The Patriot Post® · Democrats Specialize in Creating Narratives, Not Solving Problems
By Richard McDonough
“Black people have voted for Democrats their whole life. They’re still poor.” —Charles Barkley, August 28, 2015
It takes a while to see through the propaganda, but once one does, it becomes glaringly obvious. For example, since the Democrats express themselves so passionately about combating racism, one assumes that they actually care about improving black lives. However, if they did care about black lives, they would directly address the crime problem in the inner cities that takes the lives of many more black people than white people every year. But they cannot do that because they would then have to address the massive black-on-black crime problem, and that would cost them votes. So what they do instead is seize on a case of police misconduct somewhere — for example, Minneapolis (run by Democrats at the state and city level, by the way), where violent felon George Floyd was killed — and begin a nationwide smear campaign against the police, including many officers who had done nothing wrong. They also jumped on the Black Lives Matter bandwagon that has been exposed as a scam that siphoned off millions for the private purchases of some of their prominent leaders.
Saying “black lives matter” gives the impression that one is a brave moral crusader fighting heroically for racial justice. However, since the Black Lives Matter movement was not content to indict the one misbehaving police officer in Minneapolis, but police in general, the price was a massive increase in the number of killed, raped, and robbed black lives and the destruction of inner-city businesses in the ensuing rampant crime wave. Even Democrats now admit this was a massive mistake, but it is a tad late for the dead people.
A lot of children in Sociology 101 or Philosophy 303 were taught the Marxist view that the police are the armed enforcers for the capitalist class (the people that give everybody jobs) against the workers. Since these Marxist views have been deliberately inserted into the culture, Democrats (and other weak-minded people) no longer need to examine the facts to determine what happened in any given case of alleged police misconduct because they already know. The police are guilty a priori! It’s right there in the class notes. As a consequence, they don’t even see the many cases in which police officers unselfishly risk their lives protecting the poor. Nor do they see the fact that most black people want the same or increased police presence in their communities. Our universities now too often teach people not to see what is before their eyes.
Of course, since elections are now rapidly approaching, many Democrats are attempting to craft a new narrative, namely that despite what they said for the past few years, they were never really against the police at all. It has suddenly occurred to them that all those dead people in our inner cities are not a great vote-getter.
One might object that maybe the Democrats were mistaken in their attacks on the police, but that is only one odd case. For the Democrats, unlike the evil Republicans, are trying to solve the climate crisis. Look at all the money they are spending on it!
However, the Democrats are not trying to solve the climate crisis, since all the restrictive climate measures the Democrats impose on the United States (shutting down the U.S. fossil fuel industry) will not be sufficient to avert a climate crisis unless the main polluters, China and India, impose similar measures. And since China and India are modernizing, they will not reduce their use of fossil fuels. The Democrat destruction of the U.S. fossil fuel industry will not stop global warming. The only thing it can be guaranteed to do is damage the United States relative to its enemies around the world, but at least they can take comfort in that.
The Democrat-media obsession with destroying Donald Trump is another case in point. Since Americans are clearly suffering under Biden, one would think it would occur to them to give their full attention to improving the lives of Americans. However, rather than do that, they are obsessed with fabricating the narrative that Trump is an evil insurrectionist — a self-serving political narrative that will help them in the next elections. Unfortunately, that does not lower the price of beef or put gas in the tank.
Perhaps one of the most obvious cases to illustrate the present point is the fact that though Joe Biden appointed VP Kamala Harris as his “border czar,” she has literally done nothing to secure the border. In fact, except for one quick trip to El Paso for a photo op when she found out Trump was going to embarrass her by visiting the border, she appears to want to avoid the border like the plague. Since the Biden administration has done nothing to secure the border — indeed, it has an “open borders” policy — it has instead done the only thing it really knows how to do: namely, construct a shameless narrative that the border mess under its watch is Trump’s fault.
This self-defeating Democrat strategy did not begin recently. Almost everybody now agrees that Lyndon Johnson’s “War on Poverty” was a massive, expensive failure. In 1968, Johnson promised that his War on Poverty would end poverty forever in America. Now, about 45 years and about $22 trillion later, the poverty rate is pretty much the same that it was in 1968. Of course, the narrative Democrats created at the time was that if one opposed Johnson’s expensive War on Poverty, he or she was a racist who cared more about dollars than about people’s lives. Forty-five years of hindsight tells a different story.
Recently, Joe Biden, having no results to show for all his disastrous policies, comically began a new election-year narrative that if the Republicans — who, under Trump, left the country in 2020 with a minuscule 1.4% inflation rate — are elected, they will make inflation much worse. Biden gave no evidence whatsoever for this claim because he has none.
In fact, most of America’s problems are moral problems, having to do with a decline in traditional American values. The Democrats, having helped to cause most of these moral problems with their attacks on religion, the family, the rule of law, and moral responsibility, are literally incapable of addressing the real issues, ergo their obsession with name-calling and narrative-creation (calling Republicans racists, sexists, “deplorables,” and “semi-fascists) rather than problem-solving.
The key point is that all the name-calling and partisan narratives that Republicans are "racists” or “extremists” or that Trump is an “insurrectionist” do nothing to make the lives of the American people better. In fact, the Democrat obsession with narrative-creation testifies to their lack of actual solutions to problems. For if the Democrats ever actually started solving America’s problems, they would not need to fabricate fake narratives.
