The Patriot Post® · Fauci Is a Symptom of Our Feckless Politicians
In the aftermath of the economic and social suicide committed by American politicians during the COVID-19 pandemic, no greater villain emerged than Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases from 1984 and 2022, “Chief Medical Advisor” for President Joe Biden from 2021 to 2022 and primary representative of “the science” as the country face-planted its way through several years of insanity.
This week, the good ol’ doctor is back in the news after damning excerpts of his diary — seriously, why do narcissistic sociopaths insist on chronicling their evil? — were released by the immovable Kentucky thorn in Fauci’s side, Sen. Rand Paul.
One of the worst excerpts that has been reported on so far was his rejection of the notion that COVID-19 had emerged from a Chinese wet market, writing that “Now we know the market was not the source,” but the “amplifier.” At the time, Fauci was practically spitting in the face of anyone who dared suggest that COVID-19 had been leaked from a Chinese lab in Wuhan that just happened to be researching coronaviruses.
Then there’s the continuation of gaslighting from the king of gaslighting himself, as Fauci boasted of convincing New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio to close city schools, bars, and restaurants, and that he had similar conversations with California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s chief of staff.
And of course, it wouldn’t be Fauci without a dollop of narcissism, such as describing himself as “the most famous and talked about person in the country and the most recognizable person in the world.”
Step aside, Beyonce. Anthony Fauci is in town.
But whenever Fauci reemerges in the public consciousness, it’s crucial to look deeper at a problem that goes beyond why Fauci alone should be viewed as one of the greatest villains of the 21st century.
It’s not just that he abused “the science” to such an extent that he destroyed public trust in objective medicine for a generation. It’s not just that he behaved like a B-list celebrity who finally made it onto the A-list pages of gossip magazines after releasing a particularly graphic sex tape. It’s not just that he was demonstrably terrible at his well-paid government job, whether it be flip-flopping on COVID-19 measures or wasting hundreds of millions of dollars on contract tracing or kneecapping the fight against HIV/AIDS.
No, Fauci is the greatest villain of the 21st century because he is also the perfect personification of the fecklessness of our elected officials, who happily handed over all decision-making to a political scientist, destroying countless lives and livelihoods in the process.
Don’t get me wrong, Fauci is a terrible human being, but he is a terrible human being who was embraced by the people we elected to represent us. If they had actually focused on their job, taken responsibility and measured COVID-19 policies against all other concerns — beyond trying to solve the problem of human mortality — we might not even know Fauci’s name.
And what worries me most is that I don’t think a single one of them even regrets it.
