The Patriot Post® · Prudence and Truth in the Time of Kavanaugh
Appearing at the Values Voter Summit over the weekend, Senator Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) reassured conservatives, telling them not to “get rattled” by the Left’s attempts to derail the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh because Senate Republicans “are going to plow right through it and do [their] jobs!”
If Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) was genuinely concerned about justice, the Senate would have known about the allegations of Christine Blasey Ford when Judge Kavanaugh appeared before the Senate. Instead, Feinstein sat on the allegations for six or seven weeks until the eleventh hour in what appears as a last ditch effort to stop the confirmation.
Understand that our goal as Christians should always be pursuing the truth. That pursuit requires that we be prudent and discerning. Right now, prudence tells us that the real issue here isn’t a search for truth, but a railroading of Judge Kavanaugh because of the constitutionalism he stands for. Discernment dictates that we be appropriately skeptical of these new claims made by an accuser in an article in the ultra-left New Yorker. It’s very relevant that the New York Times passed on this latest allegation when it was shopped to them, saying they couldn’t find anyone to corroborate the accuser’s story.
Was it out of concern for the truth that Senator Feinstein sat on information about the allegations against Judge Kavanaugh for weeks before releasing it? Is it out of concern for the truth that a preponderance of “mainstream” media is openly pushing information in support of a narrative designed to derail this confirmation?
At a time like this, prudence helps us see that the truth is that a political railroading operation is fully underway. Are the interests of Christine Ford and other accusers being attended to? Or are the accusers being used by political actors who only care about stopping Judge Kavanaugh? It is beyond apparent that Senate Democrats and their enablers are most interested — not in the truth — but in a deliberate campaign to derail this confirmation with the hopes that they can continue to use the Court to impose policies on Americans like abortion on demand, the redefinition of marriage, open borders and the list goes on – all policies which the American people have rejected.
McConnell took to the Senate floor yesterday making clear that this latest character assassination attempt would not succeed, “…I want to make it perfectly clear — Judge Kavanaugh will be voted on here on the Senate floor.” I am hopeful this theater by the Left will thrust the issue of the courts to the forefront of voters’ minds. After all, in the 2016 presidential election, 21 percent of voters said Supreme Court appointments were the most important issue affecting their vote, and they broke for Trump 56 to 41 percent. Seven out of ten voters said appointments were either the most important or an important factor in their vote. Who can doubt what would have happened if Justice Neil Gorsuch was not on the court, and if we had another Justice Sotomayor or Ginsburg in his place?
This election is about the courts. It is about those who want to be ruled by judges and those who want to remain free to govern themselves. For the sake of our nation, let us vote in support of the confirmation of judges who will uphold the latter.
