Bipartisan Support for Putting Cadillac Tax on Blocks

And Obama says Congress is gridlocked.

In March 2010, then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi famously said about ObamaCare, “We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it.” Well that thick fog has cleared a bit, and Pelosi, Sen. Harry Reid and company didn’t like what they found. According to The Hill, Democrat leadership is talking behind closed doors on repealing the “Cadillac tax’ provision of ObamaCare. The tax, due to hit in 2018, would target employer-provided health care plans the government deems too good for Americans to possess with a high tax designed to pay for the rest of the "Affordable” Care Act. While it’s a no-brainer why conservatives oppose the tax — chief Obama economic adviser Jason Furman said last month the tax “is perhaps the single biggest leverage we have on health costs in the private sector” — Democrats like Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders worry the tax will place a further burden on the middle class. It seems that Obama stands alone in defending this section of his signature legislation. And Obama says Congress is gridlocked.
