Race Bait Reality Check

· Thursday, July 22, 2010

"We have seen the mere distinction of color made in the most enlightened period of time, a ground of the most oppressive dominion ever exercised by man over man." --James Madison
Obama's Race-Card Playbook

You know things are going well when your political opponents resort to the lowest form of Demo-goguery -- race baiting.

Barack Obama has portrayed Tea Party Patriots as a gang of malcontents "waving their little teabags" and to ignorant for "a serious conversation." His Senior White House Adviser David Axelrod adds, "Any time that you have severe economic conditions, there is always an element of disaffection that can mutate into something that's unhealthy."

Such undignified characterizations notwithstanding, Obama and his Leftist cadres are clearly concerned that an enlightened grassroots movement to restore Rule of Law will undermine their Socialist agenda.

Last week, Obama surrogates at the National Association to Agitate Colored People (NAACP) took over the effort to stir that pot. The NAACP calculus is simple: If they can coerce the Tea Party into defending itself against spurious charges of racism, they distract the movement from focusing on the abject failure of Barack Obama's policies.

NAACP president Ben Jealous warned, "The danger of the Tea Party is that people see them and think about periods in history when groups like them were much more powerful than they are now, and so a lot of what we spend energy doing is explaining to people what reality is, and that the reality is that the majority from 2008 still exists. ... What we take issue with is the Tea Party's continued tolerance for bigotry and bigoted statements. The time has come for them to accept the responsibility that comes with influence and make clear there is no place for racism and anti-Semitism, homophobia and other forms of bigotry in their movement."

Jealous and his hooligans went on to officially condemn the movement as "a threat to the pursuit of human rights, justice and equality for all" because of its "the racist elements."

Perhaps by "racist elements," Jealous was alluding to the fact that almost 25 percent of Tea Party participants are racial minorities? Of course not.

Vernon Parker, an Arizona Tea Party congressional candidate who is a black, offered this rejoinder: "The NAACP should be concerned about bringing jobs to people in depressed areas. Not the Tea Party."

South Carolina conservative congressional candidate Tim Scott, who is also a black, added, "I believe that the NAACP is making a grave mistake in stereotyping a diverse group of Americans who care deeply about their country and who contribute their time, energy and resources to make a difference."

Ward Connerly, founder of the American Civil Rights Institute, concludes, "[R]ace is the engine that drives the political Left. In the courtrooms, on college campuses, and, most especially, in our politics, race is a central theme. Where it does not naturally rise to the surface, there are those who will manufacture and amplify it. Such is the case with the claims that the 'Tea Partiers' are a bunch of racists... I am convinced beyond any doubt that all of this is part of the strategic plan being implemented by the Left in its current campaign to remake America."

Not to be outdone by the NAACP, that erstwhile protagonist of race-baiting mischief, the "Reverend" Al Sharpton, claimed, "The Tea Party, as a political philosophy, is to reverse what civil rights did and that is saying the federal government must protect people. There clearly are some racial leaves in their tea bag, but this is not just about race. It is about how you see government."

Sharpton, who has retained his official media celeb race-card status despite having fabricated the notorious Tawana Brawley rape hoax, is now treated with the same admiration as the "Reverend" Jesse Jackson, he of the Jew-baiting "Hymies" and "Hymietown" comments.

But perhaps the most influential purveyor of this sort of racism is the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, who recently emerged from hiding to assert that Tea Party opposition to Obama's agenda is based on their hatred for "people of color."

Why is Wright the most influential of the race hustlers? He was Obama's religious mentor, an inexorable and unapologetic propagator of afrocentric liberation theology and its message of black supremacist doctrine and "social gospel" Marxism.

Wright officiated at Obama's wedding, baptized his daughters and is credited by Obama for the title of his book, "The Audacity of Hope." In that book, Obama describes Wright as the "vessel carrying the story of a people into future generations and into a larger world."

What story did that "vessel" teach Obama?

