Media Hailed Klansman & Coward, but Bashes War Hero Bush

Editor’s note: This is adapted from Todd’s opening monologue on the Monday edition of “Starnes Country” on Fox Nation.

The Associated Press faced a firestorm of criticism over a story and a tweet that smeared the legacy of former President George H.W. Bush.

“George H.W. Bush, a patrician New Englander whose presidency soared with the coalition victory over Iraq in Kuwait, but then plummeted in the throes of a weak economy that led voters to turn him out of office after a single term, has died,” the tweet read.

Talk about mean tweets…

Two days later the AP deleted the tweet and updated its story — but they did not apologize to the Bush family. It’s really no surprise that a bunch of political hacks tooling around as journalists could not muster a measure of common decency.

Sarah Palin called it the “crummiest” tweet about the president. And Michelle Malkin said it was “unhinged, bottom of the barrel.”

Kyle Kashuv, who survived the high school shooting in Parkland, Florida, pointed out that the AP was much more sympathetic when Fidel Castro died.

It does make one wonder if the Associated Press will employ the same low standards when President Clinton passes away.

Will the Associated Press lead paragraph include references to impeachment or broken marriage vows or the fact that he soiled the dignity of the Oval Office by having his way with a White House intern?

Let’s get real. There’s no way the Associated Press would ever denigrate the memory of a Democrat.

Consider the lead paragraph in their story about the death of Sen. Robert Byrd (D-WV). He was a former leader of the Ku Klux Klan and a staunch opponent of the Civil Rights movement.

But those two facts were noticeably absent from the AP’s lead paragraph:

“SENATOR ROBERT BYRD OF WEST VIRGINIA, A FIERY ORATOR VERSED IN THE CLASSICS AND A HARD-CHARGING POWER BROKER WHO STEERED BILLIONS OF FEDERAL DOLLARS TO THE STATE OF HIS DEPRESSION-ERA UPBRINGING, DIED MONDAY.”

And the lead paragraph in Sen. Ted Kennedy’s (D-MA) obit conveniently omitted references to his role in a car accident in which a young woman drowned. Perhaps the AP writer could not spell Chappaquiddick?

“SENATOR EDWARD M. KENNEDY, OF MASSACHUSETTS, THE LAST SURVIVING BROTHER IN A POLITICAL DYNASTY AND ONE OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL SENATORS IN HISTORY, DIED TUESDAY NIGHT AT HIS HOME ON CAPE COD AFTER A YEAR-LONG STRUGGLE WITH BRAIN CANCER.”

The Associated Press glorifies Democrats, no matter if they were a Klansman or cowards. But they demonize Republicans, no matter if they are selfless public servants or war heroes.
