President Trump warned U.S. citizens that the battle against the coronavirus is going to get tougher before it gets easier.
Trump gave a press briefing on the ongoing fight against the pandemic on Sunday evening, saying that a “peak” in COVID-19 virus cases was nearing. The president also said that 1.67 million people across the United States have been tested for the disease, more in absolute terms than any other nation.
“In the days ahead, America will endure the peak of this terrible pandemic. Our warriors in this life and death battle and the incredible doctors and nurses and healthcare workers on the frontline of the fight. We pledge to them our eternal gratitude and everlasting support,” Trump said.
The U.S. has recorded roughly 336,000 cases of the coronavirus and 9,600 deaths from the disease. New York is the epicenter of the pandemic in the United States, containing about a third of the cases and nearly half of the deaths.
“We see light at the end of the tunnel. Things are happening. Things are happening. We’re starting to see light at the end of the tunnel,” Trump said.
