A Week’s Worth of Progressive Insanity

As is my inclination, I am more than happy to mock progressive ideology for its utterly distorted view of human nature, its overarching hypocrisy and its intellectual bankruptcy. That being said, three stories from last week are so off the charts they make you wonder if radio talk show host Michael Savage’s assertion that liberalism is a mental disorder is accurate. Personally, I think it’s an insult to people with such disorders because one can feel a measure of sympathy for people struggling with life’s vicissitudes. Liberals/progressives? Not so much. Let’s begin with our leftist comrades eating their own. In Hollywood, better known as progressivism’s Ground Zero, accusations of racism are flying hot and heavy, because all of the Oscar nominees in the acting categories are of the Caucasian persuasion. Hence the race hustlers are out in force, buoyed by the Sony Pictures hack during which it was revealed co-chairman Amy Pascal and producer Scott Rudin exchanged racially “insensitive” emails. Emails that precipitated a visit from America’s foremost racial arsonist, aka Al Sharpton, who never lets the opportunity to precipitate a shakedown go to waste. A subsequent meeting between Sharpton and Pascal led to the formation of a working group that gives Sharpton input into how Sony makes motion pictures, to combat what Sharpton characterized as an “inflexible and immovable racial exclusion in Hollywood.”

Hence the race hustlers are out in force, buoyed by the Sony Pictures hack during which it was revealed co-chairman Amy Pascal and producer Scott Rudin exchanged racially "insensitive" emails. Emails that precipitated a visit from America’s foremost racial arsonist, a.k.a. Al Sharpton, who never lets the opportunity to precipitate a shakedown go to waste. A subsequent meeting between Sharpton and Pascal led to the formation of a working group that gives Sharpton input into how Sony makes motion pictures, to combat what Sharpton characterized as an “inflexible and immovable racial exclusion in Hollywood.”

“We have agreed to having a working group deal with the racial bias and lack of diversity in Hollywood,” the newly minted movie-maker added.

Thus, the Oscar vote was tailor made for the race-baiting Reverend, and he wasted no time exploiting it. “The movie industry is like the Rocky Mountains, the higher you get, the whiter it gets,” he contended in a statement released last Friday.

But wait, it gets better. “I have called an emergency meeting early next week in Hollywood with the task force to discuss possible action around the Academy Awards,” he said.

Go for it, Al. And the bigger and more outrageous, the better. This is one American who will thoroughly enjoy watching a gaggle of over-paid, self-aggrandizing, ego-maniacs, who have long believed they owned the franchise on “enlightened” thinking about race – on the receiving end of the same hustle they’ve applauded for years – when it’s foisted on everybody else.

Oh, and by the way, in the racialist cauldron Hollywood has now officially become, “12 Years a Slave” won the Oscar for the Best Picture in 2014, and Mexican-Keyan actress Lupita Nyong'o snagged the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Obviously not good enough, but not to worry: I have no doubt a working committee and a possible demonstration will ensure Academy voters get their “ minds right” in time for next year’s vote.

Next up, perhaps the most ridiculous, Kumbaya-esque moment in American diplomatic history. Our inimitable Secretary of State John Kerry, eager to make amends for the Obama administration’s snub of the Paris solidarity march Jan. 11 following the murders of 17 Parisians, offered the survivors, family members and first responders involved in the atrocity a “big hug.”

Once again, it gets better. Kerry one-upped the huggable moment by bringing out songster James Taylor of 70s fame – who proceeded to push the mush-meter to the max, singing his hit, “You’ve Got a Friend.” Perhaps the most lasting impression that arises from this feel-good fiasco is the knowledge that such a moment is rare: you don’t often get a useful idiot exploiting another useful idiot to promote what is arguably an unprecedented level of useful idiocy. But as the song goes, “Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call and I’ll be there…” four days late.

Best reaction? A tweet by David Burge @iowahawkblog. “I think Senator Blutarsky speaks for all of us,” he wrote, referring to the scene in the movie “Animal House” where the late John Belushi smashes the guitar of a folk singer. The bet here is the American public would opt for Secretary of State Blutarsky in lieu of our current surrenderist in a New York minute, if such an option were available.

We now move on to last week’s most over-the-top manifestation of progressive insanity, courtesy of Mount Holyoke College. The all-woman’s school in Massachusetts has cancelled plans to host its annual performance of “The Vagina Monologues” this year – because the production is not inclusive of transgender students.

In a school-wide email from the Theatre Board, a representative from the group, Erin Murphy, explains the rationale behind the move. “At its core, the show offers an extremely narrow perspective on what it means to be a woman… Gender is a wide and varied experience, one that cannot simply be reduced to biological or anatomical distinctions, and many of us who have participated in the show have grown increasingly uncomfortable presenting material that is inherently reductionist and exclusive,” she explained in an email obtained by Campus Reform.

The move coincides rather neatly with the school’s new admission policy initiated last year. “Mount Holyoke College welcomes applications for our undergraduate program from any qualified student who is female or identifies as a woman,” the new admission policy states.

And yet again, it gets better. In the Q&A section the school “clarifies” their definition of woman. Take a deep breath and read on:

  • Biologically born female; identifies as a woman

  • Biologically born female; identifies as a man

  • Biologically born female; identifies as other/they/ze (NB: “ze” is a gender-neutral pronoun)

  • Biologically born female; does not identify as either woman or man

  • Biologically born male; identifies as woman

  • Biologically born male; identifies as other/they/ze and when “other/they” identity includes woman

  • Biologically born with both male and female anatomy (Intersex); identifies as a woman

So who does that leave out? “Biologically born male; identifies as man."

Eighty-sixing "The Vagina Monologues" rankles self-identified "woman with a vagina” and Daily Beast columnist Lizzie Crocker, who “cannot get behind the idea that a celebratory play – one that (author Eve) Ensler and other women’s groups have used to raise money towards fighting violence against women – must now be construed as an oppressive one.”

Not to worry, Lizzie. Mount Holyoke intends to replace the play with a new version that will be “trans-inclusive.” Moreover, it will be performed alongside the College’s Peer Health Educators, a student-led campus group that provides sex-toy training. That training has a very catchy title: "Frisky Fingers, Vibrating Toys, and Fun with 1: The Beauties of Masturbation (Sex Toys).“

Undergraduate charges for the 2014-15 school year at Mount Holyoke that include tuition, room and board, and a student activities fee? A whopping $55,146. The bet here is one can attend plays and find self-satisfaction for far less money. But no doubt for many women – both with and without vaginas – ponying up $220,584 for a four year degree is money well spent. At least until the taxpayer picks up the tab for Mount Holyoke alumni who default on their student loans.

And so it goes, all in the space of a single week. Yet one is left to wonder when the racialist bean-counting, the sophomoric approach to tragedy and terror, the suppression of "offensive” literature, and the definition of sexual identity completely untethered to biological/anatomical reality, reaches critical mass. These three stories say many things about progressivism, but above all else they reveal the gargantuan vapidness of an ideology dedicated to the proposition that anything resembling universal truths, morality, freedom – and finally reality itself – must be subjugated to the demands of the Self, in all its narcissistic and terminally adolescent emptiness.

As I have said before, the bet here is that we step back from this ideologically induced cultural suicide march before we tumble over the cliff – because fire does burn, two plus two does equal four, the sun does rise in the east and the overwhelming majority of humans ultimately need something bigger than the Self to believe in.