In Wright's own words, "The government lied about inventing the HIV virus as a means of genocide against people of color. The government gives [black people] drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strikes law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, g-d d--- America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people. G-d d--- America for treating our citizens as less than human. G-d d---- America for as long as she acts like she is god and she is supreme."

Wright calls America "the US-KKK-A" and says the nation is "controlled by and run by rich white people. Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run. We believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in god. And. And-and! God! Has got! To be sick! Of this sh-t!"

In an ridiculous attempt to compare Obama to Jesus, Wright said, "Barack knows what it means to be a black man living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich white people."

Recall how Obama responded to video evidence of his mentor's black supremacist rants: "It sounds like he was trying to be provocative. ... This is somebody who I have known for 20 years [who] led me to Christ. He is a biblical scholar. He is a well-regarded preacher and somebody who is known for talking about the social gospel. ... [Wright is] like family to me."

The racist Reverend Wright has also been a featured speaker at NAACP events, spouting the same messages as has fellow racist Islamist cleric Louis Farrakhan. So before Ben Jealous lectures Tea Party Patriots about their "continued tolerance for bigotry and bigoted statements," he ought to pay more attention to his own organization.

Of course, Leftmedia types propagate accusations of racism by Obama's race-card cutouts. According to political science professor Jim Campbell from the State University of New York, "[M]edia have been successful in [playing the race card]. You have people now talking about the tea party and others in terms of this race issue, and that in itself deflects from what the tea party people are really concerned about, which is out-of-control federal spending and excessive intrusion of government. To the extent that the press, even by suggesting that race is an issue, if it gets everybody talking about the tea party in those terms, they have been successful."

For the record, racism is thriving in some American sub-cultures and movements, but the Tea Party is not one of them.

I also make a larger point -- that the Democrat Party has thoroughly institutionalized racial segregation by co-opting black America as one of its most loyal constituencies. Indeed, an unprecedented 93 percent of black voters, like so many lemmings, march in lockstep to their Democrat masters.

But, in the rhetorical style of Jesse Jackson, the message of race they embrace is a disgrace. The Democrats have replaced the chains of chattel slavery with the chains of welfare and entitlement slavery.

From the Lincoln Memorial in 1963, the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. proclaimed, "I have a dream that my children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." However, Leftists race-based policies such as "Affirmative Action" are precisely designed to judge by the color of their skin rather than the content of their character.

In 2008, Martin Luther King III declared, "race relations clearly will be advanced ... because of President-elect Obama."

Unfortunately, he was probably referring to "advancement" in the NAACP sense. And if so, he was correct.

NAACP president Ben Jealous warned,". ... What we take issue with is the Tea Party's continued tolerance for bigotry and bigoted statements. The time has come for them to accept the responsibility that comes with influence and make clear there is no place for racism and anti-Semitism, homophobia and other forms of bigotry in their movement." You can take "homophobia" off your list Mr. Jealous. There is no "phobia" involved in straight people rejecting homosexuals. What we do experience is "homonausea" . . . a retching sensation caused by an overpowering aversion to sexual perversion!

I will submit that Obama's agenda is not Socialist, but, fully and truly Islamic !

At the present time, our country is being brainwashed about racism as a way of dividing the populous against one anotheer. It is no more than a new application of the old "divide and conquer" strategy of waging war. Islam is slowly and surely taking over the thinking of many of our politicians. They fully believe that they are promoting diversity in the U.S. by allowing many of these socialist agendas to prevail. Some pol's believe that they are fomenting socialism when in fact, they are just playing into the hands of Islam!

At no time in our history has the gov't been promoting racial divides such as this administration is doing! White's and blacks cannot allow this leadership to continue to pursue racial division as it has been if we are to survive.

SURVIVE!!!

"Why is Wright the most influential of the race hustlers?"

He is not. In fact, the most powerful race hustlers are the members of the Congressional Black Caucus and Hussein Obama. However, everyone seems to be afraid to mention them. WHY?

