A newly released Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll found that 56% of voters believe that American society is racist and discriminates specifically against black and Hispanic Americans. Furthermore, a whopping 71% of Americans “believe that race relations are either very or fairly bad, a 16-point increase since February.” The Journal reports that the belief that minorities are discriminated against in American society has doubled since 2008.
The polling also makes clear that political viewpoints represent the biggest indicator for how Americans see the issue. As the Journal reports, “An overwhelming majority of Democrats, 90%, said black people are discriminated against, whereas 26% of Republicans agreed. A similarly large share of Democrats, 82%, believe American society is racist, a view held by 30% of Republicans.” And regarding the Black Lives Matter movement, roughly half of Americans now view it positively, up from 38% in 2016.
The big question is whether this poll is an accurate reflection of where America is as a country, or whether it’s a reflection of the power of mainstream media pollaganda. The answer is likely evident to anyone objectively viewing the data: the power of MSM pollaganda. There is a constant media drumbeat telling us how awful the U.S. is, down to its very founding. People are subject to it every day not only in the news but in sports commentary, TV shows, and social media. It’s honestly amazing that 44% of Americans aren’t suckered into believing the Left’s narrative.
And make no mistake: Exposing and fighting against racism is not what is genuinely behind this “anti-racism” movement. Instead, Marxists have weaponized Americans’ strong and instinctive aversion to racism to deceive people into joining — or at least abiding — an anti-American revolution. The vast majority of Americans hate racism, so to get Americans to hate America, the Leftmedia paints the false narrative of the country as a bastion of racism down to its very core.
In fact, no country has done more to combat genuine systemic racism than has the U.S. Why? Because at our core, America is a nation uniquely founded upon the belief that every human being is created with dignity and endowed by our Creator with unalienable rights. And American history is the testimony of a nation seeking (by no means perfectly) to genuinely live up to these founding ideals.
Radical leftists know that in order to move Americans to abandon and reject their noble heritage and to embrace the “social justice” lie of Marxist equity, they must be deceived into believing they are fighting the good fight against evil “systemic racism,” and that by doing so they will be on the “right side of history.” Sadly, what this poll indicates is that the Leftmedia has had significant success getting Americans to believe the lie. But it also serves as a motivator to challenge and stand against this bogus racist caricature of America. Their aim is to divide and destroy. Don’t fall for it.
This just in: The Leftmedia is biased. Clearly that’s not news, but what is news is the recent decision by the Associated Press, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and other outlets to begin capitalizing the “B” in black when describing people. The “w” in white will remain lowercased, however, to make sure white folks remain properly chastised. “White privilege” indeed.
The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) says “white” should be capitalized as well, and Fox News, CNN, and others say they’ll do so. The white leftists at the AP, Times, and Journal, however, are too busy putting white people in their place to listen to fair-minded black people.
The AP made the change to “B” on Juneteenth but only yesterday announced that “W” would not follow. In reporting on its own decision, the AP noted, “The AP said white people in general have much less shared history and culture, and don’t have the experience of being discriminated against because of skin color.” So the AP is going to discriminate against white people in news coverage to teach them a lesson.
Indeed, John Daniszewski, the AP’s vice president for standards, was almost explicit in saying so: “We agree that white people’s skin color plays into systemic inequalities and injustices, and we want our journalism to robustly explore these problems. But capitalizing the term white, as is done by white supremacists, risks subtly conveying legitimacy to such beliefs.”
Evidently, Daniszewski and his fellow race-baiting cadres believe blacks are incapable of perpetrating inequality, injustice, or supremacy. To assign such sinful human behavior only to whites is, of course, racist. So is making skin pigmentation the defining characteristic these media outlets will highlight — as if all blacks have to think and behave in some uniform fashion, while whites are evidently free to think for themselves. Why can’t Americans be united in our national culture instead of being divided by skin color?
This is all part of the Marxist cultural revolution of identity politics that has swept the country in recent weeks. It includes rebranding food, renaming sports teams, and the redefinition of language itself.
On a final note, let me give you a taste of what this idiocy would look like in my own home. I have three white children and two black children, adopted from Africa. They are African Americans, if you really want to get technical, but that term is even falling out of favor as “Black” sweeps it away. Imagine if I followed these media outlets and not only showed my black kids favoritism but insisted that my white kids — especially that deplorable male one — were privileged, discriminating, and downright evil for being … white.
