The Patriot Post® · Justice Under Siege
Leftist protesters took to the streets of Washington, D.C., Sunday. They were there to mark the 50th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion on demand. That night, the pro-abortion mob returned to Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s home.
They carried symbols of the LGBTQ and pro-abortion movements. As they marched through Kavanaugh’s neighborhood, they chanted, “Cut his time short. A rapist should not rule the court.” “Freedom of religion means freedom from yours.” “No privacy for us, no peace for you.”
A female reporter covering the demonstration for a conservative outlet was harassed by the leftist marchers. They attempted to take her photo, and one threateningly said, “Don’t worry, we’ll see you soon enough.”
The judiciary is one of the three branches of government, and the Supreme Court is the head of that branch. This intimidation of conservative justices is occurring in blatant violation of federal, state and local laws.
But the same Biden Justice Department that is persecuting pro-life activists does not lift a finger to enforce the law to protect justices from pro-abortion intimidation and threats.
The marshals protecting Kavanaugh’s home were asked why they weren’t arresting protesters. They said the protesters had freedom of speech. When informed of the federal law that prohibits such demonstrations at justices’ homes, the marshals said that arrests would only escalate the situation.
I’m not nitpicking here. Once again, the double standard of justice is obvious and it undermines our constitutional republic.
If a group of demonstrators were carrying crosses and chanting slogans about threats to religious liberty outside the homes of Justices Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor and Ketanji Brown Jackson, they would likely be charged as “insurrectionists.”
Speaking of unhinged pro-abortion activists, steel yourself and then watch this video. I’m a big believer in miracles, and it would certainly take one to soften this young woman’s heart. But I doubt any act of love or kindness on our part is likely to change her mind anytime soon.
While changing hearts and minds is essential, we must also continue to work toward changing the law and saving as many innocent lives as possible.
Faith Under Fire
When a criminal discovers faith and accepts Jesus, that’s usually something to celebrate. Men and women who are changed by faith are less likely to fall back into a life of crime. But if you’re a radical secular atheist such conversions are cause for concern and anger.
Over the last four years, more than 300 inmates in the Decatur County, Indiana, prison system have embraced Christianity and were baptized. I’d love to see someone follow the lives of those individuals and report back a few years from now.
Unfortunately, the intolerant bigots at the Freedom From Religion Foundation aren’t celebrating these changed lives. In fact, they’re downright indignant and demanding that the faith-based programs in the prisons be shutdown.
For decades, we’ve been told that in deference to the child in the public school who is an atheist, school prayer had to be taken away for all children. In America, it’s “live and let live,” and that child shouldn’t be forced to hear a prayer.
Well, the Freedom From Religion Foundation is a left-wing atheist group. But there’s no “live and let live” with the left. No one is claiming that an atheist prisoner in Decatur County, Indiana, was forced to be baptized. The radical atheists just don’t want religion anywhere.
The left initially says that it just wants “tolerance and inclusion.” But it quickly starts making demands and forcing its values on the rest of us, like forcing men and women of faith to perform abortions, participate in same-sex marriages or changing a child’s gender without their parents’ knowledge.
The Great Debt Debate
As the conservative House majority prepares to stare down big spending Democrats in the Senate and the White House over the debt ceiling, a new poll suggests that the American people are demanding something other than “business as usual.”
The survey asked 1,000 registered voters how they thought Congress should handle the debt limit. Here are the results:
- 45% said raise the debt ceiling but couple it with spending cuts. (This is the general GOP position.)
- 24% said raise the debt ceiling without spending cuts. (This is Joe Biden’s position.)
- 16% said don’t raise the debt ceiling at all.
- 15% said they were unsure what to do.
That’s 61% taking the conservative approach to restrain spending versus 24% who support the bigger government, more spending liberal approach.
A Rasmussen poll found similar results: 56% of likely voters would support a partial government shutdown to force Congress to cut spending while only 34% prefer even more spending.
Targeting DeSantis
A controversy erupted last week in the Sunshine State when Florida officials rejected a proposed Advanced Placement course in African-American history. The course was full of left-wing, Marxist dogma, which is prohibited by state law.
For example, one section of the curriculum had students learning about “the concept of the queer of color critique, grounded in Black feminism and intersectionality, as a Black studies lens that shifts sexuality studies toward racial analysis.”
The course also required students to read a book that purportedly “examines in detail how Whites talk, think, and account for the existence of racial inequality and makes clear that color-blind racism is as insidious now as ever.” [Emphasis added.]
This is critical race theory on steroids. It rejects the teachings of Martin Luther King, Jr., as “insidious.” Florida Governor Ron DeSantis rightly rejected this extremely divisive material.
But just as they twisted the state’s popular Parental Rights In Education law, every left-wing media outlet immediately twisted the facts of this situation to smear Ron DeSantis as a bigot. Some literally accused him of being a fascist.
And from the White House podium, Biden’s press secretary led the charge, declaring, “Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.”
All the average American is hearing is that Ron DeSantis doesn’t want black children learning their history. It’s a disgusting lie, as Florida mandates the teaching of black history. But it demands that real history be taught accurately!
Sadly, I was talking to a young Christian recently who brought up DeSantis. She said, “I could never vote for him — he’s a racist.” There it is, folks.
Some will hear a story like this and conclude that only a moderate Republican can win in 2024. A moderate has zero chance of winning the White House. The left will label him a bigot too, but he won’t fight back.
The only chance we have to prevail is to nominate a fighter. Whether that’s Donald Trump or Ron DeSantis or someone else entirely, that’s up to GOP primary voters to decide.
But the bottom line is that we’re running out of time to save America from the neo-Marxist left. Any candidate we nominate must be able to take a punch (because the left will throw a lot of punches) and they must be able to hit back hard.
Real Russian Collusion
Charles McGonigal was arrested over the weekend. He’s charged with violating U.S. sanctions by working for Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska.
What makes McGonigal’s arrest especially noteworthy is that he is the former head of the FBI’s Counterintelligence Division in New York, making him one of the highest-ranking FBI officials in the nation when he retired in 2018.
Prior to that, McGonigal was a top counterintelligence agent in the FBI’s Washington, D.C. office, and one of the agents who launched the Russia collusion investigation into the 2016 Trump campaign, which we all know was a total hoax.
In fact, we eventually learned that former British spy Christopher Steele also once worked for Deripaska!
Clearly, Special Counsel John Durham still has a lot of unfinished work to do. Where is Durham anyway? Should a missing person’s report be filed?
