Students Reject American Exceptionalism

George Washington University students disparage our first president.

Is America exceptional? According to some students enrolled at George Washington University, the answer to that question is a resounding no. The Young America’s Foundation visited the campus recently to inquire about American exceptionalism. The results were alarming enough to impel our first president to turn in his grave.

The YAF website says, “Of the students who agreed to be interviewed, not a single one believed that America was an exceptional nation or that its heritage was anything special. Citing ‘Christopher Columbus and colonialism and westward expansion’ as negatives, students had very little if anything positive to say about the nation that has afforded them the right and ability to attend a $50,000/year school. Recent events have shown colleges and universities to be hostile to conservatives, free speech, and anyone or anything who does not mindlessly join the battle against the latest microaggression du jour.”

In 1788, George Washington said, “No country upon earth ever had it more in its power to attain these blessings than United America. Wondrously strange, then, and much to be regretted indeed would it be, were we to neglect the means and to depart from the road which Providence has pointed us to so plainly.”

And in 1784, he said, “The best means of forming a manly, virtuous, and happy people will be found in the right education of youth. Without this foundation, every other means, in my opinion, must fail.”

Sadly, and to his dismay, Washington had a harrowing foresight of America 2016.
