University: Don’t Say ‘Man Up’ or ‘You Run Like a Girl’

Man up, America.

Athletes at California State University in Chico are no longer allowed to tell a teammate to man up if they run like a girl. Those phrases are among many now considered inappropriate and downright offensive, according to a new educational campaign first reported by Campus Reform. The program is called “You Can Play” and it’s basically a way for the university’s athletic department to police what people say.

“The whole purpose of this campaign is to open people’s eyes and let them see what these words mean and how hurtful they can be,” said Haley Kroll, the co-president of the university’s student athletic advisory committee. Cal State Chico wants kids to know that, golly gosh darn-it, words and phrases can hurt people. “We want everyone to feel included, and we want our language to reflect that,” Kroll said.

So the athletic committee has been busy hanging posters all over campus featuring student-athletes urging people to avoid potentially offensive words and phrases. The posters feature a number of familiar words and phrases that are considered to be offensive and downright racist. But there are also some other unwelcome utterances:

  • I don’t say Like a Girl because gender has no limits.
  • I don’t say Man Up because it insinuates that women can’t be courageous.
  • I don’t say Coward because you can’t judge someone else by your own standards.

“I think this campaign will start much needed conversations about sensitive language and diversity issues,” campaign participant Dylan Wakefield told Campus Reform. The university fears that inappropriate words and impolite talk could potential damage the sensitive psyches and eardrums of fragile collegians. Remember that time I chuckled at the emotionally stunted millennial who ran like a girl to his safe space to avoid contracting a micro-aggression? Well, that kind of dinner table conversation is considered verboten at Cal State Chico. There’s also another phrase students have been cautioned against using:

  • I don’t say You’re a Failure because in order to be great, you have to understand how to fail.

In other words, losers are winners at Cal State Chico — even if they really are losers. It sort of makes you feel sorry for HR departments in Northern California. All of this politically correct nonsense has driven our nation’s public university systems slap crazy, folks. Man up, America.
