Obama and the Socialist Bourgeoisie

· Thursday, August 19, 2010

"I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion of the means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. In my youth I travelled much, and I observed in different countries, that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer. … Repeal that [welfare] law, and you will soon see a change in their manners. St. Monday and St. Tuesday, will soon cease to be holidays. Six days shalt thou labor, though one of the old commandments long treated as out of date, will again be looked upon as a respectable precept; industry will increase, and with it plenty among the lower people; their circumstances will mend, and more will be done for their happiness by inuring them to provide for themselves, than could be done by dividing all your estates among them. --Benjamin Franklin

If there is one generalization that can be accurately asserted about Barack Hussein Obama and generations of Marxists before him, it is that they are and always have been, universally, hypocrites. They preach classist sermons to the masses, the foundational fodder upon which their failed socialist regimes are constructed, all while living lavish lifestyles characterized by elitism and overly conspicuous consumption.

This generalization holds not just for Western socialists, but also for their Soviet-era mentors, of which I am a first-hand witness.

In 1987, I stepped off an Aeroflot Tu-124 at Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport, grateful that the "aircraft" had made it all the way to our destination. My moment of gratitude was abruptly interrupted at the bottom of the aircraft steps by two pallid gents in off-the-rack suits who were accompanied by two humorless uniformed Militsiya regulars.

Apparently, my reputation had preceded me.

The suited fellows, representatives of the Soviet Committee for State Security, offered not so much as a simple "welcome." Rather, they insisted that I turn over my credentials and possessions, and accompany them for an "interview." We left the airport and drove to an aging gray building in central Moscow directly across from the Kremlin.

Once inside the building, my hosts informed me that I was a "guest" of the state, and would remain so until such time they determined I could leave. I was taken to a third-floor room, rather sparse in its furnishings, where I remained for three days. Though the accommodations were not up to Bedouin tent standards, the room did have a window with a splendid view of two entrances into the Kremlin.

Through that window by night shined the ominous Red Star atop Spasskaya Tower. By day, I could observe all the movement into and out of the Kremlin.

There was a sea of ubiquitous Soviet state-made autos making their way through the plaza in front of the Kremlin -- Volgas, Ladas and Moskvichs, most of which were as old as (and in no better operating condition than) the Tupolev 124 on which I had arrived. What I recall most was how that sea of decaying autos parted with regularity to allow unhindered passage of shiny ZIL-117 curtained limousines carting members of the Soviet Politicheskoye Byuro on their way to elegant meals in stylish places that no common Soviet citizen was allowed to enter.

Surely the great vision of human liberation from capitalism envisioned by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels did not include limousine liberals?

Shortly after the Demo's 2008 "October Surprise," that politically fortuitous collapse of the U.S. securities markets which Obama rode into office, one of his condemnations of corporate execs was for "flying around the nation on private jets" while their companies were sinking into bankruptcy.

At the time, Obama had just stepped off the most expensive luxury jet in the world, Air Force One, which costs far more to operate and maintain for every minute of flight than the largest of corporate jets cost for hours, or even days, of flight. Just like his socialist mentors, Obama was oblivious to even a hint of the hypocrisy.

Since then, he has logged many, many more hours on Air Force One, in transit to more luxurious vacation destinations and elite political confabs than any nouveau riche lucky lottery winner has in first class seats to Vegas -- and all while our nation is sinking into bankruptcy.

Obama is just the latest of the Socialist Bourgeoisie political aristocracy to occupy the White House, the archetype being Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who built on the statist foundation laid by Woodrow Wilson, and did more to undermine liberty than any president in history, with the possible exception of Abe Lincoln -- until Obama. (I suspect Rahm Emanuel plagiarized Obama's rule number one, "Never allow a crisis to go to waste," from FDR.)

According to Marxist doctrine, manifest in Obama's classist rhetoric, the bourgeoisie are defined as the dominant ruling-class who control the means of production in a capitalist economy and abuse the proletariat to produce their wealth.

However, what Marx didn't have was the benefit of observing a mature free enterprise system in operation under a constitutional democratic republic from which strong and healthy middle class economies arise. So strong is the middle class in the U.S. and other industrialized nations, that modern Socialists now use the term "bourgeoisie" to pejoratively depict middle class consumerism.

