The Patriot Post® · Restaurant Owner Faces Death Threats for Hosting GOP Breakfast
The owner of a popular restaurant in Mount Juliet, Tennessee, is facing death threats and accusations of being a Nazi after he hosted a breakfast for Rep. Marsha Blackburn’s (R-TN) Senate campaign.
Tom Courtney, owner of Courtney’s Restaurant, told the “Todd Starnes Radio Show” the entire staff has been subjected to an avalanche of hate from a far-left mob.
“I can’t begin to tell you how awful it was,” Courtney said on the nationally syndicated radio program. “They called me a racist, bigot, called me an ‘MF’ plenty of times and [one guy] told me to watch my back.”
Courtney was infuriated because the leftists even went after a 17-year-old who works at the meat-and-three.
“I had a cashier crying as she was answering the phone,” he said.
“If you are threatening a 17-year-old minor and threatening people to watch your back — when does it stop being freedom of speech and become a threat?” Courtney wondered.
The controversy started after he posted photos of Blackburn serving food and greeting people at a campaign breakfast. Courtney said a number of groups take advantage of their banquet facilities.
“I’m a restaurant owner. I’m here to make money. I feed people. That’s what I do,” he said.
And the restaurant made good money from the Blackburn event and he said the staff made “great money in tips.”
Well, that’s because Republicans are typically good tippers.
Anyway, all you-know-what broke loose when Blackburn’s opponents discovered the photos online.
“It’s coming from the crazies on the Left — that’s it,” Courtney said. “These people are crazy. I don’t understand what they are thinking. We’re in America. How they are threatening people and doing this — it’s awful.”
However, thousands of people have flooded the restaurant with well-wishes, including Blackburn.
“The radical Left is out of control, and their angry mob is right here in Tennessee,” she wrote on Twitter. “Tom, we appreciate you opening your restaurant up to us and we hope you are treated with the same respect as you treat your customers.”
Courtney tells the “Todd Starnes Radio Show” that he has been overwhelmed by the support they’ve received.
“The backlash to the backlash has been tremendous,” he said. “We’ve seen an outpouring of love and support from so many people.”
And while the staff at Courtney’s Restaurant has been through a terrible ordeal, Courtney tells me that given the chance to go back in time he would still host a breakfast for Blackburn.
That’s the spirit, Tom! Hold the line!
