President Trump’s special guests at the State of the Union address tell you everything you need to know about his policies and his love for America.

While the Democrats often claim that my father-in-law’s agenda is only intended to serve the wealthy elite, his guest list showed that his true priority is helping ordinary Americans, especially those who have been ignored by politicians in Washington.

The President’s guests were victims of anti-Semitism, families whose loved ones were killed by criminal illegal aliens just weeks ago, and people who suffered under our broken criminal justice system. These people are regular Americans who could have easily been your neighbors, friends, and coworkers — and they are the reason why this President continues fighting for our country that he loves so much.

One of the most important domestic issues for President Trump has been criminal justice reform. For the last two years, the President actively campaigned to fix our broken and outdated sentencing system, successfully spearheading legislation that would reduce recidivism and help former inmates reintegrate into society.

Matthew Charles was one of the those inmates. After being sentenced to 35 years in prison in 1996 for selling drugs, Charles became a law clerk, mentored his fellow inmates, taught GED courses, and completed over 30 bible studies.

“Now, Matthew is the very first person to be released from prison under the FIRST STEP Act,” President Trump said as Charles proudly listened to his remarks. “Welcome home,” he added.

Another important issue for the President is immigration and border security.

For decades, politicians in Washington have failed to reform our broken immigration system, leading to a major humanitarian and security crisis on the southern border. Sadly, when our government fails to protect us from illegal immigration, American families end up paying the ultimate price.

In stark contrast to the smiling face of Matthew Charles, the faces of three generations of the Bissell family, who were also invited to the State of the Union on Tuesday, were filled with pain and grief. In January, the family lost two loving grandparents, Gerald and Sharon, when they were mercilessly slaughtered by a criminal alien.

“I will never forget, and I will fight for the memory of Gerald and Sharon, that it should never happen again,” President Trump vowed. “Not one more American life should be lost because our nation failed to control its very dangerous border.”

My father-in-law also made sure to remind the American people of their country’s history of greatness by honoring several World War II veterans who participated in one of America’s greatest triumphs.

“On D-Day, June 6, 1944, 15,000 young American men jumped from the skies, and 60,000 more stormed in from the sea to save our civilization from tyranny,” the President observed. “Here with us tonight are three of those incredible heroes. Private First Class Joseph Reilly, Staff Sergeant Irving Locker, and Sergeant Herman Zeitchik. Gentlemen, we salute you.”

Every guest that my father-in-law invited to his State of the Union address on Tuesday was there to represent the millions of forgotten Americans that he is committed to fighting for as President. They reflected the very best America has to offer, as well as symbols of the work that’s yet to be done. President Trump revealed his true character and some of America’s finest examples of strength, patriotism, and faith in this historic address that calls on all of us to “choose greatness.”

Clearly, Making America Great Again has always been about making America great for all Americans.
