The Current Crisis and the Opportunity of a New Dawn for Liberty

Sunrise on LibertyA few decades ago, one of the national service opportunities I pursued required a battery of examinations including a comprehensive personality profile. After three days of psychological tests, a career profiler compiled my assessment. In a later interview with said profiler, he looked at me and declared with candor, "You are crazy!"
That decree got no rise out of me. I have received that appraisal numerous times, but he did put a fresh perspective on it. He continued, "Not crazy in the pathological sense, but crazy in that you are one of very few people I have profiled who actually thrives in the midst of crisis and conflict." Apparently, most "normal people" try to avoid crisis and conflict. He labeled my folder, "Warrior."
In light of this assessment and its outcome, my penchant for what Sam Adams called "the animated contest for freedom," I offer the following opinion about the future of American Liberty.
On occasion I have been critical of Barack Hussein Obama, a phony "community organizer" con man, who, with the help of his Leftist puppeteers, masterfully duped 69 million Americans into giving him the most expensive public housing and benefits in the nation.
I am most critical of this charlatan's political endeavor to demolish free enterprise with a debt bomb, and from the economic rubble, resurrect a transformed USSA subject to tyrannical rule under the oppression of Democratic Socialism.
Obama built his presidential campaign around the "change" theme: "This is our moment, this is our time to turn the page on the policies of the past, to offer a new direction. We are fundamentally transforming the United States of America."
His former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel said infamously, "Never allow a crisis to go to waste," which was the basis for Obama's assertion, "this painful [economic] crisis provides us with an opportunity to transform our economy to improve the lives of ordinary people."
By no means will the full implementation of Democratic Socialism "improve the lives of ordinary people." As I have noted previously, Democratic Socialism, like Nationalist Socialism, is nothing more than Marxist Socialism repackaged. Likewise, it seeks a centrally planned economy directed by a dominant-party state that controls economic production by way of taxation, regulation and income redistribution.
The success of Democrat Socialism depends upon supplanting Essential Liberty -- the rights "endowed by our Creator" -- primarily by refuting such endowment.
Indeed, Obama's mission is transformation, and economic crisis is the horse he rode in on. It can also be the horse that he and his socialist cadre are chased out on.
Truth be told, I want to "fundamentally transform" what our nation has become after years of incremental encroachment upon Rule of Law by socialist predators, the most brazen offender in history being Obama. Indeed, I do not want the current economic "crisis to go to waste," and see it as a great opportunity to "change" our economy in such a way as to improve the lives of all Americans.
Of course, the opportunity I see in the current crisis is diametrically opposed to that which Obama and his Leftist cadres envision. I see a new dawn for Liberty on the horizon.
For all Patriots, steadfast in our devotion to Freedom, the sun is rising on one of two options to preserve the legacy of Liberty for this and future generations. The first and more desirable option is the transformational restoration of constitutional Rule of Law and the second is the transformational reformation of government, in fulfillment of Thomas Jefferson's contention, "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."
The current economic crisis, which manifested in 2006 with the surprisingly ubiquitous collapse in real estate values and subsequent banking crisis, poses an ominous threat to Liberty. The Obama administration used the cover of this crisis to implement its so-called "stimulus plan," which primarily stimulated the growth of central government at an enormous cost.
The result was accelerated accumulation of crushing national debt, now approaching $15 trillion, which has placed our economy on a collision course with catastrophic collapse, short of bold intervention.
The economic indicators foretelling that collision abound.
The Commerce Department reports that the American economy grew at an annualized rate of 1.8 percent in the first quarter of 2011. (You might have missed that report amid all the political campaigning over OBL's demise.)
Home values fell three percent in the first quarter and it is estimated that more than 28 percent of homeowners now owe more than the value of their property.
Energy and commodity costs are highly volatile, in large measure due to abysmal domestic economic and energy policies plus weak foreign policy. One way to devalue outstanding debt is inflation, and there are plenty of indicators that inflation is underway.
Imports are up and exports are down. The International Monetary Fund estimates that China's economy will surpass ours by 2016.
Unemployment inched back up to 9 percent last month, but the "real" unemployment rate, those who have given up the search and part-time workers seeking full-time employment, is almost 16 percent.
More Americans are dependent upon government assistance payouts than ever before. More than 18 percent of total personal income was redistributed in the form of "government benefits." Almost one in seven households receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (food stamps).
The declining status of the U.S. dollar as the world's safest fiat currency is a metaphor for the decline of our standing as the world's beacon of liberty, the decline of "American exceptionalism."
Having a good recollection of the Carter administration, I invoke Yogi Berra's sentiment, "It is like déjà vu all over again."
Despite the considerable barriers these indicators pose to economic recovery, there is still time for a transformational restoration of constitutional Rule of Law and the consequential rescaling of our central government to comport with the limits placed upon it by our Constitution. But as noted above, that will require bold intervention, and it will require that a majority of the members of Congress honor and abide by their oath of office.
At present, there are outstanding plans on the table to put prosperity over poverty, including the Republican Study Committee Budget for FY 2012 and Heritage Foundation's comprehensive plan to restore prosperity.
House and Senate leaders are stepping out with bolder propositions to cut government spending. As a prerequisite to raising the national debt ceiling to avoid default, Speaker John Boehner has drawn the line, and may even hold it: "Without significant spending cuts and reforms to reduce our debt, there will be no debt limit increase, and the cuts should be greater than the accompanying increase in debt authority the president is given. We should be talking about cuts of trillions, not just billions."
Conservative Senate leaders are calling for a Balanced Budget Amendment as a condition to any agreement on increasing the national debt limit.
Of course, Obama, the consummate socialist, trotted out the class warfare card in response: "Their vision is less about reducing the deficit than it is about changing the basic social compact in America, [pitting] children with autism or Down's syndrome against every millionaire and billionaire in our society."
Then, in his fatuous display of faux bipartisan, Obama insisted the budget talks must "start by being honest about what's causing our deficit."
Apparently, Obama thinks the budget deficit is caused by a lack of government spending and regulation, as he is proposing a lot more of both.
So, given the current crisis and the long odds against the restoration of Rule of Law, would you concede that this portends a Sunset or Sunrise on Liberty?
Call me crazy -- that profiler certainly did -- but I clearly see a new dawn for Liberty, whether it be transformational restoration of constitutional Rule of Law or the transformational reformation of government. Count me in for either option.
I believe, as did my mentor, President Ronald Reagan: "America's best days are yet to come. Our proudest moments are yet to be. Our most glorious achievements are just ahead."
But I also know, as did he, that "Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it on to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States when men were free."
That extinction will arrive only if we "shrink from the service of our country," so as Paine also said, "If there must be trouble, let it be in my day, that my child may have peace."

