Trump appeals ruling requiring his accounting firm to comply with House Democrats’ subpoena

President Trump has appealed a ruling requiring his accounting firm to hand over his financial documents to House Democrats.

Trump’s lawyers filed an appeal Tuesday in a continued attempt to block the congressional subpoena of Mazars USA, which a federal judge for the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia said could move forward on Monday. The judge ordered Mazars to comply with the subpoena within seven days of his ruling, and denied Trump and his lawyers a request to stay the subpoena pending an appeal.

In a brief, two-page filing, Trump’s lawyers appealed “all aspects” of the lower court’s order to the D.C. Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals

It’s unclear whether the court of appeals may expedite Trump’s appeal to block the subpoena, or grant an initial stay to hear the case before Mazars must comply with the subpoena.

In a statement to the Washington Examiner, the firm declined to comment on the specifics of the case, but a spokesperson said that, “Mazars USA will respect the legal process and fully comply with its legal obligations.”
