The Patriot Post® · Not Funny!
Will Ferrell made a name for himself mocking George W. Bush. But Bush has been out of office for nearly eight years. What could Ferrell do to keep his career going?
There’s plenty of buffoonery to mock on the left. How about a crazy vice president who routinely puts his foot in his mouth? Well, that wouldn’t go over well in Hollywood. So Ferrell is going after another Republican president, one who left office nearly 30 years ago — Ronald Reagan.
The latest Ferrell flick suggests that Reagan was suffering from dementia by the time he was reelected and an intern gets assigned to convince Reagan he is an actor playing the president.
This is just another attempt to pass off the left’s narrative to the popular culture, and denigrate this great man. It is disgusting, but even more so coming on the heels of Nancy Reagan’s passing.
Patti Davis, President Reagan’s daughter, wrote an open letter to Ferrell asking him just what it is that he finds so amusing about Alzheimer’s. You can read her letter here.
Of course, I’m still waiting for the left to do a movie about the intern who came to the White House, starry eyed about the president she thought walked on water, but ended up in the Oval Office on her knees. At least this film would include a favorite narrative of the left — the war on women!
[UPDATE: News is breaking as I write that Will Ferrell is pulling out of this production.]
Deconstructing Reagan
As most of you know, I served all eight years in the Reagan administration. The early years were at the Department of Education, eventually becoming under secretary serving with Bill Bennett. In that capacity, I had regular occasions to interact with President Reagan at White House meetings. He was as sharp as anyone in the room.
In Reagan’s second term, I was selected to be the president’s chief domestic policy advisor, and spent my days working in the West Wing. I had lunch with President Reagan and top aides most Mondays.
I saw his sharp sense of humor, witnessed him making serious policy decisions and watched as he expressed appropriate reactions to adverse news. Never was there any sign that he was anything other than fully competent.
Historically, one of the things the communists and Nazis engaged in, and which Muslim extremists do today, is to rewrite history and desecrate the memories and the graves of their enemies. That is how deep their hatred runs.
What you are seeing in textbooks and in this movie is the left’s attempt to deny history, to deconstruct Ronald Reagan, and desecrate his grave. They should be ashamed of themselves, but the left doesn’t even understand that concept.
My friends, don’t miss the left’s bigger goal, which motivates something like this film. The goal is to deconstruct and delegitimize the Reagan presidency and, by extension, conservatism generally.
Reagan’s presidency brought down the Soviet Union, and created economic growth and prosperity that the left can only dream about.
The real memory loss issue here is the one that is going on in classrooms all over American, where the Reagan years are presented as an era of greed and the world was on the brink of nuclear war.
This movie, which hopefully never makes the big screen, is the history the left is attempting to create. They think Reagan entered office as a dunce and left addled by Alzheimer’s. Anything that happened during his presidency was the result of handlers or sheer dumb luck.
One truth worth mentioning here is that these same leftists repeatedly challenged Reagan during his career, and he beat them every time. And the American people loved him for it!
He left office with a 63% approval rating and remains one of America’s most popular modern presidents.
When he passed away in 2004, crowds swarmed the streets of Washington and California. The liberal media, still in denial about this beloved man, were stunned.
Good News
Sgt. 1st Class Charles Martland, a decorated Green Beret, will be allowed to remain in the United States Army. Martland and his commanding officer, Captain Dan Quinn, were disciplined after they confronted a local Afghan police commander who raped a young boy.
When the Afghan commander laughed off the incident, Martland knocked him to the ground. The Army initiated disciplinary procedures against both Green Berets. Captain Quinn was relieved of his command and retired early. Martland’s future was in jeopardy.
The case received national attention. Rep. Duncan Hunter, Jr. said it “exemplified” everything that was wrong with our politically correct military. A coalition of conservative organizations swung into action to expose this outrage.
Thankfully, news broke [Thursday] night that the Army has reversed course. According to Lt. Col. Jerry Pionk, the Board for Correction of Military Records modified one of Martland’s evaluation reports, “which will allow him to remain in the Army.”
Responding to [Thursday] night’s good news, Rep. Hunter said, “The Army did the right thing… and the American people won. Martland is who we want out there.”
