5 shot in Philadelphia on same street as police shootout

Multiple people were shot in Philadelphia just a couple miles away from the shootout that wounded six police officers Wednesday.

Police said that four men and a teenage boy were injured Thursday in a shooting on the same street, but two miles away in the city’s Ogontz section, as Wednesday’s mass shooting in the Nicetown-Tioga neighborhood. The five victims were sent to the local hospital, four with nonfatal injuries and one in critical condition.

Police Commissioner Richard Ross said the shooting was likely gang-related.

“There was some chairs up about a block-and-a-half, leading us to believe the individuals, the victims, were probably seated when they were targeted,” Ross said.

Detectives have opened an investigation into the cause of the shooting, but no arrests have been made.

Six Philadelphia police officers were shot Wednesday in a seven-hour standoff with the alleged gunman, 36-year-old Maurice Hill.
