The Patriot Post® · Another Great Victory
The Supreme Court yesterday issued a decision in the case of Coach Kennedy. You may recall that Coach Kennedy was fired from his job as a high school football coach by the Bremerton, Washington, school district because he prayed by himself on the 50-yard line after each game.
Over time, students voluntarily joined him and that’s when school officials tried to muzzle Coach Kennedy. First, he was ordered to stop praying on the football field, and eventually his coaching contract was canceled.
Believe it or not, Sports Illustrated saw this praying coach as a threat to democracy. They may know a thing or two about sports, but they evidently know nothing about constitutional law or democracy.
Thankfully, six justices on the Supreme Court disagreed with the “legal eagles” at Sports Illustrated. Writing for the majority, Justice Neil Gorsuch declared:
“Both the Free Exercise and Free Speech Clauses of the First Amendment protect expressions like Mr. Kennedy’s. Nor does a proper understanding of the Amendment’s Establishment Clause require the government to single out private religious speech for special disfavor.
"The Constitution and the best of our traditions counsel mutual respect and tolerance, not censorship and suppression, for religious and nonreligious views alike.”
Once again, I shudder to think how differently this case would have turned out if Hillary Clinton, not Donald Trump, had replaced Justices Scalia, Kennedy and Ginsburg.
The Left’s Insurrection
The violent reaction of radical pro-abortion Democrats to Friday’s Dobbs decision continued over the weekend. Multiple crisis pregnancy centers were vandalized and firebombed.
The pro-abortion protests in Phoenix, Arizona, got a little “insurrectiony” as violent demonstrators breached the capitol complex and essentially held lawmakers hostage.
While the January 6th Committee is attempting to convince the public that Donald Trump conducted an insurrection against one of the three branches of government, the legislative branch, there is an actual insurrection going on right now against the judiciary.
The Supreme Court has been surrounded by a fence for more than a month to prevent the left-wing insurrectionists from getting inside. Remember when they stormed the court and attempted to breach the doors after Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation?
Democrats are saying that Trump didn’t agree with the election so he tried to reverse the results. Radical Democrats don’t agree with the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision so they are trying to reverse it by any means necessary.
Democrats say that Trump tried to intimidate state officials. But the left used mob protests in front of the justices’ homes to intimidate federal courts.
Democrats say that Trump didn’t agree with the Electoral College, so he tried to include additional electors. They don’t agree with the court’s majority, so they want to add additional justices.
Democrats say that because Trump disagreed with the election result, he undermined democracy. They vehemently disagree with the Dobbs decision and are trying to delegitimize the top court in the country.
Make no mistake about it. “Jane’s Revenge” isn’t just a crowd that got out of hand. Powerful elected officials and their media allies, all Democrats, are leading the charge in demonizing the justices and delegitimizing the Supreme Court.
Donald Trump told his supporters to march “peacefully and patriotically.” AOC urged her supporters to get “into the streets.” Multiple Democrats would not condemn the violence this weekend.
Don’t hold your breath expecting a special committee to study the insurrection stoked by radical Democrats who haven’t been this angry since Republicans freed their slaves. But if Republicans gain control of Congress in November, I strongly recommend they form such a commission.
Left-wing Hate
My good friend Justice Clarence Thomas was among the five who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade. The vitriol and hate aimed against him by self-described liberals is unbelievable. You would be shocked to see how social media is allowing the most vile and racist threats against Thomas.
I wonder how many of these people who are spewing such hate have a sign in their yard that reads, “Hate has no home here.”
Meanwhile, there’s a growing list of corporations that are offering to pay thousands of dollars of expenses, in some cases up to $10,000, for women to travel from pro-life states to pro-abortion states to have abortions. Many of the companies won’t surprise you — Apple, Amazon, Starbucks, Disney.
In Disney’s case, do they understand that kids are their customers? Helping to kill your future customers doesn’t sound like a good business plan.
I think any company doing this should be required to offer similar benefits for a woman who decides to keep her baby or donate similar amounts to employees who are planning to adopt.
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen made it clear recently where she stands. She thinks the economy is better off if we have more abortions. I’ve heard multiple commentators on financial networks repeating her bizarre claims.
So, that’s the corporate line — “Ladies, kill your babies and get back to work!”
Polling shows that the American people don’t approve of this corporate woke agenda. In fact, 68% of Americans say corporations should stay out of the abortion debate entirely.
The Real Extremists
As I noted in Friday’s report, we cannot allow the left to control the narrative and portray pro-life Americans as extremists. The protesters firebombing crisis pregnancy centers and disrupting churches are the extremists in this debate. The radical politicians who can’t name one abortion they would stop are the extremists in this debate.
And many Democrats are now being forced to answer very simple questions: If you want abortion to continue, where do you draw the line? Is there any abortion you believe should not be allowed?
For example, Stacey Abrams went on Fox News Sunday and was asked, “At what point do you start to care about the life of that baby girl” in the womb? She refused to answer the question. By refusing to answer the question, Abrams essentially admitted that she supports abortion up to the moment of birth.
That’s exactly what the Women’s Health Protection Act, which Nancy Pelosi’s House of Representatives already passed, allows.
Joe Biden was right when he said, “Abortion is on the ballot this November.” He meant that the left wants to restore abortion on demand through all nine months of the pregnancy as the law of the land. Unless you vote for pro-life conservatives this November, that’s exactly what we’re going to end up with.
The Nervous Nellies
I can tell you that privately many Republican consultants and pollsters in Washington are very nervous. They are worried that Friday’s decision will backfire on the party and hurt Republicans in the elections. As usual, they have it exactly backwards.
If a Supreme Court with a majority of Republican appointees, including three appointed by Donald Trump, had not overturned Roe v. Wade, conservative voters would have been tremendously demoralized. “Betrayal” would once again become a defining term for the party.
The abortion issue and values issues generally, not “free trade,” have driven millions of voters to the Republican Party.
To the consultants who are saying even now that the economy is the only thing that matters, how did Obama win reelection in 2012 when the economy was so bad? He won because the only message Mitt Romney offered in 2012 was about the economy, while he ignored issues where Obama and the Democrats were vulnerable.
We cannot afford to blow another election by neglecting values issues.
If Democrats prevail in 2022, you will get more dead babies.
You will get more children being told they can choose and change their gender.
You will get more restrictions on religious freedom.
You will get more societal degradation.
You will get more critical race theory in the schools.
You will get more government mandates of all kinds.
You will get more illegal immigration, drug overdoses and crime.
The GOP can’t be a single-issue party! It must talk about family, faith and freedom, too.