Tea Party has racists. One called me a nigger. Immigration is the big lie? people from from England and Europe are the real immigrants the real title of your e-mail blogs should be Immigrants Post not Patriot Post. No one asked your relatives to go home, when they came over. In about a year you again will be the true minorities be very careful how you treat people because your children maybe married to them and your grandkids will never respect you. They will call you crazy, immoral and have you committed. My guess is that your not man or woman enough to post this comment.

Dear Jose, Brilliant commentary, really, adroit too! I suspect your accusation is as authentic as that of the NAACP. Regarding the first generation of my family who arrived (legally) in the U.S., they were Irish, and WERE told to go back where they came from. I would suggest you stop drinking the Demo Kool-Aid, but then, "my guess is that your not man or woman enough."

At seventy-six years of age, male, white, married, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, I checked my attitude this morning and I am still not prejudiced against anyone because of the color of his or her skin and never have been. I am white because my parents were white, although "white" does not describe accurately what my skin color is, and it is not white, any more than black describes the shade of color the individuals really are that label themselves "black." I was taught that neither black nor white were colors, as a youth. As I said, I have never been prejudiced against anyone because of the color of their skin but if this "racist" lunacy persists, I will become prejudiced because I am tired of hearing the black crybabies belabor their fate. They are deliberately trying to fuel race riots and cause divisions in our nation and it has to be stopped and now! Obama, with his prissy sermonette speeches is never going to step up to the plate and tell the blacks that he was elected to represent all of the people, not just the blacks, the unions, the gays, the hispanics and other minority groups who supported him in 2007 and 2008. Further, while we are cleaning house, why don't we tell the Liberal/fringe media to report what is happening in the world accurately and without prejudice themselves, which would go a long way in healing our problems both economically and emotionally.

Listen, it is time to take this to the next level. Anytime these hooligans start the racial disparity and inequality scam just get on with a better argument. Race? Sure! I'll race ya! After all that is what it all boils down to getting ahead! Go for it. We'll start at the beginning and I will fairly race anyone anywhere. The color of your skin does not matter how fast you travel. Ready... set...

The Scarlet Pimpernel

This cannot be quoted too often:

"There is (a) class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs — partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs. … There is a certain class of race-problem solvers who don't want the patient to get well, because as long as the disease holds out they have not only an easy means of making a living, but also an easy medium through which to make themselves prominent before the public."

What Obama and the Democrats are doing is creating the "new plantation"! The Democrats have been doing this for years. The only problem is that the new plantation is going to include everyone: black, white, yellow and red. We will all be slaves if the liberals get their way! Do black people think that this is a great idea? Most of them do not even realize what is going on. If this country is that bad, they all need to look at black Africa and be thankful that they live here instead of there!

I must take exception to your mention of BHO's failed policies. I am scared to death because he is succeeding beyond anyone's wildest dreams.

He has taken over corporations and banks, assumed government control of the health care system and financial sector of the economy.

If he were to push through the cap-and tax measur pending in the Senate the government will own the means of production in totality.

May God protect us from any further success on the part of Mr. Obama. Our country may not recover if he continues on this path for even two more years.

Me thinks that some at the NAACP should be reading more of the bible.

""And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto Him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, They say unto Him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses in the Law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest Thou?"

"This they said, tempting Him, that they might have to accuse Him."

"But Jesus stooped down, and with His finger wrote on the ground, as though He heard them not. So when they continued asking Him, He lifted up Himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. And again He stooped down, and wrote on the ground."

"And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst."

"When Jesus had lifted up Himself, and saw none but the woman, He said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? Hath no man condemned thee?"

"She said, No man, Lord."

"And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more." (John 8:2-11 KJV)

Jose,

Sorry the Libs got to you. I wish Conservs could have helped you avoid the brainwash. It's not too late. Regarding name calling, I'm sure there are some people in the Tea Party who are racist. Statistically, there has to be. Some are intelligent, some are stupid. However, the Party can't be classified as a whole unless their agenda or actions justify it. One person does not a party make (or two people, or three ...). Please stick to the issues and the FACTS. Where is the unarguable truth behind these slanderous attacks on the Tea Party? You can surely bet the Libs would publish FACTS to support their baseless arguments, it they had some.

