Reversing Course and Restoring Liberty
"The people of the U.S. owe their Independence & their liberty, to the wisdom of descrying in the minute tax of 3 pence on tea, the magnitude of the evil comprised in the precedent. Let them exert the same wisdom, in watching against every evil lurking under plausible disguises, and growing up from small beginnings." --James Madison

In Part 1 of this essay, "Breaking the Back of Free Enterprise," I noted, "Barack Hussein Obama's macro agenda to achieve his objective of "fundamentally transforming the United States of America," depends on the success of his plan to break the back of capitalism under the weight of national debt accumulation, and in the ensuing crisis, implement "emergency" government intervention which will, ultimately, replace the last vestiges of free enterprise with a democratic socialist framework (centralized economic planning and regulation with full-spectrum income redistribution). To avoid a total economic collapse under the burden of trillions of dollars in debt resulting from Obama's spending programs, the Left will implement dramatic tax increases and devalue the dollar (inflate the price of services and commodities)."
I then posited the question, "Is there still time to restore the primacy of Free Enterprise over Socialism before Obama and his Leftist ilk have broken the back of Capitalism?"
The short answer is yes. I believe there is still time to implement political solutions to reverse course and restore Essential Liberty, constitutional Rule of Law and its economic expression, free enterprise. But that window is closing.
There is an economic catastrophe on our horizon, (the Obama Plan), one whose full force will hit every American in a few years. The Left will exploit it this crisis, and insist that massive increases in taxation (income redistribution) and regulation of every economic sector is the solution, with the ulterior motive of centralization of the economy. This scenario will be modeled after Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal policies, but it will be so massive as to fully institutionalize Socialism on a national scale.
That's the bad news.
The good news is there exists an alternative solution, short of civil disobedience and revolution, to dispense with the Obama Plan. That solution is a revitalized national movement to restore constitutional integrity. That effort is now well underway bearing the Tea Party label -- not a political party, per se, but the advocacy of a set of principles to restore Rule of Law.
Obama and his ilk plan to exploit the economic crisis they are fabricating to "fundamentally change America," but Patriots can use that same crisis against Obama's agenda, for the purpose of enacting fundamental change to restore the authority and integrity of our Constitution.
Our success will require a groundswell of action in the next few election cycles, and the seating of a majority of legislators who have both a firm understanding of the principles of Essential Liberty and a willingness to enact the bold and difficult legislation necessary to restore constitutional Rule of Law.
The most important of these legislative measures are outlined in the Patriot Declaration. These include the enumeration of specific constitutional authority for any and every act of the legislature, its compliance with our Constitution's standard for Federalism, the Tenth Amendment, and a complete overhaul of our system of taxation.
In other words, the only way to undermine the Obama Plan is to reduce the size and scope of central government such that it comports once again with the plain language of our Constitution. In fact, this conversion to a government whose powers are, as our Constitution's principal author James Madison declared, "few and defined," will necessarily collapse its size.
However, our Constitution's prescription for central government authority and its proscription against exceeding that authority have been eroded for generations. It will thus take time to restore the Rule of Law, but restoration is the only option if our legacy of liberty is to be extended to future generations.
The alternative is, most certainly, tyranny.
The "Cycle of Democracy," attributed to 18th-century Scottish historian Alexander Tytler, follows this sequence: "From bondage to spiritual faith; From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty [Rule of Law]; From liberty to abundance; From abundance to complacency; From complacency to apathy; From apathy to dependence; From dependence back into bondage [rule of men]."
The consequences of complacency and apathy are, indeed, dependency and bondage.
The choice that all Americans face today was aptly described by Ronald Reagan in his timeless challenge to conservatives, "A Time for Choosing": "You and I are told we must choose between a left or right, but I suggest there is no such thing as a left or right, There is only an up or down. Up to man's age-old dream -- the maximum of individual freedom consistent with order -- or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism."
Now, as then, Leftists decry the Reagan model for restoration, cutting taxes to grow the economy, as "trickle-down economics." But the Reagan Plan resulted in the largest peacetime economic surge in American history.
To be sure, the Democrat-controlled legislature refused to enact the spending cuts Reagan called for, and this led to what were then record deficits. Those deficits, however, pale in comparison to the debt of the Obama Plan, which can only result in "trickle-up poverty."
Alexis de Tocqueville once observed, "Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word: equality. But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude."
Today, the once noble Democrat Party seeks only to forcibly reduce the people they pretend to serve to restraint and servitude.
In 1916, a minister and outspoken advocate for liberty, William J. H. Boetcker, published a pamphlet entitled The Ten Cannots, which fittingly contrasts the competing political and economic factions today: You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. You cannot build character and courage by taking away man's initiative and independence. You cannot help small men by tearing down big men. You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income. You cannot establish security on borrowed money. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they will not do for themselves.
It is a hard, undeniable truth that the federal government cannot give to anybody what it does not first take from somebody else, and the power to do so is ruinous. As Thomas Jefferson wrote, we must "prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people, under the pretence of taking care of them."
Further, the debt and taxation crisis we face today was a prospect of great concern to our Founders at the dawn of our Republic. In Jefferson's words, "Taxes should be continued by annual or biennial reenactments, because a constant hold, by the nation, of the strings of the public purse is a salutary restraint from which an honest government ought not wish, nor a corrupt one to be permitted, to be free. ... Would it not be better to simplify the system of taxation rather than to spread it over such a variety of subjects and pass through so many new hands. ... The fore horse of this frightful team is public debt. Taxation follows that, and in its turn wretchedness and oppression. ... We must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. ... I place economy among the first and most important of republican virtues, and public debt as the greatest of the dangers to be feared."
In 1824, Jefferson concluded, "I think we have more machinery of government than is necessary, too many parasites living on the labor of the industrious." What would he say today?
Our Constitution, and Rule of Law it was meant to ensure, has suffered great injury as a result of national complacency and apathy.
So we must once again choose.
Which will it be, freedom or totalitarianism, the Reagan Plan or the Obama Plan?
If we expect to bequeath liberty to our posterity, then we must dedicate our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor to uphold the primacy of free enterprise over socialism, to defend Essential Liberty and to restore constitutional Rule of Law.
Will enough conservatives be seated in Congress this election cycle to stop, or even reverse, the Obama agenda? Stopping, at the very least, is mandatory. Reversing, while a daunting challenge, is achievable and must be the sole focus of every Patriot in the coming election cycle.
Be assured, should we fail to rise to the current challenge, the terminus of the Obama Plan is tyranny.
So, fellow Patriots, in the words of Benjamin Franklin, "Resolve to perform what you ought. Perform without fail what you resolve."

