WaPo Shock Report: Sociopathic Criminals Try to Kill Cops!

By Mark Alexander

In the wake of my analysis this week of the sociopathic assailants in El Paso and Dayton and the Left’s predictable “gun control” theatrics (which ignore the root causes of sociopathic violence in America), another sociopath in Philadelphia shot six police officers on Thursday.

Recall that a few days before the Philadelphia attack, Demo presidential wannabe Elizabeth Warren, now trailing only Joe Biden among Democrat primary contenders, declared, “Michael Brown was murdered by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. … We must confront systemic racism and police violence head on.” The death of street thug Michael Brown wasn’t a murder, of course, but it was a Demo race-bait case study. And now, long after Barack Obama’s Department of Justice cleared the officer involved in a completely unnecessary investigation, Warren rewarms the “racist cop” smear.

Her recycling of that false narrative was immediately condemned by her home state’s Massachusetts Coalition of Police. According to the police union president, Scott Hovsepian, “Your labeling of law enforcement as racist and violent is unacceptable and dangerous.”

Unacceptable and dangerous indeed, which brings us to the case of the career criminal sociopath in Philadelphia. That assailant, a 36-year-old black man, started a shootout with police who’d attempted to execute a narcotics warrant. He has an 18-year criminal record — consisting of more than a dozen arrests resulting in six convictions for a wide range of charges including “illegal possession of guns, drug dealing, and aggravated assault” — and had already been in federal prison for firearms violations. Making matters worse, while Philadelphia police were attempting to resolve the deadly situation, they were pelted with rocks and bottles as the chaotic scene unfolded.

You’ve likely already been subjected to endless MSM churn about that siege, with little mention of the race or criminal history of the assailant, but you might have missed this “brilliant” Beltway Leftmedia analysis in The Washington Post. Under the headline, “Police officers keep getting shot by people with criminal records who are not allowed to own guns,” WaPo analyst James Hohmann outlined numerous attacks on police in recent years by violent sociopaths who were not allowed to have guns. Shocking, isn’t it? Turns out that violent criminals don’t obey the law.

Predictably, the Left took a temporary break from accusing cops (and ICE agents) of being racist fascists in order to join Demo Sen. Kamala Harris to politicize the Philadelphia shootout. The city’s mayor, Jim Kenney, joined in to spew this semi-literate nonsense: “This government, on the federal and state level, don’t want to do anything about getting these guns off the street and getting them out of the hands of criminals.”

So, what’s the WaPo and collective Democrat solution to this “gun problem”? Disarm law-abiding citizens who legally acquire firearms to protect themselves and others. What could go wrong?

Israel Bars Entry of Anti-Israel Reps. Omar and Tlaib

On Thursday, following a social-media comment from President Donald Trump in which he stated that “it would show great weakness if Israel allowed Rep. [Ilhan] Omar and Rep. [Rashida] Tlaib to visit,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in what some see as a nod to Trump, acted to ban the two Israel-hating congresswomen from entering the Jewish nation. Netanyahu explained, “As a vibrant and free democracy, Israel is open to any visitor and to any criticism, with one exception: The law in Israel forbids the entry of people calling for and acting to place a boycott on Israel, as is the norm in other democracies that prevent the entry of people whom they see as harming the country.”

The law Netanyahu referenced was passed by the Knesset in 2017, which bans the entry of foreigners into the country if they support the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement. Netanyahu noted that both Omar and Tlaib had made “clear that they were planning a campaign whose sole purpose was to strengthen the boycott and negate Israel’s legitimacy.” Essentially, what Omar and Tlaib were demanding was special treatment to engage in the overt breaking of Israel’s own laws.

Clearly, Omar and Tlaib’s objective was to paint Israel in a negative light regardless of whether they were allowed in. While barring them entry prevents the photo ops, they can now assert that Israel is attempting to hide its “oppressive conditions” and claim the martyr mantel to further their anti-Israel narrative. In a sense, Netanyahu was in a no-win situation, as criticism would come no matter what decision was made.