What Marx unwittingly defined is the nature of Socialist government barons like Obama and his czars, where the dominant ruling class are those in political power who regulate the means of economic production through regulation and taxation in order to reduce the ranks of the middle class and thereby increase the proletariat masses, those to whom the ruling political class can discriminately transfer wealth in return for re-election ... until the wealth runs out.

Unfortunately for the proletariat, this transfer of wealth is not sustainable, and the only equality achieved is impoverishment of everyone except the Socialist Bourgeoisie -- trickle-up poverty.

That was precisely the result of socialism in the USSR and every other nation where politburos have centralized control over the economy leading to bankrupted nations, all the while, living themselves like the tyrant kings and potentates they ostensibly decry.

And so it is with the Obamas who, along with their Kobe beef-eating entourage, are preparing for their eighth vacation this year -- this one to exclusive Martha's Vineyard for the next 10 days. Maybe this time the family dog Bo will be able to travel on the same plane as his masters and not get stuck on a later flight with some other lesser White House lackeys, as was the case when the Obama's vacationed in fashionable Bar Harbor, Maine, in July.

As free enterprise bends to the point of breaking under the weight of ever more oppressive taxation and regulation, and statism proceeds to bankrupt the nation, Obama and his Socialist Bourgeoisie are hobnobbing around with the rich and famous. According to his deputy press secretary, "There will be hiking, time at the beach, time at the ice cream store -- all the sort of things you do when you're at Martha's Vineyard. You enjoy the people and the good food." And of course, there will be golf at Mink Meadows in Vineyard Haven.

As millions of parents struggle to provide the most basic needs for their children, Barack is eating cake.

While I don't know what October Surprise the Demos have up their collective sleeve for this fall's election cycle, I am gravely concerned that, given Obama's arrogant vacation schedule, it will be more devastating than the mischief they arranged in 2008. However, I remain altogether confident that American Patriots, like our forebears, will defend our Essential Liberty and persevere through whatever trials and foibles arise.

One can only hope for a HUGE "November Surprise", the content of which should be a majority of Dems getting tossed from office.

My Father was born in Czechoslovakia and came to this country in 1939 with his Father and younger Sister. In 1989, my Father, Mother, Sister and Myself went back to where he was born, the 1st time he had been back in 50 years. When we got off the plane in Prague, greeting us at the bottom of the airplane stairs were Military Police, with Machine Guns and dogs. We were escorted into the airport, required to exchange American Dollars for theirs based on the number of people in our group for the number of days we would be in their country. What we saw was Communism 1st hand. We had and still have Family there. At that time one of our Cousins was a Doctor and her Husband a College Professor. They lived in what we would call a run down Apartment Housing project and had one old car that you had to enter from the Passenger side. When we arrived back at the airport to leave the country we were separated, asked questions and our carryon luggage was thoroughly searched by hand. We were told we could exchange any of their currency back to American Dollars when we left. They did do that but only after a LENGTHY process of questions, etc.

The reference to the ice cream store was intentional, a calculation to rub salt in the wounds this regime has inflicted upon patriots.

It has always been the way of liberal socialist elites to think that they are above and apart from the rest of us. The rules never apply to them but they know what is best for everyone else.

Another fine analysis, Mr. Alexander. As a patriot who deeply loves his country, I too approach the forthcoming elections with trepidation. Will the middle-class - the whipping-boy of the MSN and the left - achieve the critical tipping-point to drive this profligate and his enablers from the field?

One can only hope that the downward trend in his poll numbers continues. Bush's declining numbers were exacerbated by an unpopular war and a willing media to demonize his efforts. Patriots can only rely on the internet and your efforts, Mr. Alexander, to remind us of the importance of November vote.

If you think those socialist in power will go quietly into the night in Nov. 2010 you have your head in the clouds.

The Washington State 2010 primary to oust the socialist saw a horrid 26 percent voter turn out. That does not reflect voter concern.

The US population as a whole are like sheep, taking what they are given and complaining about what they are not.

What happened to the self reliance in this country?

What happened to those who would defend our constitution with more than a little retoric?

Blatant unconstitutional government legislation is the norm now.

If you are worried about future governmental tyranny; you do not need to wait, it is here.

All tyrants go by way of a fall! They like SATAN are on "STAGE" for but a season, and when that season ends they have the "WHITE THRONE JUDGEMENT" to face, and again as with all tyrants they are given over to a "REPROBATE MIND", resulting in their never being able to be "SAVED" from the "LAKE OF FIRE"!