As long as our schools(and journalism schools)don't teach American history but rather revisionist history, the election of candidates supporting constitutional governing will be difficult.
Thinking adults can understand, but it is difficult for many if they have never been exposed to the true history of our great country in school, universities and the press.
Thanks for your blog,

Obama's stimulus seems primarily to support union workers in state and federal jobs, unions in companies such as GM, unions in infrastructure projects, ad nauseum. Is it possible to calculate the amount of stimulus that went to unions vs the common worker? Ignore unemployment benefits and individual tax benefits as they were not targeted?

Great essay, Mark! This is one I will save, print out, forward to others, and re-read time after time.
My greatest concern is this country no longer has statesmen (including the ladies, of course). We no longer enjoy the concern and protection of LEADERS, who guide the Ship of State through the turbulent waters of national and international relations.
We were at one time, the most respected and feared country on the planet, having come so far in only 200+ years. From a backwater colony, subject to an absentee, insane king, to an independent, glowing "City on the Hill," as Ronald Reagan put it, full of promise and potential. We were the example for the rest of the world, "the noble experiment" setting the pace and the example for many new countries who desired their freedom from oppressors.
Now, we are the laughingstock of the world, headed up with career politicians who are out of touch with reality, having no clue whatsoever how to LEAD, to mold, to produce, and to grow this country.
I haven't yet given up. I'll still fight as long my fingers can still exert three pounds of pressure on a trigger...

I agree with what you say. However, the only permanant solution is a series of Constitutional Amendments such as the Bill of Federalism which will permanently shackle the Federal Government and it's minions. Legislators...even good ones...die or grow corrupt or indifferent. We must have a Constitutional Convention to eliminate the 16th Amendment, set term limits, force the Supreme Court to recognize the Constitution as a compact not a 'living document', define the Commerce Clause so as to prevent it's being used as a scourge and to bestow a line item veto on the President whenever the budget is not balance. "Resistance to tyrants is obedience to God."