Immigration is not a lie. Europeans immigrated to the US, legally, and still do. Unless you are an American Indian, your ancestors immigrated to the US at some time. Hopefully, legally. Also, when immigrating, they became Americans, not just by title, but by "heart". They saw the blessing the Creator bestowed upon them when they saw Lady Liberty in the New York harbor. They were free to pursue their lifetime dreams, something we 2nd, 3rd, 4th ... generation Americans sometimes take too much for granted. They adapted to the American culture and helped to influence it by being a part of the "melting pot". They learned to speak English.

The illegal immigration issues of today are so much different. They are here illegally. They don't care about being "American", except by title only because it benefits them financially. They don't speak English, and are not the least bit concerned about being part of the "melting pot" that is America. They are parasites feeding off the Americans. They are dangerous, and it's getting worse.

I just want to remain an American, and maintain the American culture. We have issues and problems, but we can solve them as Americans. I don't care if you are black/white/Christian/atheist/blue/short/tall/male/female/rich/poor....... If you're a true American (by title and heart), then you are my patriotic brother. Let's work together to keep this a great country, working together for the common cause of Liberty, and working out differences like sane, moral, resonable adults. If you aren't a true American or don't want to be, then get the hell out or we will kick your behind out with an American sized boot.

Many people have died for the priviledge I have of voicing my opinion. Many have fought, suffered and died so that I can keep voicing and keep enjoying my American freedom and chasing my dreams. I will NOT let that sacrifice be in vain. "Give me liberty, or give me death." If you want my liberty, you better come with a force because I have an American boot that will kick anyone who tries to take me out of America, or America out of me.

I am an American to the bone. I have friends that are likewise. Some black, white, yellow, brown, male, female, rich, poor, big, small, .... I would do almost anything for them. But, I know some who are also parasites. They don't speak English, keep tight their "home" culture, don't adapt, don't contribute, don't "melt", and often speak badly about American culture and politicians. I ask them, "why are you here?". Their reply, "my country has corrupt regime and we are poor. Here, I own party store and am more money".

God Bless America

I have been very tired, for a very long time, of the way the government, local, state and fed, have all embraced the programs like Affirmative Action, and Quotas, and all the rest. They are programs that are the very definition of Racism..., favors are given, decisions are made, based on the color of one's skin, IF THAT AINT RACISM, WHAT THE HELL IS???????

I have personally been screwed out of things because I am white..., in 1971 it was Graduate School..., I actually got letters from Universities I applied to asking me if I was a member of a minority group, and if I was they would accept me into their program, but if I wasn't, they couldn't because of the Quotas they had to meet.

Then on 3 occasions over the years since, I have been screwed out of jobs I was the best qualified for, but could not get because I was white.

The only time I whined about the unfairness of all of this is like right now, as I type this. Not really a whine, just a comment.

I acted in the American Way of accepting the set backs, fair or not, and moving on. I am sick of the crybaby minorities..., and the way the authorities always kiss their asses.

There is an old saw among lawyers: "When the facts are on your side, pound on the facts. When the law is on your side, pound on the law. When neither is on your side, pound on the table and call the other fellow a scoundrel."

Having neither the facts nor the law on their side, the liberals are pounding on the table and calling the other fellow a "racist." They are fully aware that the charge is specious and don't care. They use this pejorative to try to isolate their enemy and motivate and unite their base.

I am sick and tired of hearing the race card be thrown around. The only reason that “racism” still exists in our society is because of men and women like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. They make their living pushing racism and hate. Why is it ok for them, but not for any other radical with a bed sheet over his head screaming the same message just a different race? It is a shame that we have to always defend any decision based on race. We also elected a president based on race, because surely no one believed his pack of lies. I am frustrated that we as a nation cannot move forward and better our society and our government instead of in-fighting over race. Enough is truly enough!

