The Patriot Post® · Leftist Violence
The shooting at Saturday’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner at the Washington Hilton was at least the fifth known attempt to kill President Trump since 2016 and the third in the past 21 months. Of course, these are not the only acts of violence committed by unhinged leftists, which have multiple sources of motivation.
There is violence by Marxists and socialists, by haters of Judeo-Christian civilization, by transgender lunatics, by radical Islamists and by members of the radicalized base of the Democrat Party. Some of these motivations overlap.
But they account for the vast majority of the political violence in America—from attacks on synagogues and Christian schools to the assassination of corporate CEOs and ambushes against law enforcement officers.
When violent leftist attacks occur, there is a powerful infrastructure that will cover for them, make excuses for them and blame them on “mental illness” or even Donald Trump.
We have had a mental health problem in America for decades. The percentage of young women on medication for anxiety and depression has skyrocketed. There have always been people with mental illness. Maybe there are more now than in the past.
When Barack Obama was president, someone fired shots at the White House, and there was no serious attempt on Joe Biden’s life.
I was infuriated over the weekend and yesterday by the number of commentators on Fox News who said, “The violent rhetoric on both sides has got to stop.” There is no “both sides.” Period. The vast majority of political violence is coming from one side—the Left. Saying “both sides” makes it impossible to deal with the growing problem of left-wing violence.
The Wannabe Assassin
I am concerned that wannabe assassin Cole Allen will not be found guilty of any serious charges. He did not take a shot at the president or any cabinet official because he was stopped in time and never made it into the ballroom.
The charges against Allen have to be brought in the District of Columbia. There have been multiple apparent ironclad cases filed by the Trump administration in the District of Columbia that could not get an indictment, let alone a convicting jury.
That’s what passes for “justice” in a jurisdiction where Kamala Harris won 93% of the vote in the 2024 presidential election.
Left-wing Hate
Many conservatives were very nervous about this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Before the event, various left-wing groups had issued statements demanding that the reporters attending the dinner disrupt it and not allow “the Nazi” and “Hitler-wannabe” Donald Trump to speak.
Radical demonstrators with the far-left group, Code Pink, were there, protesting what they called the “White House / War Crimes Correspondents’ Dinner” and demanding the arrest of Secretary of War Pete Hegseth. As a reminder, the co-founder of Code Pink is married to Neville Singham, the billionaire tool of Communist China who wants to bring America down.
Leftist haters were all over the streets outside the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. People going into the hotel crossed in front of one demonstrator with a sign that read, “Death To All Of Them.”
One attendee said that after she left the hotel, she walked past three teenage girls outside the event. One of them said, “Damn, he missed,” referring to the assassin and President Trump. The other girls laughed.
Social media was full of people posting messages that broke down into two different themes. One theme was that this latest assassination attempt was a “staged hoax” to boost Trump’s approval ratings. The other theme came from people who were upset that Trump survived and asked, “Why can’t we find someone who knows how to fire a gun?”
Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA) posted, “Please stop trying to murder the president.” She was swamped with an avalanche of hateful responses from unhinged leftists who want President Trump dead.
Once again, Senator John Fetterman, who was at the dinner, was the voice of reason in the Democrat Party. He wrote, “After witnessing last night, drop the TDS [Trump Derangement Syndrome] and build the White House ballroom for events exactly like these.”
There’s considerable irony here, too. Many of the “journalists” at the dinner had written glowing articles about the “defund the police” movement. But they sure were glad there were plenty of Washington, D.C., police officers and Secret Service agents on hand Saturday night.
By the way, the Secret Service is part of the Department of Homeland Security, which Democrats have refused to fully fund for 73 days now.
O'Donnell vs. Trump
CBS News senior correspondent Norah O'Donnell interviewed President Trump on Sunday for a segment on “60 Minutes.” Of course, the attempted assassination at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner the night before was the focus of the interview.
When the interview turned toward the attempted assassin, O'Donnell read part of his manifesto to the president. And, of course, she read the worst part where he accuses the president of being a “pedophile,” a “rapist” and a “traitor.”
Not even 24 hours after a deranged left-wing lunatic tried to kill the president, Norah O'Donnell is doing the Left’s dirty work, smearing President Trump with outrageous charges that fuel the atmosphere of violence.
The president didn’t pull his punches. He blasted O'Donnell, calling her “disgraceful” for repeating the lies of a sick individual.
Standing Tall
President Trump reacted Saturday evening in much the same way as he did at Butler, Pennsylvania. Secret Service agents at the Butler rally pushed him down on the stage to protect him. But Trump fought to get back up on his feet to reassure people there and those watching at home that he was fine. He then yelled the famous line, “Fight! Fight! Fight!”
Amid the chaos of people hiding under tables and the Secret Service agents with their weapons drawn, President Trump was calm and in charge. He didn’t want the White House Correspondents’ Dinner to be canceled Saturday night. He wanted the “show to go on.”
When asked about the fact this was the third attempt on his life since the Butler rally, Trump replied that the danger comes with the job and he wasn’t going to live in fear. He also noted that consequential presidents who accomplished a lot were the ones most often targeted by their violent opponents. “They don’t go after the ones who don’t do much,” Trump said. He’s right.
Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by a Southern sympathizer furious that he freed the slaves. We’re still debating what motivated Lee Harvey Oswald, but there was no doubt that John F. Kennedy was on his way to become a historic president.
While John Hinckley, Jr., thought killing Ronald Reagan would impress a movie star, the Left in America hated Reagan. When the news broke that Reagan had been shot outside the Washington Hilton and may have died, some classrooms in urban America erupted in applause.
Watching videos from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, I was encouraged by the number of men who could be seen protecting their wives and girlfriends. It reminded me of Corey Comperatore, who did not hesitate to use his own body as a shield to protect his wife and daughter at the Butler, Pennsylvania, rally.