Nasdaq.com reported that Treasury auctions conducted yesterday and the day before will, when they clear on Monday, already exceed the debt ceiling. The debate is over. BHO blatantly ignores the Constitution and the law and Congress is irrelevant. We have here a military dictatorship that is even now completing the destruction of the United States of America.

To buoy your assertions, this is by written by an retired engineer friend of mine:
I attended my grandson's commencement ceremony Friday (5/8/11) at Central Missouri University in Warrensburg, MO. the speaker was W.J. Clinton.
Clinton’s message was that we're forever going to have dissent in the world until there is "equality" among nations.
According to him, the sure way to achieve world peace is for there to be no "wealthy" nations and no "poor" nations - that everyone be economically and politically "equal".
Part of his solution is for more government regulations concerning the manufacture and consumption of energy. He, through his foundation, is "tirelessly working" to achieve these ends.
You form your own conclusions here but mine goes as follows:
The wealthy nations (U.S., U.K., Germany and Japan according to Clinton) must curtail the consumption and manufacture of energy (and initiate a corresponding reduction in our standard of living) until we are on par with the "poor" nations of the world (several African nations, the middle east and central / south America according to Clinton). Even Bill admitted raising the standard of living for these nations would be near impossible, so the only conclusion is that he advocates a reduction of ours to the poverty level of those. He proposed to do that through the ruse of "global warming" using the E.P.A. to regulate (toxic) carbon dioxide emissions through taxation. Clinton really lambasted the United States for our failure to go along with the Kyoto Accord where the U.S. would finance 80% of the "climate control" bill for the entire planet.
Is this what we really want? Limited (or no) electricity, almost total abolition of the automobile and exorbitant food costs?
Watch out here folks, this is how the Marxists amongst us are thinking: one society with all of us equal (and equally poor). Not exactly what I wish for my grand-kids.