Abraham Lincoln put it best when he said: "America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." Everyone fails with Socialism. If there is nothing great for which we can strive, why bother? How does no one see this? We absolutely need to get back to the fundamentals on which our nation was founded. Thank you for fighting the good fight!

My great concern with Barackracy is simply this:
In the past, even when our leaders, legislators, and judges have made grave mistakes that have eroded our constitutional principles, new leaders and our free enterprise economic engine have been able to overcome these attacks against the Godly principles upon which our country was founded.
But when Barack is finished wrecking our country and it's constitutional principles, there will not be enough left of our free enterprise economic engine to pull us out of the disaster he is creating, even with great new leadership!

Great article... again... thank you for your excellent work.
The coming problem is: 'supreme' court has supported the 2nd amendment by 5-4 votes in huge freedom issues twice now recently. The 'supreme' court justices will remove all of our freedoms as soon as it is a 4-5 majority which is just around the corner. All of these issues will be deemed constitutional in favor of the socialists / facists who are now running our government - potus, congress especially Democrat Party, supreme court, and czars.
The Domestic Enemies, including 'supreme' court justices, who continually vote against the Constitution as written should be tried for Treason - immediately !! Lord help US.

What a wonderful essay. Thank you for your pure patriotism. What we need in the coming election cycle is for men or women to step and and run on a platform of returning America to it's once great self. America has nothing to apologize for. So someone has to rally true patriots to the cause, the cause of freedom, the cause of Constitutional law, the cause of throwing off the socialistic agenda instituted by those forces who want to destry America from within. God bless you and as always God Bless the United States of America!!

Thank you for a really great article on a subject that should be in the minds of everyone in this country, while we have it in our power to keep it a great country to live in. If nothing is done to stop those that are trying to take us down, we will have nothing. I fail to understand the mind set of those in power, who are attempting to make us complete slaves of the government. I thought that slavery was done away with by the Civil War. This Nation ccme a long way after that, but the current people in Washington are hell bent on becomming slave drivers again. When they finish their agenda, the soup lines will be very long and the number of homeless will be atrocious. I guess I can be glad , but I feel sorry for all the people that will have to live through that which is comming. GOD help them.

When considering Mr. Obama & his policies/behavior, I'm reminded of the story of King Amaziah in II Chronicles 25. This particular king of Judah had gone to war and, with God's help, quite handily defeated the enemy. In a fit of "brilliance," Amaziah then brought back to Judah the enemy's idols & started worshipping them. The stupid part is that these false gods weren't strong enough to help the enemy, but Amaziah decided to worship them instead of the true God who had helped him.
In the same vein, America has become prosperous and mighty. In the ideological wars, our system of free enterprise won out against totalitarian regimes, both fascist & socialist. Yet, in our triumph, there are those who want to turn to the failed and foolish policies of foreign folly (sorry - couldn't resist the alliteration). I only wish Washington could follow a governmental model that worked, not one that has historically been proven to fail time and time again.

It's time for the American people to take back there country. If the only solution is to vote out of office every incumbent progressive, who voted with Obama on Health care, Stimulus plan, Card check and other programs being pushed by this leftist agenda-- that is what we must do. This may take serval elections to purge the system, but we will be headed in the right direction. In the interim we need to not fund any of the programs being implemented.

Somewhere just ahead is a tipping point...our job should be to define the direction of tip. And, should we do this right, the Constitution itself will conquer the enemies of Republican Governance, Free Enterprise, and, a free Citizenry...without resort to the Bullet Box. But, it is up to us to define what this looks like when the smoke of obfuscation blows away, and, the enemies of freedom are subdued.

The Rev. Boetcker’s Ten Cannots. “You cannot build character and courage by taking away man's initiative and independence.” A leadership principle used to advantage by the ChiCom’s during the Korean War. The ratio of guards to prisoners in U.S. POW camps was very high, but in enemy camps, the reverse was true. The minimal number was made possible by separating out all individuals showing any indication of leadership ability. The more the current regime can make us dependent on Washington, the greater the long term damage to our initiative and independence; the less the desire to “defend Essential Liberty and to restore constitutional Rule of Law.”