However, in a show of good faith, Israel on Friday granted Tlaib permission to enter the country on humanitarian grounds so she could go visit her 90-year-old grandmother living in the West Bank. But — surprise, surprise — Tlaib has rejected the offer, stating, “I have decided that visiting my grandmother under these oppressive conditions stands against everything I believe in — fighting against racism, oppression & injustice.” Evidently for Tlaib, promoting the Lefts’ fallacious anti-Semitic BDS narrative trumps all other concerns, including family.

TOP NEWS EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

GREENLAND ON ACQUISITION LIST? “President Trump made his name on the world’s most famous island. Now he wants to buy the world’s biggest. The idea of the U.S. purchasing Greenland has captured the former real-estate developer’s imagination, according to people familiar with the discussion, who said Mr. Trump has, with varying degrees of seriousness, repeatedly expressed interest in buying the ice-covered autonomous Danish territory between the North Atlantic and Arctic oceans. … U.S. officials view Greenland as important to American national-security interests.” (The Wall Street Journal)

POLITICAL WITHDRAWAL: “Allies to Joe Biden have been floating the idea of altering the former vice president’s schedule in an effort to reduce the gaffes he has made in recent days. The allies, growing increasingly nervous about Biden’s verbal flubs, have said it’s an approach that’s been suggested to campaign officials on the heels of the former vice president’s stumbles.” (The Hill)

BIG-LIE ENABLERS: “Even though a grand jury, multiple (predominantly black) eyewitnesses, and a federal investigation determined that police officer Darren Wilson acted lawfully when using lethal force against teenager Michael Brown during a physical altercation, the allegedly unbiased PolitiFact refused to give a Truth-o-Meter rating of ‘Mostly False’ or ‘Pants on Fire’ to Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Kamala Harris (D-CA) for claiming the teen was ‘murdered.’” (The Daily Wire)

GUN GRABBERS: “Democratic presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke called Thursday for a federal program that would confiscate assault-style weapons after a gunman with an AK-47 killed and injured dozens at a Walmart in his hometown of El Paso, Texas. … Two other Democratic presidential candidates, Senator Cory Booker and New York mayor Bill De Blasio, have also called for the government to confiscate assault-style weapons and compensate the owners as part of a mandatory program.” (National Review)

TAIWAN DEFENSE SALE: “The Trump administration is moving ahead with for an $8 billion sale of F-16 fighter jets to Taiwan despite strong objections from China, a U.S. official and others familiar with the deal said Thursday. … It would be the largest and most significant sale of weaponry to the self-governing island in years, and comes amid stalled trade talks and a deteriorating relationship with China.” (The Washington Post)

NOKO BOMBAST: “North Korea has rejected any further talks with South Korea, calling its decision ‘completely the fault of South Korea’s actions’. … Meanwhile, early on Friday North Korea test-fired two missiles into the sea off its eastern coast, the South Korean military said. It is the sixth such test in less than a month.” (BBC)

BORDER APPREHENSIONS DROP: “Customs and Border Protection Deputy Commissioner Robert Perez said Thursday that the drop in border apprehensions for a second straight month is proof that the deal with Mexico to stem the flow of migrants is working. … The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported a significant drop in apprehensions at the southwest border in June, after an agreement with the Mexican government. For the month of July, DHS reported more than 72,000 apprehensions, down from more than 132,000 in May.” (Fox News)

SEXUAL ABUSE: “An in-depth investigation into sexual abuse allegations at the Boys & Girls Club of America identified more than 250 victims ‘who say they were sexually abused as children at the hands of employees, volunteers and other members,’ according to a report at Greenwich Time conducted by Hearst Connecticut Media. The report indicates that some children were molested repeatedly, and others were molested ‘while isolated in situations like sleepovers or club trips.’” (The Daily Wire)

