The Patriot Post® · Goya Board Threatens Can-Sell Culture
Praise Donald Trump — get canceled. Praise Barack Obama — get canceled. Raise your company’s sales by 1,000 percent — get censored. Welcome to the life of Goya CEO Bob Unanue. The conservative folk hero, who Americans rewarded for his conviction by sending profits through the roof, is back under fire — this time from his own board of directors. Apparently, shattering company sales records doesn’t matter if you don’t have the right point of view.
His comments, the family said, were unacceptable. On Fox Business last week, Bob was very candid about where he thought America was headed. “I think this is mission accomplished,” he said frankly. “Mission accomplished by the union, the partnership, the conglomerate of social media, Big Tech, big media and government, big government, for ushering in the dawn of a new world order. This great reset… with an unverified election. And the big prize is the United States.” Unanue’s family, who makes up the majority of the board, was appalled. By Friday, they’d convened to punish Unanue, voting that he “must now obtain board permission before making any more media appearances.”
“Bob does not speak for Goya Foods when he speaks on TV,” third-generation owner Andy Unanue insisted. “The family has diverse views on politics, but politics is not part of our business. Our political point of views are irrelevant.” That might have been refreshing before last summer, when Bob made headlines for refusing to back down from his partnership with Donald Trump. After all, corporate neutrality is all most Americans have ever wanted. But Goya’s situation is different. Their CEO was viciously attacked by the Left for praising Trump—and yet, when he did the same for Barack Obama, he was lavishly applauded. It was the kind of cancel culture double standard that conservatives have grown to despise. When Unanue refused to apologize, Americans didn’t just cheer — they stacked their carts with rice and beans. Now, after cashing in on their CEOs courage, the board (following the example of Chick-fil-A’s capitulation) seems intent on snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
“I could be fired tomorrow,” Bob admitted. “It’s touch and go.” All of this despite his public willingness to give the new administration a chance. “I was very thrilled to hear Biden call for unity and prayer,” he has said. “I respect him.” But respect isn’t enough. This corporate mob wants absolute loyalty to the extremists of the Democratic Party. And that, Caroline Glick warns, is the scary part. By saying that conservatives shouldn’t have jobs or banks or places in society, liberals are taking America to some very dangerous territory.
“This incredible hatred,” she explained on “Washington Watch,” “the demonization of 74 million Americans who voted for Donald Trump… is unprecedented in American history,” Glick warned. “And it’s much worse than [what] we saw in the 1950s under the McCarthy House un-American Activities Committee that blacklisted communists and communist sympathizers.” When you have “a fusion of operations and interests and positions being put forward by corporate giants in a political party in the United States — and that particular political party also controls all elected arms of the federal government — this… does look a lot more like classical fascism in Italy in the 1930s than… what we’re used to in the United States.” Democrats and their megaphones in the media and Big Tech don’t just want to silence conservatives — they want to repress, ruin, and criminalize them.
That isn’t capitalism, Caroline argued. It’s not the free market system. It’s a ruling oligarchy bent on replacing American democracy. “The kind of power that’s being brought to bear today against half of the country — we’ve never seen it before. It’s disturbing. And it’s very important to talk about it, because people have to be aware. They’re [going to have to fight to] to protect their right to freedom of speech and the right to [call out] what’s happening.” We can’t put blinders on, Caroline warned, or we’ll be “silenced, shunned, and canceled.”
The Great Purge, as she calls it, “isn’t about one side seizing the levers of power for itself. It is about one side denying the other side the right to even vie for power.”
Ironically, Bob Unanue wasn’t “vying for power” when he visited the White House last July. He was fighting to give the Hispanic community more scholarships, jobs, and opportunities. If his board had bothered to check, they might have realized that the man who was leading that coalition, Donald Trump — the same Republican they want to oust their CEO for supporting — has done more for the minority populations Goya serves than any president in recent memory. “He was really able to break the [grip of] identity politics that Americans have been under since the time of Obama,” Caroline pointed out. Before the pandemic set in, there had never been “low[er] unemployment among African Americans, among Hispanic Americans, and among women in the Trump economy. He raise[d] up all Americans across the board.”
Today, Democrats are bringing those divisive politics back in a way that’s truly incredible. The last thing any corporation should do is punish leaders who think Americans deserve better. Encourage Goya’s board of directors to back off Bob Unanue and start listening to consumers — not cancel culture. Call company headquarters at 201-348-4900 or email them here.