Mark, I am not sure that we will even have an election this November. The socialist elite can see that the elected ones are in trouble So I am afraid that we will see an emergency of such grave proportions that the election will have to be post-phoned. Probably until after the 2nd war for independence. I hope not but it don't look good.

Good Afternoon Mark,

Your Essay today provides a telling description of where our country is headed. This administration and its leaders will, if allowed, take us down the sorry path that all socialist regimes have followed. As many have noted, the real problem for the United States is as much a clueless electorate as a totally incompetent president. The results of the midterm elections in November will truly be a 'window' on where we're headed. EVERY concerned patriot MUST go to the polls and put an end to the idiocy that is overwhelming our freedoms and once great country! Fortunately, it finally appears people are starting to understand the Marxist mindset of Barack Hussein Obama

Re: George of Ohio

George, as long as we do not become complacent believing that most ‘other’ Americans will shuffle the communists out in the upcoming elections.

Becoming overly optimistic for a victorious November could prove a letdown; the socialists always have another trick in their play books, will skew economic information and figures, will distort with deceit their efforts to date, will demonize conservatives and American capitalism, and will also claim that the conservative and independent furor is because of past failed Bush and Conservative era policies.

I believe now is NOT the time for assumed victory; instead it is a time to seriously ramp up our efforts to inform the American masses as Roger McBee and others are doing. Send the Patriot web site, and its articles, to friends, acquaintances, and relatives (liberals, independents, and conservatives alike), and encourage all to become involved in liberty.

We need ramp up our efforts, gather the masses, and encourage everyone in the importance of removing from office those that are robbing America of its history and trying to bankrupt capitalism.

Let us citizens send the strongest message in the history of our country, short of civil war, that we will remember in November their attempts to “transform America” into a communist-minded, centralized government. Remember in November!

Because I fear if November fails, the later (civil war) may be necessary to change Washington and get America back on track.

Roy, we've already had the 2nd war for independence. We lost. The coming 3rd American Revolution promises to be a doozy. Ironic that our soldiers fought and died in every corner of the Earth to stop the spread of Socailism, communism, and fascism, only to have it rear it's ugly head in our own beloved country, where they are kept powerless by the administration. No loaded weapons allowed on military bases for crying out loud! It's almost as if Clinton knew... But how can Liberals keep pushing this agenda when it has failed EVERY time it has been tried. Name me one successful communist/socialist regime. OK, China, but how much longer do you think the politburo can hold on to power with the growing economy?

I would be interested to find out what the avg per household income would be if BO's redistribution plan were to succeed. In other words, sum all reported income and divide by the number of legal USA residents. Wouldn’t this be representative of the perfect redistribution plan??? I bet the avg yearly “income” would drop for all, well below the current avg. Has this ever been estimated or does this even make sense??? Just wondering…

Many are wondering that very same speculation noted at the end of this article about Barry's devious ways and sneaky misdirection to gain the upper hand.

His working back-up AG Holder has got to be the one to make sure all the hand rails are in place to upset the elections in November by any means possible and I am sure there will be a newly created crisis, if not a militay engagement planned to use martial law to disrupt the ballot box upset coming their way. Barry has made his party a shambles and his big mouth just will not stay shut, his inner support is now as shaky as a broken ladder and it's stress pills all around at martini time. There is somthing in the works and I think the Real Republicans had better work their butts off to find out what he has in mind or the election that could will become the Bull Run of the coming elections.

I am convinced after 63 years of life that the fall of man as depicted in the Bible is a reality. As I see pluralism and relativism and secular humanism become the prevailing worldview and the underpinning of public policy I have come to the conclusion that with no foundation to stand upon self-government becomes a concept that is not tenable. Our founders understood the biblical teaching of man's brokenness and sinful nature before a perfect and holy God and saw the need for restraints on themselves and systems they put in place. Conservatives, liberals, Democrats, Republicans, Tea Party or any other group become all the same when they turn from moral truth and the moral law giver who sustains us. Greed, power and money are the gods of the majority of people in power in all sectors of life. We have become the Roman Empire: when a nation disregards the individual and caters only to groups and special interests that nations day is done, and that was Rome, and soon to be this nation.

Rarely do you get to see evil - real evil - naked and alone. Most people think the devil comes with horns and pitchfork. But the truth is more subtle. The devil's number is 666 - 6 the number of man, 3 the number of God; satanic evil is this: man raising himself up to be God. That is what the communists believe and worship - in the form of the state. And they would make the State everyman's god. Evil personified fills our current government. The Founders knew that our republic represented the only hope for mankind on this earth - a mere moment of true liberty in stark contrast against all the bloody millenniums of tyranny and oppression. Do you?

