, those who would visit such wholesale destruction upon the American public are apparently no smarter than the single digit IQ Washington bureaucrats that we’re paying to stop them. However, if they ever get together with a bunch of average Mexicans, who appear to be infinitely smarter than either group, we can kiss our sorry butts goodbye.
