Despite a GOP wipeout of Democrats last Tuesday, illegal immigration remains the 800-pound gorilla, due to our Narcissist-in-Chief’s contemptible effort to remain in absolute control.

And make no mistake: despite every attempt by Democrats and their media allies to convince America otherwise, Democrats had their collective heads handed to them. Not because the GOP is great, not by a long shot, but because Democrats who ran on racism and sexism – because they couldn’t run on anything else – finally overplayed that tiresome, and possibly anachronistic, hand.

Yet regardless of a message that would be clear to anyone else, Barack Obama is determined to legalize millions of illegal aliens and precipitate a Constitutional crisis. The legalization element is part of his quest to create a permanent Democrat majority. The Constitutional crisis element is an utterly cynical effort to bait the GOP into initiating impeachment proceedings he believes will galvanize minorities against Republicans.

In other words, it’s divide and conquer all over again.

The bet here is he has miscalculated on two fronts. First, Republicans don’t have to initiate impeachment proceedings. They have the power of the purse in the GOP-controlled House, and the GOP-controlled Senate will likely endorse all efforts to defund the president’s agenda. And while that may not prove entirely successful, accompanying that failure to fund with a message to the nation that Americans come first, especially black Americans who will be hit hardest by the legalization of millions competing for the same jobs, will undoubtedly resonate.

So too will a 2016 GOP presidential campaign in which every candidate promises to eviscerate Obama’s lawless effort to fundamentally transform the character of the nation.

Yet this dual attack will only resonate if the GOP isn’t figuring out a way of their own to embrace so-called comprehensive immigration reform. We know the American left is bankrupt. Only a bankrupt ideology would attempt to conflate the terms “illegal alien” and “undocumented immigrant.” We know the same Justice Department that sued Arizona for having the "emerity" to defend its borders turns a blind eye to illegal-harboring “sanctuary cities” in clear defiance of immigration law. We know the effort to provide illegals with drivers’ licenses, bank accounts, in-state college tuition, etc., etc., proceeds apace. And we know the border remains a sieve, not by accident but by design, and that the overwhelming majority of illegal aliens streaming across it with impunity will never be held to account. That’s because immigration courts are overwhelmed, and despite all rhetoric to the contrary, the administration couldn’t care less if it takes two years to get a hearing, much less an order for deportation. And that’s when illegals show up at all – which isn’t happening in 70 percent of cases.

Nonetheless, even some conservatives remain enamored with the idea that a “grand bargain” is an absolute necessity. Their hypocrisy is gargantuan. You can’t be pro-Constitution and favor the rule of law on one hand, even as you’re willing to accommodate an unprecedented cave-in to expediency for millions of law-breakers on the other. Putting millions of people who don’t belong here on a “pathway to citizenship” may seem noble, but that’s only because the effort to frame it as the ultimate capitulation it truly is has been battered harder than Sarah Palin’s family.

In short, if you think America ought to belong to Americans, you’re a nativist, xenophobic bigot with no compassion for people “living in the shadows.”

Baloney. I’m all for people living the shadows. American people, especially minorities, living on the margins of a society where every Democrat and half of the Republican Party have rendered them reliably expendable, courtesy of all Democrats who assume their vote for that party is automatic, or irrelevant, courtesy of some Republicans who prefer catering to the cheap labor crowd at the Chamber of Commerce or in Silicon Valley.

Both motivations should be seen for exactly what they are: a sellout of Americans and a complete mockery of legal immigrants who have taken the time and the effort to emigrate to America the right way.

You don’t hear much about that latter group because they are problematic for the expediency crowd and their vociferous enablers. The ones who have the unmitigated gall to demand that we accommodate them.

Been there, done that. In 1986 we granted 2.7 million illegal aliens unambiguous amnesty in exchange for a crackdown on businesses who hire illegals and sealing the border. For the last 28 years the utter falsehood of those promises has been unmistakably exposed, alternately broken by both political parties. And it is no coincidence those broken promises precipitated an invasion of an additional 11 million illegals if you believe the media hype, or perhaps twice or three times that number, if you suspect the mainstream media are “all in” with the open borders crowd.

That would be the same media determined to convince us the same anti-illegal immigration public who "shut down the Capitol switchboard" in 2007 before the vote on comprehensive immigration, “overwhelming the message from a small klatch of immigrant-rights demonstrators urging passage outside the Capitol,” has miraculously changed its mind.

They haven’t, and no number of misleading surveys showing they have makes any difference. Misleading because they conveniently dismiss the host of critical demands that must be met before Americans offer their support for anything resembling reform, most notably the aforementioned demands regarding the border and business crackdown that accompanied the 1986 giveaway. The bet here is most Americans know a con job when they see one, and the notion that this time will be different stinks worse than yesterday’s fish.

Maybe the only thing stinkier is the straw man argument advanced on both sides of the political divide that “mass deportation” is impossible. My favorite comment on the subject comes courtesy of Beltway barker George Will, who contended such an effort “would require a line of buses bumper-to-bumper extending from San Diego to Alaska.”

No one is seriously advocating mass deportation, George. On the other hand, creating a climate of law enforcement making it impossible for illegals to maintain a viable existence in this nation would make self-deportation – no matter how long it takes – a realistic alternative.

Which is exactly why there is a concerted effort to demonize anything that smacks of maintaining our national sovereignty.

Nothing has changed since 2007, except for the increased level of accommodation for illegals, highlighted by the president’s unilateral decision to grant indefinite amnesty to children brought here by their border-busting parents. Even the name of the act, “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals,” is a calculated lie, because the two year period in which they’re allowed to remain in the United States can be renewed. As Immigrationrefrom.com puts it, this means the amount of time hundreds of thousands of illegals can remain here without ramifications is “indefinitely temporary.” And whether Americans know it or not, the open borders crowd would like to expand the program to cover even more illegals.

Which brings me to my next point. Longevity is another straw man used to batter the public. We’re supposed to be more sympathetic to those who have managed to evade detection the longest and “built a life” in America that we can’t possibly take away. Sounds humane until you put it a different way – as in a decades-long conspiracy by the ruling class to avoid enforcing the laws as written, one the public is now forced to accept lest we be excoriated for our “heartlessness.”

Sorry, no sale. My “heart” belongs to my fellow Americans, especially the middle and lower classes. The former group has seen their wages decline during our so-called recovery, and the last thing the latter group needs is millions of low-skill, low-educated workers competing for the same jobs.

Yet if this issue has to be reduced to cynical partisan politics here’s a hint: there’s a huge groundswell of public support waiting to be captured by the first party or individual politician willing to cut through the b.s and say enough is enough, we’re a nation of laws, not men, and if immigrants want to come to America we’ll welcome them with opens arms – as long as they do it legally. Everything else is extortion, courtesy of those with an agenda utterly inimical to the best interests of America. Millions of us are fed up with the contemptible effort to frame it as a failing on our part if we don’t countenance the wholesale transformation of America into a de facto warehouse run solely for the benefits of our transnational, wannabe rulers and their despicable, power-hungry allies.

Take that message right past the media, right past the elites, right past the activists, directly to the people. Despite everything you hear from the chattering classes and their accomplices, “America: for Americans” is a stone-cold winner.