Federal Court: Rule of Law 1, Biden 0
Under Joe Biden, America won’t just run out of oil — it’ll run out of ink! The new president has been so busy signing executive orders that he’s probably at risk of carpal tunnel syndrome. Amazingly, the man who told George Stephanopoulos “you can’t use executive orders unless you’re a dictator,” doesn’t seem to have any use for the democratic process so far.
From transgenderism in the military and schools to the forced-masking of citizens, Americans are having trouble keeping up with the new president. In a flurry of executive power grabs that’s putting Barack Obama to shame, Biden is on pace to sign more orders in two weeks than Donald Trump did in 100 days. It’s a stunning reversal from the last four years, when liberals and their media echo chambers bashed the GOP administration for “ruling by fiat” only to embrace five times as many mandates from Biden.
“We have three branches of government for a reason,” Freshman Rep. Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) fired back on “Washington Watch.” “President Biden needs to work with Congress if he truly means what he says about uniting the country and working together. Stop with the executive orders, and let’s use the process and the systems of government that we’ve had in place for over 200 years. It’s just not the way to govern — and it’s definitely not the way to lead.”
The deluge of EOs is even more revealing when you consider the current Congress. Biden’s race to issue policies without the House or Senate shows his unwillingness to work within the system — which, oh-by-the-way, Democrats control! Maybe he’s concerned about his party’s razor-thin majorities in Congress. Yes, the Democrats control the gavels in both chambers, but their shrinking ranks won’t be so eager to embrace the extremism that lost them so much ground in November. If he’s worried that the legislature won’t rubber stamp his priorities — unpopular moves like raising energy prices, killing jobs, radicalizing the military, and transgendering our bathrooms won’t pass, he’s probably right.
But only a weak leader with no intentions of consensus-building would kick off his term this way. And the media, apparently, has no intentions of holding the new administration to the lofty rhetoric they spoke — and abandoned — on the steps of the U.S. Capitol. But then, as Rep. McClain pointed out, the press isn’t in the news reporting business — not anymore. “[They’re] in the entertainment business… Whatever happened to just reporting the facts?” The same thing that happened to the Washington Post’s fact-checking project: it all disappeared when the narrative was inconvenient.
Fortunately for Americans who believe in the democratic process (which is still the majority, Democrats will be disappointed to know), the courts are already taking the administration to task. Living up to their promise of holding the Biden White House accountable, the wheels of the states’ conservative defense are already churning. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R), part of a determined coalition of state attorneys general, sued the administration on its immigration order almost as soon as the ink was dry.
The “Save and Defend” project had its first victory on Tuesday after Texas argued that Biden’s halt to deportations was illegal. In a sign that there are serious problems with the order, U.S. District Judge Drew Tipton, a Trump appointee, blocked the policy from taking effect nationwide for 14 days. For the president to unilaterally stop illegal immigrants from being sent home, Texas insisted, broke the enforcement mechanism they had in place and put a burden of increased education and health care costs on the state.
Tipton wrote in his injunction that Texas had “‘a substantial likelihood of success’ on at least two of its claims, including that the deportation freeze violated a federal immigration law stating that authorities ‘shall remove’ immigrants with final deportation orders within 90 days.” Paxton applauded the judge, saying, “The court’s decision to stop the Biden administration from casting aside congressionally-enacted immigration laws is a much-needed remedy for DHS’s unlawful action. A near-complete suspension of deportations would only serve to endanger Texans and undermine federal law. Blatantly illegal security threats cannot be allowed to stand, and the rule of law must be upheld. I commend the Court for prioritizing the law and safety of our citizens…”
It was the first victory in what conservatives hope is a long and successful fight against Biden’s extremism. Democrats didn’t mind suing Donald Trump over everything he signed, just to slow him down. It’s time for conservatives to do the same. Because unlike the Left, we have the law on our side.

Senate Dems Move to the Impeach State
Democrats have never been the party of good behavior, despite what their current members will tell you. While their leadership tries to haul Donald Trump before the Senate for a second impeachment trial, most conservatives want to know: where was this civility four years ago? If it’s criminal to suggest that people to figuratively “fight,” then what about encouraging actual violence? If that’s the new standard, then make room on the witness stand. Because the impeachment hearings are about to get a lot more crowded.