All else is to be left to the States, confirmed by Amendments 10 and 14. As for the "general welfare clause," James Madison intended that Congress spend money ONLY on those twelve duties which he considered to be the scope of "general welfare." Then, they were to adjourn, go home and leave "We, the People, alone! Your "plan" is tinkering for this or that personal advantage. It's the Constitution, stupid!

Probably this cartoon has been viewed many times by a number of patriots all steadfast and true; however, in light of Mr. Alexander's comment on the Obama Plan, I thought it a good idea to warn Patriot readers that the evil confronting us is nothing new. As Mr. Alexander says: "There is an economic catastrophe on our horizon, (the Obama Plan), one whose full force will hit every American in a few years.
That's the bad news."
It will be a difficult fight for we have all been distracted by the luxuries handed to us by our forefathers and for which we have not struggled. The good news is we can defeat this mortal enemy, this creeping socialism, by committing ourselves to the founding principles of this country which are stated in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

I’m reminded that in the 1770s much of the work that led to our War for Independence consisted of writers who intelligently and vigorously expressed their sound ideas. In large part their role was to educate the colonial population regarding the wrong-doing of the British Crown; these writers caused people to think.
The Patriot Post fulfills the same role today confidently teaching, exhorting, demanding that citizens vigorously uphold the principles of our founders. The message now, as then, is an urgent one.
I suspect that the task before us, of correcting our course, will be much more difficult and demanding than what faced our founders. We’ll see.

Thanks Mark! I am encouraged when I recall how quickly Reagan was able to right the course of our nation at a time when many held so little hope for recovery. I believe we can now do the same if we elect men and women of character, wisdom and understanding of the founding principles of this Nation.
I am troubled by the sense that Americans now may lack the insight that we did in the 1980's, and that we have allowed the ignorant masses to sustain themselves at the government trough for so long that they have lost their freedom without knowing it is gone. It could be argued that this socialist progressivism has created two classes - both of them slave to the state. Those of us that labor and produce for others - and those that live at the trough with no means or inclination to step away. It is a grim picture with only shades of gray that we now see coming into focus -- but I too believe that we can still restore the freedom, and liberty of real economic growth that "floats all boats" and breaks the chains of government dependence.
We must counter the distortions and misinformation of the left and their media minions. Theirs is a campaign of propaganda designed to build dependency and perpetuate the socialist state. We must have "Statesmen" with the courage to fight each attempt to empower Washington and extend the reach of the tax man. Our "Statesmen" must work to restore the power of State Legislatures in a Republic of United States. We need true Constitutional conservatives - not "one issue" candidates. Instead of "bringing home the bacon" - They must change law to make sure that the bacon never leaves our paychecks, and stays home where it belongs. If 10% is good enough for God, then Washington and each of our States can join the chorus for a - fair tax, not more tax!
This is our time. This is OUR struggle. Thanks again Mark - for giving us your voice - and ours - in the Patriot Post.

I agree, there is still time to save our great nation. The real question is will enough of the voting public recognize the problem and take action.
I believe the answer is no for a number of reasons. The liberal/socialist agenda has been ingrained in our society for too long. Our kids have been programed by our own school system stocked with liberal, gun grabbing Socialist teachers. Our media has taken sides with Socialism and keeps telling us Socialism is the way to go. If they say it long enough people will believe it is true. Our people have fallen away from a God based way of life and have worked hard to exclude God from our lives, society and nation any way they can. Too many in our great nation have become self centered and apathetic. There is no greater danger to our way of life than selfish apathy.
When you combine the programming of our kids, media bombardment, removing God(and support for Israel)from our society, wide spread apathy and a corrupt and self serving government you get a recipe for a Socialist/Communist disaster. Too many here in the US have been corrupted by an entitlement way of life and will not want to give that up.
Yes, the window is still open but I believe it will close before a civil solution is reached. I hope I am wrong, very wrong.

Our forefathers truy lived this and were the consumate students gleaned from their experiences. They knew the truth but we have lived for so long as benefactors of their efforts and given human nature we usually understandibly and sadly embrace lessons only learned through our own experiences thus squandering our gains.keep up this work the world depends on it God Bless...

