Civics Class

We are told that there are three equal branches of government, but I’m not buying it. If that were the case, how would the unelected members of the Supreme Court be able to legislate on such matters as abortions and same-sex marriages? If things were equally divided, how would Barack Obama be free to decide that he didn’t have to call the suicidal nuclear deal he cut with Iran a treaty, which would have required passage by two-thirds of the Senate? For that matter, if the legislative branch is a co-equal of the executive branch, why is it that it requires 60 senators to stop the nuclear deal in its tracks, but Obama only needs 40 senators to over-ride a Senate veto?

Someone sent me a pass-along that pointed out that by 1944, 11,000 rockets had been fired at England by the Nazis. When Churchill retaliated, he was called a war hero. By 2014, 11,000 rockets had been fired at Israel by Hamas. When Netanyahu retaliated, he was called a war criminal.

I was sorry to see Scott Walker have to drop out of the race for the GOP nomination, not because he was my favorite, but because if the herd was going to be thinned, I would have preferred to see Gilmore, Graham, Bush, Huckabee, Kasich, Pataki, Santorum, Trump and Rand Paul, headed off to the sunset.

I realize that many of you will take exception to my including Donald Trump in the list of contenders I’d like to see gone, but I don’t trust someone who changes his party affiliation more often than he changes his socks. I am also waiting for Trump to attack a Democrat for a change. He goes after any and all of his competitors, including the soft-spoken miracle worker, Dr. Ben Carson, but never seems to have anything bad to say about Hillary Clinton or even Barack Obama, for that matter. On the contrary, he not only helped finance Hillary’s Senate campaigns, but was one of the only people not named Clinton who praised her performance as Secretary of State.

Trump bashes Fox News, but never has a harsh word to say about his hometown rag, the New York Times.

To my utter amazement, a large number of my fellow conservatives seem drawn to a blowhard who promises to make China, Russia and Mexico, heel at his command, but hasn’t said how he’s going to manage it because even he understands he can’t possibly deliver on such a promise. More and more, he reminds me of the weasel in “Die Hard” who’s convinced he can negotiate with Alan Rickman and his Eurotrash henchmen, up until the time that Rickman shoots him in the head just to shut him up. But, then, of course, that weasel hadn’t written “The Art of the Deal.”

I happen to have tips on my mind because I was recently involved in a contretemps involving a tip for an uber driver. I wasn’t the driver or the passenger, but when I heard about the fee and the size of the tip that was expected, I was flabbergasted. But once I began thinking about tips in general, I realized they don’t make sense. If you’re a waiter in a high-priced restaurant, your tip on a typical meal for four wine drinkers is going to be upwards of $150. But if you’re working even harder in a hash joint, serving the same four people, you’re lucky to get a ten-spot. And if you happen to be a waitress at 35,000 feet, you’re not going to get a dime, even though you’re the one who’s going to have to worry about air pockets and hijackers.

Hillary Clinton predictably came out against the Keystone pipeline, even though union members have been begging for it to be built. But, obviously, wealthy San Francisco environmentalists have a lot more clout with the party than a bunch of working stiffs. However, because the overpaid union bosses are treated like royalty by the liberal politicians, and would never think of allowing the leftists to fend for themselves at election time, the Democrats can afford to take union workers for granted and occasionally even kick them in the teeth.

In the meantime, because he had the gumption to body slam a member of the Afghan police who had been repeatedly raping a young boy and beating up the boy’s mother, Green Beret Sgt. Charles Martland was booted out of the Army after 11 years of honorable service. Keep in mind that these Afghan cops and soldiers have been using our warriors for target practice for over a decade. If it were up to me, I’d get us out of that Islamic pig sty and let the Taliban teach them some manners.

Not to insult the individuals in the service, but it seems that the U.S. military is no longer a force for good, but merely a laboratory for social engineering. As loony as it is to place women in combat roles, Obama topped himself by appointing a homosexual to be the new Secretary of the Army.

Ever since Bill Clinton turned the military into a place where those without a stomach for civilian politics can still find a career that calls for kissing the butts of superiors and knifing one’s peers in the back, things have gone rapidly downhill. Now that the Pentagon officially condones pedophilia, it has hit rock bottom.

I would suggest that young men seeking a career would do well into look into openings with the Mafia. At least that way they could avoid ever having to deal with the V.A.

According to Washington insider Ed Klein, Barack Obama has agreed to endorse Joe Biden’s bid for the nomination on two conditions. The first is that Biden chooses a black man to be his running mate, with Gov. Deval Patrick of Massachusetts at the top of Obama’s short list. The second condition is that Biden agrees to serve only one term and then step down, endorsing Patrick to replace him.

And I bet you thought there could be nothing worse than seeing Hillary elected.

When I recently suggested that egotist Steve Jobs named his creation the iPhone because it sounded better than the mePhone or the myselfPhone, a reader set me straight. He insisted it had something to do with the “i” in internet. I replied: “So if I read you correctly, my theory about Steve Jobs is wrong?! Sorry, but I refuse to believe your facts when they collide with my beliefs. Perhaps I am a Democrat, after all.”

Speaking of unlikely Democrats, I recently wrote to Kim Davis, the county clerk in Kentucky, who’s raised such a ruckus by refusing to sign marriage certificate for homosexuals.

“Dear Mrs. Davis,” I wrote, “Unlike some people, I do not question the sincerity of your religious convictions. My question is why, that being the case, you would choose to be a Democrat. After all, that is the party that has spent the past several decades pushing for abortion on demand, legalizing drugs, removing the 10 Commandments from public spaces, removing religion from the public discourse and, most telling of all, promoting same-sex marriages.

"I look forward to hearing your explanation of this apparent contradiction.”

Although I haven’t received an answer, I have heard that she finally registered as a Republican a few days after I sent her the email. The question remains why, since she converted to Christianity over four years ago, she took so long converting to the GOP, and, instead, kept voting for those who oppose Christian beliefs and who have labored non-stop to promote same-sex marriages!