“You have to be ready to throw a punch,” the House speaker who accused Donald Trump of incitement has said. “Get up in their face,” Senator Cory Booker (D-N.J.) demanded. Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) told a frenzied crowd to gang up on members of the Trump cabinet in public “and push back on them. Tell them they’re not welcome.” “[We’ll] fight Trump… in the streets,” Congressman Joaquin Castro (D-Texas) vowed. Even the new vice president, Kamala Harris, has cause for concern under the Left’s new standard since she didn’t just ignore the violence of the summer — she condoned it. “I support them,” she said. When is her inquisition before Congress scheduled, you might ask? It’s not.
“Democrats insist on applying a test of incitement to a Republican that they refuse to apply to themselves,” Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) told his colleagues in a fiery speech on the chamber floor. “Are we going to put every politician in jail — are we going to impeach every politician who has used the words fight figuratively in a speech? Shame!”
This whole ridiculous clamor for impeachment is a waste of time, conservatives argued — and frankly, a clear sign that the Democrats aren’t interested in real governing. “They hate Donald Trump, and they’re engaging in… petty retribution,” Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) argued. “They didn’t pretend to follow due process, they didn’t have hearings, they didn’t pretend to look at any facts or any evidence,” he said. “This was an exercise in political rage. It was their id speaking … look, these are the same Democrats who four years ago, in 2017 — actually in December of 2016, before Trump was sworn in, said they wanted to impeach him. They’ve wanted to impeach him from the beginning. They did it a year ago… It’s time to move on.”
At least 45 Republicans appear ready to, based on the 45-55 vote in the Senate Tuesday. Sen. Paul’s proposal, which questioned the constitutionality of Trump’s impeachment, was strategic — meant to show how little support the Democrats’ witch hunt actually has. While Senators Mitt Romney (R-Utah), Ben Sasse (R-Nebr.), Susan Collins (R-Maine), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) voted with Democrats, Paul said the block of 45 made it clear that impeachment “is dead on arrival.” Liberals would need a dozen more Republicans to convict Donald Trump. “Ninety-five percent of the caucus voted that the whole proceeding was unconstitutional,” the Kentucky senator pointed out — including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.). “Democrats can beat this partisan horse as long as they want… [but] the trial is all over.”
If the Left insists on pursuing this sham trial, then fine. It will only cement in Americans’ minds that they’ve never been interested in anything but destroying Donald Trump and bringing substantive progress for our nation to a grinding halt. At the end of the day, this is just political theater. They want to punish Trump for the tragedy at the Capitol, while months of tragedies continue to smolder across the country with the Left’s blessing.
They call all conservatives “domestic terrorists” when what happened on January 6th was, as Caroline Glick points out, “but a pale glimmer of the insurrection mounted in the streets of America’s cities throughout the spring and summer, with the enthusiastic support and financial backing of Democrat leaders and their corporate sponsors. [A whopping] 700 police officers were injured, dozens of citizens were killed, tens of thousands of businesses were destroyed and vandalized during the Antifa and Black Lives Matter riots. Property damage and losses were assessed at $2 billion. Government buildings were besieged, burned to the ground, and vandalized.”
Democrats need to be extremely careful of what they wish for with this stunt — because double standards like theirs will be a lot harder to excuse on Election Day.

This Army Ranger Isn’t Done Fighting for America
There are a lot of good conservatives in Congress — even more after November — but it takes a special kind of leader to show courage on the tough issues. Congressman Warren Davidson (R-Ohio) is one of those rare Republicans who doesn’t mind speaking out when something is fundamentally wrong — no matter what the Left calls him. When Joe Biden decided to radically compromise the military and wave in people who identify as transgender, the former Army ranger didn’t hesitate. He stood up and called it wrong. He didn’t care who else stood with him — because doing what’s right has always been more important to him than doing what’s popular.
A lot of conservatives wonder why their leaders don’t step out and tackle the hard issues. Maybe it’s because they don’t hear any appreciation from their constituents when they do. As I said yesterday, there are a lot of spineless and cowardly people out there. When you actually find one who’s going to stand up for your convictions — like Warren Davidson has — stand with them.
To hear him go to bat for your values and our brave men and women in uniform, check out our conversation Tuesday. Then, when you get a chance, drop him a note of thanks for being the kind of leader with the backbone to do something about the values you care about.
