‘Trouble’: Shock Texas poll puts Biden four points ahead of Trump

Joe Biden is beating President Trump in Texas.

The former vice president is leading Trump 48-44 in Texas, according to Quinnipiac University polling data released Wednesday. The difference falls into the poll’s margin of error, but Biden’s apparent edge in the conservative state is troubling news for Trump’s 2020 reelection effort.

Quinnipiac conducted the poll from May 29 to June 4 and surveyed 1,159 Texas voters. Each presidential candidate’s results have a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points.

“The numbers are good for Vice President Joseph Biden who dominates the field in a Democratic primary and has the best showing in a head-to-head match-up against President Donald Trump,” Quinnipiac University Poll assistant director Peter Brown said.

“In historically red-leaning Texas, the report for the rest of the Democratic field is not so bad either, which could spell trouble for President Trump. It is the largest state in the country with a Republican edge,” Brown added. “The president, who is on the wrong side of a too-close-to-call match-up with Biden, barely inches up in similar match-ups with all the other Democrats.”

The poll showed Trump ahead of other Democrats in the field, but the margins are slim. Trump is beating Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, former U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke, South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, California Sen. Kamala Harris, and former San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro by anywhere from 1 to 4 points.