It is all open for us to see in Stanley Kurtz's book I am reading, "Radical-in-Cief". I recommend it but his past associations scares the living daylights out of me. There are simple solutions that can be made from decisions that come from the minds of the moral and just before God. Solutions do not take many reams of rules and regulations to accomplish just values.
Our nation was founded by such men and ladies with high personal convictions for a nation of people to govern themselves. Those that knew their duty to god, their nation, their neighbor and themselves.

I saw a letter to the editor of my local paper say that he was "a brilliant military strategist." Puleeze. I laughed so hard I thought my pants would never dry. That writer was one of he duped, and I fear, there are tons more. Some Americans are so credulous and ignorant.

Excellent commentary! I so wish that Americans would desire to be more educated about what is truly in our constitution, the limits intended for our government, and that they are not hearing the truth from the mainstream media so. They don't really know what is going on in this country and around the world if that is the only place they get their "news." It amazes me that after everything our president has done and how much he has lied to the American people, that anyone would actually vote for him next year. Unfortunately though, there are people who won't hear the truth because they don't seem to believe we could lose our liberties. Where on earth have those people been?

On another note, isn't it ironic that Obama and his ilk always paint the GOP with the "favors for millionares and billionares" brush, when there are probable more millionares and billionares that donate to and vote for Democrat candidates?
And as for "redistribution of wealth", when Soros, Obama, Moore, Pelosi, Reid, Clinton, et al. forego their lavish incomes and expense accounts and donate all their worldly possessions to charity, THEN they can preach to me about "equality".
For that matter, when airheads like Gore give up their limos, jet rides, and mansions, THEN they can preach to me about saving the planet.
Finally, when the people who believe that human beings are a scourge on the planet lead by example and remove themselves from its surface, then, and ONLY then will I give their opinions any weight.

In Thursdays essay “Sunset or Sunrise on Liberty?” Mr. Alexander was again spot on.
Some might call you crazy Mark but in the end the profiler was right, you have the heart and mind of a Warrior.
We only need to look to the past for answers to today’s questions. The Bible and the Constitution have all we need if we only have the wisdom use the knowledge. I’m sure Ronald Reagan’s file was stamped Warrior too. I’m also confident that he knew where to turn for the right answers.
Let’s hope that the ever raising tide of patriots can reverse the sickening path that these truly perverse lunatics have led our Country down.

With BHO now sporting a 60% approval rating, 1 in 5 on some form of govenment support, unions firmly sitting in the drivers seat and the Republican party looking to be totally fractured and unable to rally behind a strong candidate, I fail to see how the "great one" isn't a shoe-in for a second term. Voter turnout among those on the receiving end of the income redistribution along with union members will be strong, wanting to keep their money secure, while far too many of the eligible voters having their money confiscated will sit this one out, blindly feeling that current policy hasn't affected their everyday lives. America is being taken hostage without a shot being fired. The new weapon is apathy.

Nothing will cause the Federal Elites to reduce their advantage over us proletarians. The fascists would control a constitutional convention. Correcting Constitutional amendments would never be adopted. The Judiciary will continue its fall to the left. Sacrifices will continue to be demanded for the other guy. The few of us born in the ‘20’s, and still members of the Calvin Coolidge Club (the best CCC), try not to be cynical; it’s hard.

I am struck by the President's persistant use of the words 'ordinary American', and his insistance that his policies are directed towards improving their 'lot'. I speak with these 'ordinary Americans' every day in my job (financial endeavors), and, to a man and women, they are terrified of the direction that they see our country heading under this administration. They see the eroding of liberties once taken for granted, as well as the buying power of their hard-earned dollars and the spiritual demise of their children and grand-children. They are worried, not so much for themselves, as for their children. You say it well, Mark, when you use the word 'courage' to define what it will take for us to right this ship that is rapidly taking on the heavy waters of debt. Keep taking the fight to the liberals!!!!