Reading your post in regard to the race baiting, and I must say that I take issue with how you wrote out the meaning of the letters NAACP. To wit: National Accociation to Agitate Colored People.

Now if I were a member of the NAACP, I might find that offensive and might want to respond in kind. In my humble opinion, things like this don't make matters better, it only makes them worse.

How would you feel if someone called this organization Patriotic Pricks or something?? Would you not find that offensive?? Maybe i'm being too sensitive, but I think you should take another look before you post these things.

Thank you,

Fitz, In the inimitable words of John Adams, "Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclination, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence." The facts are supported by the evidence...the NAACP is not so much about "advancement" as it is about "agitation." Now, stop being so sensitive!

Every day we read more complaints about how bad the Tea Party people are. Our poor excuse for a President has even accused the Tea Party Patriots of being "terrorists"! Well, I have to say this:

I am a white, legal citizen, devoted Christian, senior woman who is proudly a member of the Tea Party, because I love my country and see it being brain washed and led into a situation not of our want! I assure you, I am not a terrorist, nor a racist, but I am also not the most patient person in the world, either! So, how about ceasing all the trouble making and lying and underhanded acts and get back to being the America the world has been trying to emulate or get to for many years! You people who don't like it here, feel free to leave ASAP! Just quit your "bitchin'" and get on with being a true American. Come in legally from all countries of the world, learn to speak the language, stop sucking off the others who are doing their jobs by working and paying taxes to support you, and all the rest that comes with assimilating into your new chosen country! I don't care what color you are, earn your keep and be grateful you can live in this free country....before it is taken away from all of us by this illegal, Islamic idiot in the White House and his followers! God Bless America, and REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER! In God We Trust!

To Mr. Havens,

I understand your point. However, consider this: The NAACP is not about advancing colored people, it's about leftist ideology. Only. They advance only certain colored people, those who also believe leftist ideology hook, line and sinker. They hate colored people who are conservatives. Those folks are uncle toms, traitors, etc (see Clarence Thomas, Condoleeza Rice, Thomas Sowell, et al). Patriot Post is treating that organization as a political party, parodies and all, because that's all it is. Just like the Natl Organization for Women. That's not about women at all, only about leftist ideology.

I personally like the way Rush describes these folks, the NAALCP: Natl Assoc for the Advancement of LIBERAL Colored People. But the Patriot Post has it right, too. It's not further race baiting to point it out, it's liberal baiting!

Early in 2007 when Barack Obama's name surfaced as a possible candidate for the Democrat Party, I researched the Trinity United Church of Christ and its former minister Rev. Jeremiah Wright. I saw clearly that the beliefs of that congregation were the tenets of the Nation of Islam. Their website then stated support for the Black values system, support for candidates who advance the Black values system, support for Africa, and so forth. (capitalization of the word "Black" was TUCC's - not mine) No one asked Obama about his church's lack of expressed support for the United States of America or compared their theology to the theology of the Nation of Islam. Why?

Discrimination is beautiful - if done for the right purpose and with the right attitude. A gardener has a beautiful garden and valuable produce when he discriminates against weeds and insects that try to dominate and eat his vegetables. Likewise, in America we could have a beautiful Constitutional Republic, peaceful diversity of races and skin color from black to white, and "culture of life" if we would discriminate against all who oppose freedom, normal marriage, conception-birth process, decent education and the Biblical moral standards that God gave us through the efforts of our Founders gave us over 230 years ago. Have a wonderful free American day, be militant in a good natured way.

Fitzhugh,

It sounds like they are just calling an apple an apple. It's not offensive to me when something is called out in honesty, and, which isn't even derogatory: "tending to lessen the merit or reputation of a person or thing; disparaging; depreciatory". How does that lessen the NAACP, they do themselves through their own words and actions much better. The Presidents name is "BEN JEALOUS"?