Providing tax breaks and further incentives for only the ones at the top just continues to make the top richer all while the middle class suffer." 1st- Capitalism has to have free markets to operate smoothly, there are no free markets in the global economy, free markets were eliminated in FDR's terms, the Fed Reservre created and manipulated Great Depression, the catalyst for Socialist to fundamentally transform the free markets into wealth redistribution. 2nd- you talk of tax breaks and tax incentives, totally oblivious to the fact that a progressive income tax code is a Socialist invention, and the catalyst to fundamentally transform personal wealth into institutionalized societal impoverishment.

If Air Force One is the most expensive aircraft to operate, is Air Force Two the second most expensive? I believe I read that Michelle Obama and daughter Sasha (along with many friends) used Air Force Two for their vacation to Spain. I retired from the Air Force in 2004 after 25 years of service. During that time I can recall that on two separate occasions, a 4-star general used Air Force aircraft for their own personal trips. Both times the general in question was fired. “Obama is just the latest of the Socialist Bourgeoisie political aristocracy to occupy the White House, the first being Franklin Delano Roosevelt…”

Not that FDR wasn’t one of the worst, if not the worst, of the “Socialist Bourgeoisie” progressives, however he was not the first. Though you correctly named the family, that sobriquet goes to his predecessor, “Teddy” Roosevelt. Immediately following Teddy came two more “Socialist Bourgeoisie” progressives, W. H. Taft and Woodrow Wilson. From 1901 to 1920 (19 short years) these three, especially Wilson, did more to ruin America than all the presidents combined in the previous 120 years. FDR merely continued the expansion of the state and the decline of the nation.

On Sunday August 15,2010, the Kitsap Sun ran an article regarding an illegal alien who has been issued a Washington Drivers License, after moving out of Arizona. How come the state of Washington is ignoring Federal Immigration Law?

Is the State of Washington no longer part of the United States of America and is this still a nation living under the rule of law. Are we now free to ignore any law we disagree with?

I have emailed my elected representatives, but no answer and likewise the governor of the state, I expect them to ignore this issue- rest assured I will not and will contact the US Attorney General and my Congressional Representatives and the President- I am sure they won't respond as they don't want to lose votes by following our laws!

I have cc'd everyone in my address book and will be writing another letter to the editor of the Kitsap Sun. Please see the two letters to the editor on August 18, 2010. Mine is titled "State is ignoring Federal Law".

to those in my address book-Mr Mckenna is the State Attorney General of Washington, charged with upholding law.

1) Marx was an intellectual dufus, (and that's me being nice), that concocted his theories based on one thing and one thing only; envy. He couldn't make it anyway else, as he had no skills, no ability to make money what-so-ever, so instead of trying to become wealthy himself, he proposed his asinine theories to make everyone else the poorer, while he gained wealth at their expense. Unfortunately for him, he died, pretty much impoverished. Had he had somehow managed to travel the the USA during that time, he would have at best been laughed at by everyone that came within his earshot of his voice, or at worse arrested for making seditious remarks and booted out of the country.

2) PREZBO? Well what can one say, other than he is the beneficiary of Marx's ravings, and again, I'm being nice.

The tea party in DC several months back saw 1 and 1/2 half busloads of people come from Louisville, Ky., sponsored by a Dr. Frank Simon. Dr. Simon is sponsoring buses to DC for the upcoming 8/28 tea party, and we are now filling our 7th bus!!

All of this made me think that the GOP should be contacting people like Simon in an effort to offer some dollars for actually advertising this sort of thing. The people here getting on the buses heard about the buses by simple word of mouth..., I cannot help but think that twice as many buses would be filled if the whole community was aware of the opportunity. If this same thing were done in all the cities, let's say, east of St. Louis, the number of tea partiers in DC on the 28th would be overwhelming, with thousands of the people unable to get within 5 miles of the Lincoln Memorial..., and if I were one of them I would be very happy because it would send an unavoidable signal to the Dems that they were toast, and it would also invigorate other conservatives to do something also. Our nation might see a sea change, one that has been due for more than a few generations.

So use some wise money to get people to

DC to these meetings, and reap the benefits.