Mr. McCue:
I read with enthusiasm your response and I am humbled, not because I consider myself smart or clever, but because like you I now realize how inadequate all our forefathers were to their task of "forging a new nation conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal." It is no mistake that honest statesmen and students of libery call the United States an ongoing expieriment in republican-democracy.
It is only once we adopt the vantage point of history that we see James Madison, Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Paine as being visionary. In their time they were framing a new nationational experiment based on ideas put forth by ancient and European philosphers. There is no way they could have seen that what they were writing would have an effect of producing the greatest economic engine the world has ever known.
An engine, I am quick to add, that is choking from the burdens placed on it by a runaway government.
Looking at the results of the efforts of those early patriots we can now see the legitimacy of their cause. It was not always so, and the people were not always behind them. Recall the difficult time Gen. Washington had just after Valley Forge and before he crossed the Delaware into New Jersey. Our advantage now is seeing the struggle patriots have waged for the freedoms we have com to take for granted. If we fail to take up our burden and protect the abilities given to us and defend those freedoms for out children, we will have served to extinquish that flame of freeedom lit 235 years ago.

No purely political solution will cure our Nation's ills. If we get on our knees and beg God to forgive us for our Nation's many sins, He will then send us good, moral leadership and we will save this Republic.
We can begin by asking everyone we communicate with to "Pray for America"!

Tig Dupre: Thanks, well said! The coment; quo warranto--pardon me, I do not discern your meaning. Quo--abbreviation for quote, I believe. Warranto--the o ending indicates Latin, there are several designs for the first letters--warrant--none of whic apply to your statement. Would you consider clarifying your point? Thank you

Not only do we need to read II Chronicles 7:14 EVERY DAY, we need to do so on our knees, with our friends and family and in our churches. Then, we need to go to the polls -- each and every one of us -- no excuses (I'm too tired, its raining, etc.). It is imperative to exercise our freedoms to protect our freedoms. Thank you for spelling it out.

The further we get down the road (re: Barackracy) I too fear that we are reaching a tipping point. However I do not feel that ANY politician has the steel to do what it takes. Between the media assassins and the race pimps they will be too fearful of being destroyed by left, truth be damned. I truly believe that it is going to take the Second American Revolution to right this ship. While bloodshed should always be the last resort, and it is probably at least a generation or two away, I don't see how we avoid it. Too many "parasites on the backs of the industrious" to count and too much apathy from the uneducated and educated alike. I fear for my children. At least it is somewhat comforting to know that there are those like yourself out there doing what they can every day. Keep it up and keep us strong...semper fidelis!

"The most important of these legislative measures are outlined in the Patriot Declaration. These include the enumeration of specific constitutional authority for any and every act of the legislature, its compliance with our Constitution's standard for Federalism, the Tenth Amendment, and a complete overhaul of our system of taxation."
I would love to add to this statement that:
1) Any propsed bill must be published in a public PRINT media, in the form which it will be voted on (i.e., no "11th hour ammendments"), a minimum of 2 weeks prior to a vote. That should help eliminate those 2000+ page bills. Our Constitution can be printed in a few pages of newsprint. So too should a proposed bill.
2) Each Congressman will be required to take a 20-question, multiple choice test concerning the proposed bill. They must score at least 80% on the test to be permitted to vote on it. If a Congressman fails (scores less than 80%) 3 or more tests, they will be removed from office (3 strikes, you're out). That should help encourage our elected representatives to actually read the bills, which will also help eliminate those 2000+ page bills when they actually have to read them.

Alexis de Tocqueville once observed, "Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word: equality. But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude."
I love it!
This sounds so much like Winston Churchill's famous 'tongue-in-cheek' quote: “The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries.”

I love the USA. I am the wife of a military officer. I weep for our country and am passionately patriotic. I have lived in the Middle East and in Europe. I know that America is a special, unique, and blessed place.
I believe that the following statement is true. "From bondage to spiritual faith; From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty [Rule of Law]; From liberty to abundance; From abundance to complacency; From complacency to apathy; From apathy to dependence; From dependence back into bondage [rule of men]."
If we are in bondage, what is our only recourse? Where do we go for liberty and abundance? Not to a ballot box. (Yes, please vote.) To our knees in repentance. See 2 Chronicles 7:11-22 and Psalm 71.
I read this today at: http://odb.org/2010/07/19/hope/
"Many claim to have hope, but only those whose hope is Christ can claim it with certainty. Hope comes not from strength, intelligence, or favorable circumstances, but from the Lord. As Maker of heaven and earth, He alone has the right to promise hope and the power to keep the promise."
Our strength and hope is in the Lord—
We rest secure in His sure Word;
And though we’re tempted to despair
We know we’re kept within His care. —D. De Haan
Lord turn our hearts to You. For You are our only Hope.