Also, one would have to have proof to call the editors of the Patriot Post "Patriot Pricks":

"Slang: Vulgar .

a. penis.

b. an obnoxious or contemptible person."

That would be subjective and very hard to prove, and quite derogatory.

I could give you sooo many other euphamisms for the NAACP that are untruths and derogatory, but the Patriot Post called the NAACP just what they are...agitators of their constituents.

If guilt drove many people to vote for BHO as a way to atone for racism, I'd advise them to seek Jesus Christ. Confess your sin, all of it, ask forgiveness from the One who died for all, and enter into the family of God. Christ Paid In Full for all our sins on the cross, and when you belong to His family your guilt is taken away forever. Then you can think straight in love and justice, as God does, and wishes all men would.

Since radical liberals decided to infiltrate Tea Party meetings and try to make the Tea Party look racist, I decided to do the same thing back to liberals. I showed up at the local NAACP meeting, and because I am white they looked at me funny and mentioned that I probably had the wrong place, but they let me stay. They started going over the minutes of the last meeting when I piped up in my best Al Sharpton impersonation, "Kill Whitey!"

The room got deathly quiet, before finally, the chorus of "amen!" came from around the auditorium.

[quote]Perhaps by "racist elements," Jealous was alluding to the fact that almost 25 percent of Tea Party participants are racial minorities? Of course not.[/quote]

Can anyone find a link to this stat?

I see red whenever I see the "I have a dream" speech credited to MLK. It was plagiarized almost word for word from a speech given by Archibald Carey on the floor of the 1952 Republican National Convention.

Not that is isn't a powerful speech, I just like to see credit given where credit is due.

When the NAACP speaks about responsibility I practically choke. How about preaching responsibility to the black males who are having multiple children with multiple women and not supporting any of them. How about preaching responsibility to the black population which makes up about 13% of the total US population but commits greater than 70% of the crimes (Arrest data: FBI, Crime in the United States, 2001(USGPO, 2002), p. 252. FBI, Crime in the United States, 2002 (USGPO, 2003), p. 252. FBI, Crime in the United States, 2003). The race card is getting really old, really fast. Anyone who lives in a large city can tell you where the responsibility speeches need to be directed. I personally refuse to be called a racist because I speak the truth.

If you want to understand the real BHO, read "Mein Kampf" by Adolf Hitler. If you want to understand what the progressives, funded by foreign nationals and home-grown morons, read "The End of America" by Naomi Wolf. Even though Ms. Wolf wrote about the liberties American Citizens lost during the Bush-Cheney war years, don't think for a minute that the little hitler in the white house won't advance those tactics and ends. Understand, America, that the communists/fascists will do ANYTHING to steal and secure their power base, be prepared to sacrifice everything to get your country back. Or lose it forever. The choice is totally ours.

Who would have ever thought it, even 5 years ago. The new face of race supremacy that is the Ku Klux Klan and neo Nazism is alive and well from the White House too the NAACP and even into the once sanctified edifice of America's churches, pastored by the likes of Jeremiah Wright, once of the Grand Cyclops, and Ben Jealous, the Grand Wizard.

This time the cards have been turned on whitey, or so they think. What took Martin Luther King and Company much blood, sweat and tears, along with the ultimate sacrifice is being turned back to the bad old days of Jim Crow, but with a black face.

It won't take whites long to ressurect old feelings of fear that kept blacks down all these many years, thanks to Bam & Company. The rip tide may just turn back on the race baiting haters that is the American Negro, who may have to get used to being called Niggers once again. Tragic . . . yes thanks to the new KKK and neo Nazi minstrals.

To Alexander: You might want to check out a popular black speaker at the Tea Party rallies in Atlanta. His name is Herman Cain, and he's contemplating a run against Obama! You might find something on him in World Net Daily, as they have written about him.

You know, there are many people preaching for the impeachment of our great president to shortstop the damage he has done and his violations of the Constitution. Problem is they do not know that the law requires impeachment charges to be tried by Congress. Anybody taking bets on how the trial would come out with the Constitutional dimwits on the hill ??