I’d be a horrible father, a deranged person, and a racist. Yet that sort of racism is exactly what passes for “enlightened” media coverage today. One might almost conclude that the Leftmedia truly is the enemy of the people.
By now you know them. Mark and Patricia McCloskey became famous overnight three weeks ago when they exercised their Second Amendment right to defend themselves and their property against a menacing St. Louis mob. And yet today, the mob is free and the McCloskeys are facing a Kafkaesque nightmare of legal fees and possible prison time.
As the Washington Examiner reports, the McCloskeys “were charged with one felony count of unlawful use of a weapon after they brandished their weapons on the front steps of their home when a group of protesters broke down their fence and trespassed into their private neighborhood. The charges, which were filed by St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner on Monday, carry a sentence of one to four years in prison and fines of up to $5,000.”
Let’s start with Kim Gardner. She’s a piece of work — a dimly lit legal mind who owes her very status to George Soros. “Gardner has been criticized by law enforcement for her decision not to charge rioters who were arrested during the George Floyd protests in June,” reports the Examiner. And, in keeping with the tenets of the Marxist view of social justice, “She declined to press charges against dozens who were arrested for assault, trespassing, vandalism, or unlawful use of a weapon.”
Indeed, the willfully derelict Gardner issued just two summons for the 36 arrests that took place in St. Louis that first week of June. No wonder “The Gateway to the West” has become such a hellhole of lawlessness.
“It’s a totally upside-down world,” lamented Mark McCloskey. “The people who broke into my neighborhood were all trespassing. The guy that recruited them, that planned this event, said the next day that he intended to break the law; that he needed to break laws in order to send his message. … The prosecutor, the circuit attorney, has apparently decided that her job as a prosecutor isn’t to keep us safe from the criminals, but to keep the criminals safe from us.”
Fortunately for the McCloskeys, Missouri is a red state, and their plight has attracted the attention of the state’s Republican governor, Mike Parson, and its attorney general, Eric Schmitt. “The right to keep and bear arms is given the highest level of protection in our constitution and our laws,” said Schmitt, “including the Castle Doctrine, which provides broad rights to Missourians who are protecting their property and lives from those who wish to do them harm. … As Missouri’s Chief law enforcement officer, I won’t stand by while Missouri law is being ignored.”
Gardner, the one doing the ignoring, is up for reelection. And Power Line’s Paul Mirengoff lays out not only what’s at stake in St. Louis but the future of law enforcement in urban centers across the nation: “The importance of this primary is highlighted by news that a George Soros-linked group has contributed $78,000 to Gardner’s campaign. This is part of Soros’ effort to undermine order in the U.S. by electing prosecutors who want to hamstring the police and go easy on criminals. His organization backed Gardner financially in 2016, and it’s doing so again this year.”
Mirengoff continues, “Gardner’s relatively brief tenure as St. Louis prosecutor has been a disaster for law and order. Prosecutors have left in droves. Gardner’s conviction rate in cases that go to trial is abysmal. And, not surprisingly, the homicide rate is soaring.”
Just imagine yourself in the McCloskeys’ shoes. But in a blue state. And if this is the reality for law-abiding Americans during a Donald Trump administration, just imagine what things will be like should the folks currently controlling Joe Biden come to power.
Every four years, we’re told that this next presidential election will be the most important in our nation’s history. From a Rule of Law perspective, those sounding the alarm may well be right.
Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden seems prepared to do whatever is necessary in his bid to continue the fundamental transformation of America begun by his former boss, Barack Obama. Upon winning the nomination, he quickly surrendered to the leftist wing that now controls the Democrat Party, throwing his support behind socialist policies that he was against only months ago.
One of those priorities is ending the Senate filibuster to clear the way for passing the Democrats’ desired policies. The filibuster is a Senate tool that gives the minority party the ability to block legislation by preventing a cloture vote to end debate. Democrats infamously used it in the 1950s and ‘60s to prevent passage of civil rights legislation. In recent years, Democrats suddenly found the filibuster to be problematic because Republicans used it to hamstring Obama’s agenda and judicial nominees. In the latter case, Democrats nuked it. Now they’re promising to get rid of it if they can win 50 seats and the White House.
