Reference to the Deep State, a shadow government that exists within the federal bureaucracy, is of recent origin. But it is not new, and when you realize the special status of people who are mainly anonymous and who are nearly impossible to fire, it is inevitable that a cancer would metastasize in the shadows, free from the sunshine’s power as a disinfectant.

Back in the 1930s, there sprang into existence a shadow government consisting of socialists and communists, loyalists to the Soviet Union. The most prominent and notorious of them was Alger Hiss, FDR’s fair-haired boy, who played a central role at the Yalta Conference, where FDR, over Churchill’s strenuous objections, handed Eastern Europe over to Stalin.

The difference between that earlier Deep State and the one we have today is that it worked in tandem with President Roosevelt, a foolish leftist who held Stalin, not Churchill, in high regard. He even referred to Stalin as Uncle Joe.

It’s the descendants of those earlier traitors who currently lead the resistance movement in various federal agencies and who worked hand-in-glove with Barack Obama and were anxious to continue their dirty work with Hillary Clinton. That is why they have been doing everything in their considerable power to resist and obstruct the current administration.

In other words, they are in league with their fellow left-wingers in the House and Senate and their hand maidens in the media. But unlike the politicians and pundits, they don’t have to worry about being voted out of their jobs or losing their gigs over sexual harassment charges.

I can’t begin to tell you what a relief I felt when I came to this realization. That’s because it was driving me nuts for the past two years trying to figure out why the high-profile Never-Trumpers like James Comey, Andrew McCabe, John Brennan, Peter Strzok, Lisa Page, James Clapper, and Michael Hayden were so ready to risk their careers and possibly even their freedom on behalf of Hillary Clinton, a proven liar, money launderess, and all-around nogootnik.

It was only when I realized that it wasn’t so much that the treasonous Deep Staters who had infiltrated the Justice Department, the FBI, the NSA, the CIA, and the State Department loved Mrs. Clinton; rather, it was that they hated and feared having an American patriot, one dedicated to putting the best interests of his fellow Americans ahead of others, in the White House.

It appears that we needn’t only be irate about the anchor babies delivered by Latinas. We should save some of our contempt for the pregnant women who arrive daily on jetliners from Russia, China, Japan, and other points on the globe. They are buying U.S. citizenship for the price of an airplane ticket.

Until Congress does something — I mean something besides endlessly prattling on about something called “comprehensive immigration reform” — things will only keep getting worse.

There are a few specific things that need to be done. For one thing, illegally entering the country should be made a felony. So long as the consequences of being caught are similar to receiving a jaywalking ticket, except not as expensive, you can’t expect foreigners to take the crime seriously. Next, Congress has to put a stop to visa lotteries and chain migration.

Finally, you need the Supreme Court to finally interpret the 14th Amendment as written, emphasizing the fact it was solely intended to grant citizenship to recently freed slaves.

Dennis Prager, a columnist and syndicated radio talk-show host, generally makes a good deal of sense, but, like many other conservative pundits, continues to draw a line between liberals and left-wingers.

I suppose the intention is to show a tolerance for Democrats, but you may have noticed that neither Prager nor others ever presents an example. The truth is, a Democrat in Texas, Oklahoma, and Utah is no different from a Democrat in New York, Florida, or California.

Some days these radical pinheads call themselves Democrats, socialists, left-wingers, progressives, social democrats or simply liberals, but it’s a difference without a distinction. It’s like Angus King and Bernie Sanders pretending to be Independents when they caucus with the Democrats and vote exactly like Chuck Schumer and Dianne Feinstein.

It’s a shame that Donald Trump can’t sue Democrats for slander. After all, they keep calling him a Nazi and comparing him to Hitler, in spite of the fact that he hasn’t murdered anyone, let alone millions.

Which reminds me: Democrats always go around labeling those who disagree with them fascists and Nazis, but they never employ “communist” as a pejorative, even though the communists in China, Cuba, Cambodia, and the Soviet Unions murdered far more people than Hitler and Mussolini ever did.

Louis Farrakhan received an ovation following a speech he delivered in Iran, during which he called for death to America and death to Israel.

At 85, Farrakhan is like one of those aging singers performing his old hits — like Tony Bennett crooning about little cable cars and Neil Diamond singing “Sweet Caroline” for the 27, 849th time — in giving his fans what they want.

Only, unlike the crooners, Farrakhan’s stage is in Tehran, not Vegas.

Whenever I wonder why leftists are doing their best to destroy America, I recall a scene in “The Sea Wolf” in which Eddie G. Robinson, as the evil ship captain Wolf Larsen, explains himself. Comparing himself to Satan, the Fallen Angel in Milton’s “Paradise Lost,” he says: “Better to rule in Hell than serve in Heaven.”

Because leftists always presume themselves to be the elite, they figure that if they can ever turn this republic into a mobocracy, they’ll constitute the permanent ruling class. What they never seem to remember is that tyrants don’t like their competitors to stick around.

Although, occasionally, a despot will outlive assassination attempts and the other hazards of being a dictator, people like Fidel Castro, who made it all the way to 90, and Stalin, who made it to 74, are notable exceptions. Mussolini met his Maker at 61, Trotsky at 60, Hitler at 56, Beria at 54. and Che Guevara never reached 40.

Jan Hooper passed along a quote that pointed out that “Ego is the anesthesia that deadens the pain of stupidity.”

It applies to a great many people in public life, ranging from Alec Baldwin to Joy Behar and from Joe Biden to Maxine Waters, but in the case of Barack Obama, the former narcissist-in-chief, it’s so applicable that it deserves to be engraved on his headstone.

And the sooner, the better.