Wrongful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will with no limits, or within limits drawn around us by the inferior rights of others. Tyranny (from the point of view of the tyrant) is unobstructed action according to the tyrant’s will with no limits, or within limits drawn around the tyrant by the inferior rights of others; i.e.: the tyrant possesses wrongful liberty. Tyranny (from the point of view of a serf) is obstructed action according to someone else's will (the tyrant's will) within limits drawn around us by the unequal (superior) rights of others (superior rights of the tyrant and his favorites).
Envision 1,000 people in the Superdome - each naturally different from every other – each a unique individual – yet each naturally surrounded by an equally protective bubble – each individual equally protected in their life, liberty and labored-for property. Under equal rights each individual possesses maximum freedom of activity – each individual has maximum human liberty – maximum “unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others.” As soon as any group of individuals unjustly possess superior rights they become surrounded by larger protective bubbles which, out of geometric necessity, unjustly reduces in like measure the freedom of activity – the liberty - of everyone else. Imagine a King or Prince, or the Pigs of Animal Farm, surrounded by bubbles tens or hundreds or thousands of times larger than that of everyone else – the rest of us restricted within limits drawn around us by the superior rights of others.
Liberty is a function of equal rights. Tyranny is a function of unequal rights where some are "more equal than others" through violation of the rights of others.

That, sir, is the most concise, truest, and most complete description that I've seen of our current situation in this country. We truly are at a crossroads in the history of the United States. We can choose to remain a nation of sheep, being manipulated into a Socialist shadow of our former greatness, or we can stand up for our God-given rights and liberties. We simply MUST stop these lying, corupt, greedy politicians whom we have allowed to hijack our nation and nearly force us into bankruptcy. I find it amazingly clear that Obama is attempting to destroy our way of life and also that he doesn't have any intent of honoring his sworn oath of office. If I had children, I'd feel like a complete traitor to them and their future if I didn't spend every waking minute and every available cent to defeat this bastardization of the American dream of freedom and liberty and the rule of law and private property rights. This administration is openly corrupt and, dare I say, evil, in its' treatment of our Constitution and our Bill of Rights. If we don't stand up and fight for our country, America as a free country will simply cease to exist. I've spent every spare cent that I can muster to give to those entities that are fighting to restore liberty and freedom to our nation and trying to stop this runaway train of endless spending and thug politics. I work in a company where I'm forced to be a member of a labor union. That union is and has been spending huge untold amounts of money (union dues) to support this administration and to support many Socialist and even Communist entities that are all supporting Obama and his "spreading of the wealth". I can't break through the conditioning of the people who are my co-workers (otherwise intelligent, seemingly reasonable people) to make them accept and understand how evil our union actually is and how much more evil public worker unions are. I share your sentiments and I'll continue to do everything in my power to support the people and organizations who are trying to save our country from this grave threat to our way of life and to our freedom and liberties. ABOVE ALL, DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION!

The blood of this patriot will gladly be spilled in the name and defense of the Constitution of the United States as it was originally written and intended. The only way I see any significant restoration of constitutional Rule of Law or the transformational reformation of government is amending Article III, section 1 of the Constitution. There is no way the founding fathers could have known that 200 years hence that those despots appointed to federal judgeships and justices would be living into their 80s and 90s. I am one of those taxpayers that does not think that any federal Judge/Justice should be appointed to a lifetime position without the voters periodically approving their 'continuance' on the bench. I propose that one third of all federally appointed Judges/Justices (yes-that includes the SCOTUS) names appear on the ballot for the area/district that they represent every two years.(All ballots for SCOTUS justices.) Each Judges/Justices name would be followed by a simple Yes or No question "Should this Judge/Justice remain on the bench?" If the majority says "Yes" then that Judge/Justice remains on the bench for roughly six more years. If the majority says "No" then the President would need to nominate another Judge/Justice within a given amount of time, 120 days or so. For an appointed Judge/Justice to remain on the bench for life during 'good behavior' assumes that they have the ability to read and comprehend the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and supporting amendments as they were written. The sorry state of the republic is obvious proof that they do not and by my opinion that reflects 'poor behavior'! Just a thought.....