Hello America,

It would seem that our Communists in residence in the District of Collusion have like their leftist predecessors throughout history developed a taste for the good life while their minions suffer. The Bam and his wife Meshell 'My Gal' Bam are going all out in the opulent elitist status.

If history serves me right, those that the Bama's emulate the most didn't fare to well at the hands of the people. They both closely resemble King Louie XVIth of France and his princess bride Marie 'Let Them Eat Cake' Antoinette.

As a matter of fact Meshell 'My Gal' Bam has been given the last name Antoinette since returning from her luxury vacation with lots of friends and the chillun in Spain. It is all part of get Whitey while we can, since America is still predominately White.

Louie and Marie were man handled by the rabble, bound, placed on a cart and showered with rotted scraps of whatever was at hand on their way to a meeting with the Iron Mistress that administered the silent kiss of death, or off with their heads.

We here in America are much more civilized, but are still consumed with anger over the hypocrisy and arrogance of this elitist couple that choose to make us eat cake while they dine sumptuously and travel on vacation to the most luxurious destinations on the planet.

That angers us, but instead of routing them out of the White House, taring and covering them with white chicken feathers, placing them on a log and riding them out of town to the hoots and jeers of those they considered below their station, we go to the polls and say our farewells, or good riddance to bad rubbish.

Only if the bad people decide to pull some shenannigans to force themselves on us for longer than we want them to stay do we exercise our right to defend the Constitution by exercising our Second Amendment rights. That would also mean the tar and feather punishment, because unlike the Italians we don't hang our leaders and their families upside down and riddle them with bullets. Their fate is on them.

Bravo, Mark, for speaking the truth even though it is very unpopular and not politically correct. We were introduced to two books that prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that FDR's first VP as well as many in high government positions during his presidency were communists.....The Venona Project and Perjury. It is time the truth infiltrated our society....actually, it is time the truth FLOODED our society!

Never Forget!! Well, it seems that many have. No I am not talking about the "HamMosque" controversy, but rather the Economic consequences of 911. Have we all forgotten that Air Travel became such risky business that airlines failed and merged, Hotels sat empty and the economy faced an unprecedented uncertainty. The instability, fear and economic uncertainty created by the attack were conquered by the American spirit and the leadership of George Bush.

George Bush revived a wounded economy and then moved the battleground from NY, Washington, and Pennsylvania, to the Middle East, where America's finest had the advantage in training, weapons and tactics. Mr. Bush and his advisers should have been credited with reviving the US economy, and for moving the fight out of our streets, but instead, he was vilified because the UN definition of WMD was so narrowly restrictive that it excluded the tons of weaponized dual-use chemicals found throughout Iraq. The media was relentless in their distortion of the facts on this matter. CNN has footage - seen only once when live- that shows stockpiles of weaponized Organo-phosphate poison in Karbala.

The media has shelved the videos of Republicans calling for inquiry into the stability of government supported mortgages. Later of course,it was the economic tsunami created by Democrat social policy at Freddie and Fannie, and the Clinton's Community re-investment act that hit Mr. Bush at the end of his term and (with the help of the media) opened the window of opportunity for Mr.Obama to fly in on his magic carpet, powered by the promise of hope and change.

As it turns out,Mr. Obama has not only a perfect plan to cripple the US economy, but he has intentionally moved our troops to one of the worst pieces of ground in the history of warfare on which to do battle. A battleground controlled by entrenched Muslims, fighting on their home ground. His actions are indefensible, except by other progressive socialists bent. These actions, considered in light of his overwhelming disregard for the will of the American people, his ability to distort - no, lie - to the American people, suggest that he is bent on the destruction of American Liberty. He will soon learn however, that Liberty belongs to the People, not those elected to represent them.

Mark - - Would you see if you can investigate this:

O'Bama (His grandfather was Irish) has assigned to his dog, a Navy Veterinarian. This is the first time that any President has had a Veterinarian assigned to take care of "his" pooch. Veterinarians in the Navy are very rare, and usually are assigned to big bases and Marine units to treat combat/guard animals and to monitor locally procured foods to prevent food-borne diseases.

I have a friend whose daughter is marrying a Navy officer. I met that young officer and he told me that last year he had to create a special unit in which to assign a Veterinarian to Chicago. Apparently, when the dog travels, this officer also travels. At about $155K for salary and housing benefits, wouldn't it be cheaper to take Bo to some local vets in the cities where he would be traveling? After all, couldn't the Secret Service be tasked with checking out the Veterinarians to be certain that they are not TEA PARTY groupies?