It’s easy to see why the filibuster is the bane of presidents. Donald Trump has previously called for getting rid of it, though Majority Leader Mitch McConnell does not support the idea. He recognizes that Republicans won’t be in the majority forever and would come to regret dumping it. Biden, assuming that he will win and that Democrats will seize control of the Senate in November, believes his policies should not be held up by parliamentary procedure.
“I do think we’ve reached a point, a real inflection in American history. And I don’t believe it’s unlike what [Franklin] Roosevelt was met with,” Biden said, comparing himself to the former president who toyed with all sorts of unconstitutional methods while in office. “I think we have an opportunity to make some really systemic change.”
If Biden does win in November, and the Democrats take both the House and the Senate, the end of the filibuster is assured. Leftists won’t allow anything to stand in the way of their plans to turn America into a socialist country. How do they intend to make this a reality? There are several pieces of legislation that would sail through the Senate with a simple majority of Democrats in charge.
We can expect blanket amnesty for the 11-plus million illegal immigrants in the United States. Biden wants a “pathway to citizenship” for them, and like the amnesty that gave citizenship to three million illegals in the 1980s, it would send a signal that illegal immigrants are welcome in America and significantly boost their entry into the country, particularly if the border wall comes down, which is another Democrat promise for 2020.
We would see a restoration of taxpayer-funded abortions — well, the removal of the fig leaf that allows politicians to claim we don’t currently fund abortions. Secret ballots for unionization will also likely go away, allowing workplaces to unionize with a petition signed by a bare majority of employees. Democrats would also push for statehood for the District of Columbia, a staunchly leftist region that would be a reliable Democrat vote in perpetuity.
Chipping away at the Second Amendment is also assured through reinstatement of the ban on “assault weapons” and making gun manufacturers liable in deaths and injuries resulting from their products. Federal taxes will rise as Democrats aim to raise rates on high earners. So-called wealth taxes will stymy investment and savings, dealing a hard blow to an already fragile economy.
The government will also increase its role in healthcare, pushing a public option that could crush the private insurance industry. Democrats would likely follow Bernie Sanders’s lead and go all in on Medicare for All. We will also see a version of the Green New Deal become a reality — a multitrillion-dollar boondoggle that will do nothing to improve the environment and give government more control of the private sector.
In the past, Biden has not been for all these items on the leftist agenda. He did not support taxpayer-funded abortion, and he opposed Medicare for All. But Biden wants to be president, and he will do pretty much whatever the radical Left wants in order to gain support. Never one of the brightest bulbs in politics, Biden’s questionable cognitive faculties of late will make controlling him an easy task for the Left. That’s why Biden winning the 2020 election will be detrimental to the country, and giving him a Senate majority will be nothing short of a disaster for America.
We take no pleasure in printing that headline. But it has to be done. And we suspect the overwhelming number of good people at the FBI are relieved and even grateful for it.
What we now know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, is that the FBI knew by January 2017 that Christopher Steele’s Hillary Clinton-financed “dossier,” its primary piece of evidence for securing FISA warrants with which to spy on a major party candidate for president of the United States, was total rubbish. And yet the FBI continued to use this manufactured piece of political pablum as a means to continue spying on Donald Trump and his presidential campaign — even after Trump took office.
Let that sink in.
As Friday’s article from The Wall Street Journal’s editorial board puts it, “The Justice Department’s release of documents from the Obama Administration’s 2016-17 Trump-Russia investigation is beginning to paint a picture, and the more we learn the worse the FBI looks.”
The title of the WSJ editorial is “The FBI’s Dossier Deceit,” and that’s exactly — though not exclusively — what it was. Just five years ago, it would’ve been near impossible to name a federal government organization with a better brand name, a more sterling reputation, than that of the FBI. The U.S. military? Maybe.
Today, however, the bureau’s reputation is in tatters, thanks to the actions of a lawless few Trump-haters whose names have become household bywords: Comey, McCabe, Strzok, Page. (To that disgraceful group we should add a name that’s less well-known — that of FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith, who’s somehow flown under the radar despite having intentionally altered evidence that was exculpatory toward Trump campaign associate Carter Page.)
Credit for the declassification and release of the FBI notes goes to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham, who said last week, “The dossier was a critical document to justify a FISA warrant against Mr. Page and this DOJ memo clearly indicates that the reliability of the dossier was completely destroyed after the interview with the primary sub-source in January 2017.”