It's one of my favorite Paine quotes, but right now the "shrinks from the service of his country" doesn't seem to fit. I think it is more appropriate to condemn he who "shrinks from the call of his fellow patriots" or "shrinks from devotion to the Constitution."
To too many people the country IS the government, and they confuse service to country as supporting the government.

I agree whole-heartedly with your sentiment, but if we neglect the power given to the Federal Reserve all our effort is for naught. With the Federal Reserve in control of our money supply, any attempts at cutting government debt will collapse the money supply and cause an economic collapse. The problem is that money is not printed, it is loaned into existence and so the governments role is to keep borrowing money to keep up the money supply. Of course that enriches the banks and bankers and gives enormous control to the government.
If we really want to limit the government control, the US has to take back the power to issue debt-free currency and End the Fed.

Thank you for finally putting in writing the ACTUAL unemployment figure of 16%.
It seems to me that our government has forgotten about the law regarding monopolies. How do we get that restored? ATT is at it again with their acquistion of more and more mobile phone service.
Our country is no longer a place where equal opportunity exists. Corporations have thrown that idea out of the window with pure greed and malice replacing it. How do we, the citizens, stop this madness? It is no wonder people are struggling just to exist. Company benefits no longer exist except for the top executives, who are already raking in billions of dollars in salary and stock options. Somehow this all has to stop in order for freedom to continue. We are not a democratic society any longer and that is very sad and frightening.
If we could get the Congress to pass a law changing the tax laws so that EVERYONE pays 2% tax and NOONE has access to loopholes, there would not be a debt problem. The rich would still be rich, but the poor and middle class would finally be rid of all the extra taxes that fall on us to pay, and have a fair chance of living a decent life.

The colonial Sons of Liberty's present day counterparts (The Tea Party) are alive and well and we shall not fail to stop the giant miasmic debacle which is democratic socialism a.k.a. Marxist Socialism as envisioned by and being worked upon by the current thief at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and his minions.
Too many Americans have given their blood, their lives and their fortunes in defense of our essential liberty to have it squandered by those who know nothing of nor care about the basics of our historic success as a nation.
We must not acquiesce nor falter in our battle to protect, uphold and preserve the legacy of American Liberty and Freedom which at our founding was the result of 6000 years of myriad attempts made by human beings to govern themselves rather than being ruled by others.

An inspiratinal work as is often the case. Sadly, if Liberty is once again to be the guide for us, it will be a banner raised from the ashes of our old nation. Although many logical reasons for the collapse of our Republic may be given, the fact is that the die was cast when we "officially" turned our back on the One who gave us Liberty and now deny Him access to our schools, courts and financial system. It is our duty to continue the struggle but unless the Lord build the house, the effort will be in vain.
Perhaps when circumstances deteriorate enough, Patriots will attempt to gather and some States will be allowed to leave peacefully this time.

Regretfully, much as it is here, in the US it will take more than massaging the totally controlled political machines.
I visited trice Valley Forge, three times Old Ironsides and at least one most of the Civil War Cemeteries, while Washington, due to my work, was always on my travel plans.
See, I was not born in the US and my Birth Certificate will prove that. Yet the US IS MY COUNTRY which I see being destroyed.
I am not longer young but I offer myself to help restore it. Not with donations, talks or shows.
What can one do to get the job done before it is too late?

I believe that if you leave them alone, they will be spending their money on mansions, boats, (yachts) airplanes, high priced cars, luxury vacations, the best wines and liquors, motor homes, motorcycles, skidoos, etc. etc.! AND all of these things are taxed to the max. Not many of these are obtainable by the middle class, because of price. BUT it takes thousands of workers to create these things for the rich and super rich to buy, and that is creating EMPLOYMENT, and that is also called JOBS.! Take away TOO MUCH of their money, and they will hide it OVERSEAS and spend it on FOREIGN PRODUCTS.!