VILLAGE ACADEMIC CURRICULUM: “A paper currently being promoted by a New York university calls on society to consider the rampant ‘sexual exploitation’ of dairy cows by the milk industry in order to ‘fully fight gendered oppression.’ Specifically, the author compares cattle insemination to ‘rape’ and the milking of cows to ‘sexual abuse.’” (Campus Reform)

POLICY: Trump must not break his promises to gun-rights supporters (National Review)

POLICY: What European countries sacrifice for free college (National Review)

HUMOR: Women who don’t believe Israel has a right to exist not sure why they got banned from Israel (The Babylon Bee)

OPINION IN BRIEF

Tucker Carlson & Neil Patel: “Suicide rates for young Americans are the highest ever measured. So are drug-related deaths. Fifteen percent of millennials still live with their parents. Fifty years ago, more than 80% of American adults ages 25 to 34 were already married and living with a spouse. Today, less than half of adults in that age range are married. A huge portion of American young people aren’t in any kind of relationship at all. It’s no wonder millions of young people feel helpless, miserable and alone. They lack friends or parents or religious organizations to give their lives purpose and moral coherence. They live in a suffocating culture they feel no control over: Local identity and local institutions are the weakest they’ve ever been in this country. … In such an environment, a few people will lash out in violence. Millions of others will simply fade away, from suicide or overdose or diabetes. This is the real crisis, the one that produced those horrifying scenes on TV over the weekend. Washington is happy to pretend it isn’t happening. But it is. You can’t ignore it forever.”

SHORT CUTS

Food for thought: “How many of the people who ‘can’t afford’ to pay for their own birth control, which they claim is a basic health necessity, also have subscriptions to Netflix? I’d like to take a look at that graph.” —Matt Walsh

Friendly fire: “I just don’t think we should be rooting for a recession, because that’s not good for America.” —MSNBC’s Richard Stengel

Still inaccurate: “What matters was a man [Michael Brown] was shot, an unarmed man, in the middle of the street, by police officers and left to die. And I think that’s where our focus should be.” —Sen. Elizabeth Warren, whose recent “murdered by a white police officer” lie, along with Sen. Kamala Harris’s, was glossed over by PolitiFact

Demo-gogues: “We have a racism in American that is as old as America itself. … But we have always tried, until now, to change that, until this president.” —Beto O'Rourke

Annals of the absurd: “We must as a country buy [‘assault’] weapons [and] take them off the streets altogether.” —Beto O'Rourke

The BIG Lie: “It’s harder to get cold pills than an AR-15. Something needs to change.” —David Hogg

Never let a crisis go to waste: “Our officers need help. … They need help with gun control. They need help with keeping these weapons out of these people’s hands. This government, on the federal and state level, don’t want to do anything about getting these guns off the street and getting them out of the hands of criminals. … And if the state and federal government doesn’t want to stand up to the NRA and some other folks, then let us police ourselves.” —Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney (“On Kenney’s watch, Philadelphia has been plagued with gun violence. The homicide rate is the highest it has been in over a decade; in 2018, the rate increased 11 percent from the previous year. Kenney, and most other liberals advocating gun control, are ignoring the facts: The overwhelming majority of gun-related crimes are committed by people who own guns illegally. Crafting legislation that affects legal owners will have no impact on this.” —National Review’s Christopher Tremoglie)

Non Compos Mentis: “It is an affront that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, under pressure from President Trump, would deny entry to representatives of the U.S. government. Trump’s Muslim ban is what Israel is implementing, this time against two duly elected Members of Congress.” —Rep. Ilhan Omar

And last… “Israeli law forbids entry to any non-citizen who ‘knowingly issues a public call for boycotting Israel.’ What Omar and Tlaib (and their media cheerleaders and anti-Semitic supporters) were demanding was special treatment that violated Israeli’s own laws.” —Sean Davis