Ed Sackett: “I see red whenever I see the ‘I have a dream’ speech credited to MLK. It was plagiarized almost word for word from a speech given by Archibald Carey on the floor of the 1952 Republican National Convention.”

I think you should more accurately check your facts and sources before making allegations such as this. I have cited and included the URL for two assessments (there are many more) on the similarities between the Reverend Archibald Carey’s 1952 speech and that of the Reverend Martin Luther King’s 1963 speech. If you can, please cite your reference.

Similarities to other speeches

Approximately twenty percent, the last two minutes, of King's historic speech bears a resemblance to a speech delivered in 1952 at the Republican National Convention by Reverend Archibald Carey, Jr., a personal friend of King's. Many, however, believe that the similarities are so slight that they do not come close to the level of plagiarism.

Speeches

The closing passage from King's famous "I Have a Dream" speech partially resembles Archibald Carey, Jr.'s address to the 1952 Republican National Convention. The similarity is that both speeches end with a recitation of the first verse of Samuel Francis Smith's popular patriotic hymn "America" (My Country ’Tis of Thee), and the speeches share the name of one of several mountains from which both exhort "let freedom ring".

Keith Miller, in Voice of Deliverance: The Language of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Its Sources and elsewhere, argues that such "borrowing", which he terms "voice merging", follows in a long tradition of folk preaching, particularly in the African-American church, and should not necessarily be termed plagiarism. On the contrary, he views King's skillful combination of language from different sources as a major oratorical skill.

Webster's defines Bigot: "one obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his own church, party, belief, or opinion."

Obstinacy is stubbornness, according to the same authority.

Stubborn devotion to the cause of racial distinction appears to me to be the defining characteristic of the NAACP. So who are the bigots, really?

Mark, well said and timely given all of the talk in the media about racism. How I wish your words could be played in a loop on one of the cable news networks. People need to hear (or read)an honest and true comparison rahter than hear 2 people trying to argue their points over the top of each other. Thank you for being a true journalist, there are so few of you left!

I find it interesting that the NAACP, President Obama, HHS Secretary and former AZ Gov. Napolitano, and Atty. Gen. Holder at the Social Justice Dept. all made statements condemning the Arizona SB1070 Illegal Immigrant law because "it might contain the potential for racial profiling" prior to having actually read the bill.

Yet has anyone heard a word from any of them about the potential for racial profiling in Affirmative Action? Isn't racial profiling what Affirmative Action is all about?

Henry L. Homrighaus Jr.

Considering their founding and the fact that whites not black are responsible for their success it would seem that they are the racist and ungrateful to boot.

The NAACP was formed in response to the 1908 race riot in Springfield, capital of Illinois and birthplace of President Abraham Lincoln. Appalled at the violence that was committed against blacks, a group of white liberals that included Mary White Ovington and Oswald Garrison Villard, both the descendants of abolitionists, issued a call for a meeting to discuss racial justice. Some 60 people, only 7 of whom were African American (including W. E. B. Du Bois, Ida B. Wells-Barnett, and Mary Church Terrell), signed the call, which was released on the centennial of Lincoln's birth. Echoing the focus of Du Bois's militant all-black Niagara Movement, the NAACP's stated goal was to secure for all people the rights guaranteed in the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments to the United States Constitution, which promised an end to slavery, the equal protection of the law, and universal adult male suffrage, respectively.

The NAACP established its national office in New York City and named a board of directors as well as a president, Moorfield Storey, a white constitutional lawyer and former president of the American Bar Association. The only African American among the organization's executives, Du Bois was made director of publications and research and in 1910 he established the official journal of the NAACP, The Crisis. With a strong emphasis on local organizing, by 1913 the NAACP had established branch offices in such cities as Boston, Massachusetts; Kansas City, Missouri; Washington, D.C.; Detroit, Michigan; and St. Louis, Missouri.