I sent this info to Drudge and he did not even give me a response.... Perhaps he thought me a kook.

Let me tell you that military/naval folks are trained to abhor "personal service" from lower ranking service members. This abuse of O'Bamaz authority sticks in the throat of those sacrificing for our nation and he and Marie Antoinette are both clueless to the aura of entitlement that they are radiating.

By the way I am a West Point Graduate, retired officer, and attorney. I do not send this email for personal aggrandizement. I only want folks to learn what the Emperor Who Has No Clothes is doing to all of the rest of us "subjects".

All these comments about an emergency or fraud during the next election are exactly what the left said about the Bush administration when it looked clear the Republicans were going to lose seats in his last mid-term election. It was wrong then, it's wrong now.

The claim that Obama arranged the financial problems of late 2008 as an October surprise shows us that Mr. Alexander was busy learning how to revise history during his three-day stay with the soviets. To suggest that a junior senator from Illinois who had just surprised everyone by winning the nomination, or his party, which couldn't get anything of note past President Bush, could somehow scuttle the nation's finances is laughable on its face. It ranks right up there with those on the far left saying Bush arranged 9-11 in order to make the country a police state.

I'm all for taking shots at either side, but go far enough around the partisan circle in either direction and you become your opposite number from the other side.

Posted August 19, 2010 at 11:31:19 PM

Editor's Reply:

There was NO claim that Obama was implicated in the economic debacle of 2008, just that he rode it into office -- John Kerry's lapdog. Government (primarily Democrat) meddling in the housing market set up the housing crash, which began in 2006, and resulted in collateral financial failures in 2008. I suggest you review John McCain's concerns about the consequences of government interference through Fannie and Freddie, versus those of the principal meddlers, including Barney Frank. If you assume that Socialist Democrats do not have an agenda to reengineer the U.S. economy by manipulating it, including the possibility of brining it crashing down, in order to sustain and enhance their power, remove your head from, uh, the sand. Both Republicans and Democrats need to get out of the way of free enterprise. This is not about "taking shots," it is about preserving liberty for the next generation. Oh, and about Bush and 9-11, those accusation came primarily from the "black helicopter" conspiracy theorist crowd on the Right and Left. We are clearly not among them.

Jake Peachey

Historically the masses of common working people carried the economic burden of the hierarchy above them. For most of history, they were the "human livestock" farmed by the political class and attendant rent seekers (nowadays, unionized public sector employees with compensation well above the equivalence in private sector). The common working people lived at reasonable subsistence level, at best, with destitution and starvation in hard times, while providing the Canon fodder for the geopolitical intrigues of the political class.

With the advent of the phenomenal success of free market capitalism, income rose from less than $500 to approximately $40,000 annually working wage average in America. This still doesn't change the fact that the cost of the public sector is largely borne by the lower economic strata. Higher income people, to varying degrees, have the means to 'pass the buck' when public-sector costs increase.

Here's a typical example of how this works. The cost of medical liability for practicing physicians is a business cost added to the charges. This adds to the cost of insurance premiums --- and for businesses that provide health insurance, it is simply added to the cost of goods and services sold. By the same token, the good doctors will collectively raise their fees to offset any new personal taxes. Corporate tax is ultimately added onto costs of goods and services sold, thus making corporations tax collectors for big government. All these costs are added on to the cost of living, which is absorbed by the lower income groups because they cannot pass it on.

The observable phenomena to this effect are when prices rise. Upper income groups manage to stay ahead of inflation while the lower income groups fall behind.

It wasn't always this way. I remember in the late '60s a complaint in the Ann Landers column about disparities in pay of a salaried individual getting less after years of schooling than a high school graduate did operating machines and equipment. This happened because of excellent growth in the traditional industrial economy, with public sector being relatively lean and efficient ------ allowing the private sector to grow faster relative to the public sector. Low unemployment with tight immigration control forced wages higher. In those days one income was sufficient for reasonably comfortable middle-class living. The relative position of the working-class peaked in the late 60s and early 70s and has declined since.

Political conservatives should learn to effectively explain how the economic burden of expansionary public sector trickles down largely to the working wage earner --- even when they're not paying taxes directly. This could destroy the foundation of the Democratic Party which claims to represent the common working people.