Your essay was really pointless and misses the reality of the situation. Our government is and has been operating outside the scope of the constitution for some time. Our first line of defence, the military, has let us down. I know this is blasphemy to your readers but the truth often appears to be just that. Our military is to defend us against foreign AND DOMESTIC enemies. They have not done this (although we are currently dismanteling a nation who our own government admits was never a threat to us in Libya). It is not time to take action. That time has come and gone.

Australia's Treasurer, a "bloke" by the name of Wayne Swan, has just announced his budget for 2011/12. It is a "do nothing"" budget that will not address our own crippling national debt. Our government is also heading in the wrong direction with a proposed "carbon tax" and a "super tax" on mining. Both will be disastrous for our economy.

When you consider what the dollar has done since he took office, look no further than Japan. One dollar now buys 80 yen, compared to two years ago when it was over 100 yen. As you have said before, both parties must share the blame - so it must be that both parties MUST abide by their oaths and restore this nation to the Constitutional rule of law upon which this nation was founded. But there are many in office in high places that can not comprehend them or just do not care to know them. These five documents are suposed to be the law, the foundation of this country. THE LAW OF THE LAND.

The President pledged to defend the constitotion and has failed to do so.
He has broken federal laws by not abiding by OUR constitution.
He and any of the same nature who wish to corrupt the LAW OF THIS LAND should be booted out of office like the common traitor that they are.
It is time to get down to business now not tomorrow but right now.
ACTION NOW the time for talk is over.
Get these trators out of office for not defending the constitution.

While I have never been professionally profiled it would not surprise me to find out that I am also 'crazy'. Having served our nation I find that the vast majority of our 'representatives' have violated their oath of office. The restoration of Constitutional Law is paramount to the saving of our country as we knew it (notice past tense). We must also teach the next generation not to succumb to the current narrative, find older history books read them daily and pass on those values that we cherish. The next generations liberty is depending on all of us. I took that oath almost 25 years ago, it has no statute of limitations.

Economic crises is the symptom. The problem is failure to acknowledge the sole and absolute source of our nation's authority. The cure will require all hands.

Inflation is also hoped for by our gov't to goose up home values to create equity. This will also escalate some of us into higher tax brackets to pay more taxes. But wait until USA needs to borrow and debt holders demand more % to cover default risk.... :(

I only see about 4 options before me.1) continue in the traditional way trying to find and vote in office someone who's honest and loves America who could make a change-possible positive outcome 5% or 2) maybe a state will breakaway and stand her ground and insist on freedom even if it means losing all federal monies .- possible positive outcome-7% or 3)The nation will hit the ground like a rotten fig and bust open and patriots will emerge and take the high ground. possible positive outcome- 10% or 4) nation falls to ground like rotten fig, much bloodshed, marshal law, one world govt. persecution of good guys- Jesus comes back to unscramble egg.. possible positive outcome- 95%. Just sayin.....

I am sick of this re-direction of attention. It was Republicans who gave BO his funding for our destruction. Doing the same thing will not change the direction we are headed. Another pretty boy puppet will not stop what has been happening for the last 50 years.
We are either willing to get behind the only man who has upheld the Constitution or we let the nonsense continue. Going the wrong direction is still going the wrong direction. Republicans and Democrats alike are responsible for failing to uphold the limitations of authority of the Constitution. Electing another big government voter with small government rhetoric will keep us headed toward the NATO driven take over of our country. Get your heads out of your butts and pay attention to history. The Republicans let the Democrats do whatever they want to do because they keep ditzing around with irrelevant issues and refuse to stand to uphold the Constitution. They will continue to do that as long as we continue to vote for them. JUST SAY NO to the pretty boys and vote for Ron Paul. HE IS THE ONLY ONE WE CAN TRUST.... TRUST.... TRUST THAT IS THE ONLY ISSUE THAT MATTERS! CAN WE TRUST HIM TO UPHOLD THE CONSTITUTION?