Ugh. This is why bretbutt and faux news are being prosecuted and sued. Whatnthe intended to do, get back at the NAACP ended up coming home to roost. Breitbutt kkk, Ann Cowlter rapid pit bull, Megyn plastic surgery Kelly, Sarah ma jaw palin, BachMan, Rand runny Mouth Paul, Wilhelm . . . Shall I name more . . . All lived up to the TParty nut loon reputation.

Thank God for Sharrod. Atleast the NAACP, USDA, US Gov and ironically a few a fox like O Reilly, Seth, and surprisingly Beck condemned and apologized. There is hope.

Keep it up. All the way to election time. And if ya cant get it together, Stormfront or David Duke will come to your rescue.

you're kidding, right? The tea party is endorsing a write in candidate in AR that is a white supremacist and has stated that he doesn't think non whites should live in this country. No one is saying that all tea partiers are racist but when Tom Tancredo calls for literacy tests to disenfranchise voters and gets loud cheers it is disheartening. Mark Williams wrote a vile letter implying what a great gig slavery was, they got three squares a day and didn't have to do real work. Because you know how those coloreds are, they were just freeloading off of the massa. They want to take the country back to the 19th century. They started a tax revolt when taxes are the lowest they have been in 50 years. The tea party would have more credibility if they made sense.

Anytime a left-wing racer infects a God fearing authentic patriotic web blog comment's section the obvious is so repugnantly clear.

The race-baiter's are without question ignorant of constitutional fact which in turn requires their subsequent rants to be less than intelligent even to the point of self-discriminating.

Moreover they exude extraordinary abilities to be resigned to cookie cutter mentalities which would stand to reason when one acknowledges the common tactic of all hate mongers throughout mankind's history when mass mortification was the prescribed tool for lock step storm-trooper style loyalty.

These attributes are found on high & low within the chain of the infected class. What they fail to repeatedly come to grips with is that they have no honor no home no foundation within their rants nor their personal lives as well.

When one uses cloward-piven alinsky mao marx & the pseudo progressive melting of the afore mentioned what they end up with is a mortification of an entire block of a populous dumbed down by passions that can do little more than repetitive thought.

It would be easier to instruct Pavlov's dogs his need deprivation analysis technics than change the already mortified progressive minds of todays kindergarten students.

To teach an infected mind of the mortified progressive race-baiter to change their spots will no doubt fall away to the anals of time. Once mortified these lock-step masses become little more than a dumbed down version of the classic Orwellian misfits resembling a block race that mindfully appears nearer the Borg.

At some point we must be willing to hold these subversive anti-American / anti-Constitution leaders accountable for they and their predecessors have all been complacent in what one day no doubt will be charted as the largest criminal enterprise ever to have evolved under the guise of perpetuating itself off as a movement i.e, progressive political class.

America lies within the wisdom set down by our founders. There in lies our foundation as a Nation which will afford our resolutions going forward.

be well & gby friends - patriots,

my factual/actual thoughts are that to be in, or associated w/the NAACP. you first have to be a Negro. amnd you secondly have to be in their quilque, and third you have to be biggoted! So, how is that for a "RACIST" organization? What a "Racist" organization! Hypocrits! What is the point of having the NAACP, if we have a (half) Black ,man (Illegally) in office? Disban the bastard organization NOW!!!

Catt Cantu

All that ranting about "race-baiting".. and NOT ONE WORD about Breitbart and FOX!!! LOL!

Trying to deflect attention away from that debacle and pretend its all Obama's fault? The way you guys LIE is just insane!!

Sorry... ANY organization that can count amongst their members nearly ALL the United States' white supremacists' groups has no business flapping about someone else's supposed "racism".

Editor's Reply:

We could reply to many things here, but we'll simply ask you to name one white supremacist organization that's an accepted part of the Tea Party (assuming that's what you're referring to with "ANY organization..." We're not aware of any.

Dave.. Great rebuttle to Jose.