M Rick Timms, MD

Jake - I am afraid that you did not pick a very good example with regard to doctors passing on the costs of medical liability insurance. "The cost of medical liability for practicing physicians is a business cost added to the charges" is not quit correct. The unrestrained medical malpractice industry causes physicians to practice defensive medicine - ordering numerous tests to document their clinical observations and thereby hopefully reduce liability "exposure". That of course leads to increased costs for the patient and ultimately higher premiums for medical insurance.

Your error is in the claim that physicians can pass the higher costs of their medical malpractice premium onto their patients. It is important to note that physician re-inmbursement is set in large part by Medicare, which establishes a payment for each service code. That payment then serves as the basis for all private health insurance payers upon which to set their rates of payments to physicians. The payment to the physician is set - and the physician has not recourse to increase it. He may certainly raise his "fee" - but he will NOT be paid at a higher rate because of his malpractice insurance costs, or fuel surcharge or any other market based cost of doing business. The actual payments to surgeons for specific codes has decreased %50 over the last 10 years, and the industry is at the brink.

The so called "doctor fix" (that the Dems conveniently ignored when manufacturing the Obamacare cost estimates/promises) is not a matter of posturing or gamesmanship by physicians. If reimbursements are cut - at all- doctors will simply be forced to close shop.

As medicare rates have decreased, the private carriers have increased their reductions in payments to physicians to an even greater degree, while raising premiums and limiting patient access. This has produced great dividends to stockholders invested in the insurance companies -but is in no way related to physician fee increases to offset malpractice premiums. I wish it were that easy!

The solution is to have real competition among insurance carriers, but that has essentially been eliminated by the progressives who are trying to lock out private insurance. HSA's and other forms of free market, patient controlled, high deductible policies and catastrophic coverage plans will be all but eliminated in the OBAMACARE model.

Physician reimbursement is simply not market based.

That is one of the reasons for the impending collapse of the health care system as physicians find themselves unable to survive on $19 payments for Medicare office visits, "no payments" from illegals. Most are planning to simply withdraw from medicare, move to a cash basis, or close their offices.

You didn't say why you were in Russia or why you were detained and for how long.

Posted August 21, 2010 at 7:37:31 AM

Mike M., M.D.

Dr Timms, you are quite correct. Even well-meaning conservatives are far too un-informed, that there is no "cost shifting" for doctors because reimbursement is fixed regardless of doctor's fees. Jake wanted to show how govt. regs and taxes, and litigation costs, don't just harm the "rich" but also those with less abundance. Jake is right in a larger sense that those on the receiving end, especially the "poor", will be hurt when medical practices are hurt. The "poor" will simply have less doctors to choose from who work for government programs (scarcity and longer wait times). This medical poverty will indeed "trickle up" to normal working middle class Americans because privately-owned medical practices will also disappear, and those who survive will have their ability to provide care will be diminished by govt. controls.

Great work Mr. Alexander, and God Bless all the wonderful AMERICANS who posted favorably in response to this cogent essay.

Re. Karl Rove

Your obvious Socialistic liberalism is stifling your common sense in how this country came to be and what it was mean't to be.

I am far from a rich man, more close to poor, yet I do not envy the rich and I don't pity the poor. Whether it be a matter of intelligence, education or work ethics, few rich that are "born with a silver spoon in their mouths."

You're seemingly hatred of the rich and "their paying little or no taxes" because of the government gives me rise to ask you why. Why does the top percentage of America's rich pay more in taxes in averaged income than the "blue-collar" and poor? Why, as Democrats believe, the rich should be taxed beyond and above the "common and poor" people has all of Obama and his fellow Socialist Congressional legislation agendas hung the heavey weights of more taxes upon the shoulders of an already heavily taxed, economically recessed burdened middle class, small business' and poor.

Your a water carrier, Mr. Rove, for Obama's "trickle up economy" and blindly spilling along the way to a people that won't accept it unless it's filled to the brim.

We must not only work diligently to ensure a Republican takes the Oval Office in 2012, but work just as hard to ensure Republicans kick democrats out of sufficient seats in the Senate and to retain control of the House to enable the nation to regain its financial and economic footing.

One thing that is essential in our efforts to accomplish this is to immediately put an end to Republicans bashing Republicans. Replace this with Republicans explaining their plans to pull the nation out of the current situation. Every negative comment Republicans make about other Republicans is nothing less than ammunition that demagogues can use in the upcoming elections. Republicans are already fighting the demagogues, unions, millions upon millions of dollars in questionable donations, but the mindless media as well.
