For decades now, our southern border has seen millions of people walking across it to enter our country. For most of that time, it was like an advanced form of hide-and-seek, where the goal was to evade Border Patrol agents.

The last few years, word has gotten around that they no longer have to hide. Simply declare yourself a refugee, and we will put you up in a fine hotel, give you a cell phone, food, money, and legal counsel.

Word spreads fast, and the crowds keep getting larger.

Our immigration system is broken.

And everybody agrees that it’s broken.

The reason it doesn’t get fixed is that Congress insists on writing humongous bills that cover 20 different issues at the same time. It’s hard to find two people who will agree on 20 different things, yet alone a few hundred. They want to make huge bills, because they don’t want you to know everything that is in them.

So congresspeople are forced to vote for things they don’t want to get what they do.

That is insane, and it is criminal for our congressional leaders to force our representatives and senators to do that.

I am sorry that so many wonderful immigrants are being, what’s the word, shunned (?) because of all this immigration baloney going on today.

The problem is that we have over two million illegal immigrants who came into our country just this last year. And, no, they have not been properly vetted, even when we were able to apprehend them.

There are no background checks and no real medical exams.

Yes, I know they call themselves refugees seeking asylum, but it’s a known fact that they have been taught to say that, because then they automatically get to stay, and most don’t go to their court dates anyway. Plus they get free food, lodging, cell phones, and money.

Who wouldn’t want to make the trek to America? It’s no longer the land of opportunity. It’s the land of instant better life; no work required.

The real question is: What level of criminal, evil, or undesirable immigrants should we accept to get all the good ones?

One out of a hundred? With two million newcomers, that is 20,000 criminal, evil, or undesirable immigrants added to our country just this year.

So our government is willing to allow 20,000 criminals, evil, or undesirable people into our country because it wants to help the nice ones?

I’m sorry, but that is criminally irresponsible.

We allow about two million legal immigrants into our country every year. That’s the limit Congress set. That’s what it felt our country could safely and readily absorb. Maybe we should just forget the legal system and just let everybody else decide what is good for our country and who should come here.

Yes, the system is broken. The only way to fix it is to take one part of it at a time and let Congress debate and vote on that. Not a hodgepodge of 20 different things, take it or leave it.
