Don't Impeach Obama Because We Didn't Impeach Bush. Except We Tried.
Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) took leave of her senses and her memory on the House floor. Arguing against Republicans’ effort to sue the president for usurping Congress and failing to faithfully execute the law, she said, “I ask my colleagues to oppose this resolution for it is in fact a veiled attempt at impeachment and it undermines the law that allows a president to do his job.” Again, they’re suing because Obama is undermining the law. But Jackson Lee wasn’t done. She lectured, “A historical fact: President Bush pushed this nation into a war that had little to do with apprehending terrorists. We did not seek an impeachment of President Bush, because as an executive, he had his authority. President Obama has the authority.” Um, historical fact: Jackson Lee co-sponsored H.Res.1258, which aimed to impeach George W. Bush. Oops.