The plan might work if, and only if, we take over the Republican party and send into the wilderness the Republican oligarchs who have constantly denigrated Reaganism. Latest blurb from that paragon of conservatism Trent Lott re: fear of the Tea Party amongst the Republican elite? I say the Tea Party and true conservatives must take the party by the stacking swivel and turn out these faux conservatives once and for all. Let them join the democrats or forever wander in the political wilderness.

In all the debate swirling around about the efficacy of governmental spending, I often hear an advocate say the taxation reduces private employment. Unfortunately, I have yet to hear an explanation of how that works. If no one explains the process, the uninformed will not be persuaded. So, how does taxation "kill" jobs?
Government siphons money from the taxpayers to help “solve” our national budgetary problems. FDR reportedly solved the Great Depression by spending. Of course that “teaching” is false. So, here is my reckoning of the mechanics.
The first part is obvious; taxes necessarily reduce taxpayer income. With fewer dollars, taxpayers cannot spend as much. So, the taxpayers do not buy the goods and services they would have purchased if taxes had not been extracted. And this is the key: taxpayers' purchasing power is reduced so those who would have produced what the taxpayers would have purchased, lose their jobs as businesses reduce staffing to match the reduced economic demand; that is it. If that simple fact is repeated over and over, the public may finally understand that taxing and spending create a net loss. And that is why we can never (never say never) spend ourselves into prosperity.
Unfortunately, the lost jobs are unaccounted and scattered across the country while the "benefits" government transfers are concentrated for all to see, and for the uninformed to marvel over.
"Stimulating the economic pump" is sometimes used as a justification for deficit spending; unfortunately, the “pump” analogy is sophistry masquerading as truth. Sometimes, priming (i.e., filling the well casing and the pump with water to remove an air gap) may be required to start drawing water from a well. But, government does not have to prime the economic pump by spending; government readily reaches deeply into the "well" (i.e. taxpayer funds) without “priming.”
An analogy closer to the truth about large erratic deficit spending is more like an irrigation system, drawing cool water from an aquifer and spraying it onto a vast desert, only to watch it evaporate as fast as "stimulus" money.

After reading everything above not once did I see mentioned that it is not so much Obama that we should be watching but the ones that put him in office.

I have long believed that the two most pernicious Constitutional Amendments were the 16th (income tax) and 17th (direct election of Senators).
The income tax is unavoidable and non-discretionary because people and businesses need income. That creates a sinecure for Congress to spend with no restraint. What if, instead, Congress was dependent on a national sales tax, dependent on discretionary spending (with anti-regressive exemptions for necessities like food and clothing)? Every week's collections would serve as an instant referendum on the doings inside the beltway.
Similarly, if the legislatures chose their Senators, senatorial elections would be much less vulnerable to being bought by interests outside the state. And state legislatures would choose Senators with benefits to their own states in mind.
The way to break the socialist grip on the economy is by starvation, i. e., deprive the Federal government of revenue guaranteed by the income tax.

Sorry Brian, You forget that the govt gets money when money moves. It need not tax the source.
The govt dopes not need the income tax. It never did. You cannot tax the people of the revenue that makes jobs, and spending, where the govt loses out on those taxes by taking the source. Without that source, it has to increase taxes more and more until there are no jobs and few to tax, so they have to print fiat money, thereby bankrupting the entire country. Like Obamas crew has done.
If the govt, when spending OUR money were required to spend it in the US with American companies, we would have more than enough to pay the bills. Instead of bailouts, spend it on our failing infrastructure, that make more jobs, and people spending money which the govt gets a piece.
The solutions are simple, and trickle-up poverty is all we are getting. Handouts do not induce productivity, and without productivity we are doomed.