Graham continued, “Most importantly after this interview of the sub-source and the subsequent memo detailing the contents of the interview, it was a miscarriage of justice for the FBI and the Department of Justice to continue to seek a FISA warrant against Carter Page in April and June of 2017.”
Got that? Graham is a lawyer himself, and he doesn’t lightly throw around terms like “miscarriage of justice.” And yet here he’s using it to describe the actions of Barack Obama’s Department of Justice.
The FBI notes also put the lie to a much-ballyhooed New York Times story claiming that the Trump campaign had colluded with the Russians. “The comments of Peter Strzok regarding the February 14 New York Times article,” said Graham, “are devastating in that they are an admission that there was no reliable evidence that anyone from the Trump Campaign was working with Russian Intelligence Agencies in any form.”
As the Journal sums things up, “Democrats and the press corps that touted the phony Steele dossier will say this is a pursuit of a conspiracy theory, but it’s not a theory. The more evidence that is made public, the clearer it becomes that the Steele dossier and collusion narrative were dirty political tricks that became abuses of power.”
Will justice ever be served? And without justice, will the FBI ever be able to rebuild its reputation? U.S. Attorney John Durham is doggedly building his case, but the clock is ticking — perhaps toward a Democrat administration that would love nothing more than to dismiss this matter entirely.
Fidelity, bravery, integrity. Those three words, the FBI’s motto, are written on a white ribbon that stretches across the bottom of the bureau’s iconic logo — a logo that was designed in 1940 by Special Agent Leo Gauthier.
How different the meaning of those words must be to the overwhelming majority of FBI personnel, whose commitment to their motto never wavered, from what it is to those contemptible few on the 7th floor of the J. Edgar Hoover Building who dishonored their bureau and their motto in the lawless pursuit of our nation’s 45th president.
While much of the media was focused on the toppling of statues and the latest case count of the Wuhan coronavirus, a fire was raging through the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), an 840-foot amphibious assault ship. It took five days to put out the fire, so the ship’s going to be out of action for a while. There’s even talk that she may be retired.
Retirement would be a big mistake, though. Throughout our nation’s history, U.S. Navy ships have taken a licking and returned to service. In some cases, the ships had very close calls. But the need to get the Bonhomme Richard back into service is also best answered when we consider both how long it took to build her and how long it could take to build the latest amphibious assault ship.
The Bonhomme Richard was ordered in December 1992, the sixth Wasp-class amphibious assault ship. She was commissioned in August 1998. That’s nearly six years — quite a long time to get her into the fleet.
Newer ships take even longer. It took six years to build USS Tripoli (LHA 7), the latest America-class amphibious assault ship, from laying down the keel in 2014 to her commissioning last week. But the Tripoli was actually ordered in 2012, so the entire process was actually eight years.
Our amphibious assault ships are major assets for the U.S. military. These ships can carry aircraft, but their primary mission has been to serve as the centerpiece of Marine Expeditionary Units. A MEU includes a reinforced battalion of Marines, the bulk of whom are on a ship like the Bonhomme Richard.
In addition, the Bonhomme Richard carries a variety of fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft, as well as the pilots, maintainers, and support personnel for the planes. The Wasp-class ships also carry three air-cushion landing craft, highly versatile transports that can bring troops and vehicles ashore from the ship. In a pinch, the ship can also serve as a light carrier, with 20 F-35B Lightning or AV-8B Harrier V/STOL multi-role aircraft, along with MH-60 Seahawk helicopters.
Our amphibious assault ships aren’t as large or powerful as aircraft carriers, but they’re very versatile. Losing the Bonhomme Richard for good would thus be a long-term blow — and even her lengthy repair time will affect the Pacific Fleet. Why? Because it’s one of only eight Wasp-class amphibious assault ships in addition to the Navy’s two America-class vessels.
Just as the Navy prematurely retired and then scrapped old carriers, it has permanently disposed of two of its older Tarawa-class amphibious assault ships — one was sunk as a target, while the other one was scrapped. Three others remain in reserve.
Those ships should be brought out of reserve, if only to help fill in while the Bonhomme Richard is repaired. Then, the Navy would do well to consider building more of these ships — as well as the carriers, escorts, and auxiliary ships needed to support them.
