America's Christian Heritage v Season's PC

"The Commander in Chief directs that divine Service be performed every Sunday at 11 oClock in those Brigades to which there are Chaplains; those which have none to attend the places of worship nearest to them. It is expected that Officers of all Ranks will by their attendence set an Example to their men. While we are zealously performing the duties of good Citizens and soldiers we certainly ought not to be inattentive to the higher duties of Religion. To the distinguished Character of Patriot, it should be our highest Glory to add the more distinguished Character of Christian. The signal Instances of providential Goodness which we have experienced and which have now almost crowned our labours with complete Success, demand from us in a peculiar manner the warmest returns of Gratitude and Piety to the Supreme Author of all Good." --George Washington, General Orders, (May 2nd, 1778)
Washington at Valley Forge

Each year, our family observes with due respect and reverence six national historic days of recognition: Patriots Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Constitution Day, Veterans Day and Thanksgiving.

However, the most hallowed religious observance for our family -- that with the most deeply rooted traditions, is Christmas. It is not a commercial feeding frenzy for us, but a quiet and reverent time of rest and celebration of the birth of Christ, punctuated by extended family festivities.

Unfortunately there is a perennial societal tension now associated with Christmas. If not for its dire implications for the future of Liberty, the seasonal contortions over "non-offensive greetings" would be humorous. The Left insists the word "Christmas" violates the phony "Wall of Separation" doctrine if a government employee deigns to utter it within earshot, and that it is too ethnocentric for corporate use.

Some years ago, The Patriot Post coined the greeting "Happy Christmahanakwamadan." We did so in response to the fashionable PC crowd's ludicrous demands for "inclusive faith neutral" greetings. We also published our legal department disclaimer outlining the terms of acceptance for the greeting as a counterpoint to retailers vying for your business who have instituted policies discouraging or outright prohibiting any mention of "Christmas." We do not challenge private sector employer's right to dictate corporate policies on such matters.

However, the ongoing campaign to censor Christmas from public forums is another matter.

For example, this year there were disturbing new guidelines advising members of Congress and government employees that it would be unethical and even illegal to use specific religious greetings in conversation and correspondence with constituents and service recipients. While Virginia Rep. Scott Rigell recorded his rejection of those guidelines, this is an ominous development and foreboding precedent.

Ironically, it's often these same censors who take shortcuts such as wishing folks "Happy Holidays" or "Merry Xmas." Perhaps they're unaware that the word holiday is derived from "Holy Day," and that Xmas is derived from combining the Greek letter "chi," denoting "Christ," with the Old English word for "Mass."

Meanwhile, over in the Executive Branch, Barack Hussein Obama recently found Jesus when dedicating the 60-foot-tall 2011 Capitol Christmas Tree. Of course, this was only in response to polls indicating that Christians give Obama his lowest job approval ratings. Turns out that Jesus Christ is conspicuously absent from the Capitol Christmas Tree in the form of any ornaments. The tree is adorned, however, with prominently placed handmade ornaments paying adoring tribute to Obama. When our colleagues at Media Research Center inquired about the lack of Christian ornaments, the Architect of the Capitol office responded, "There may be ornaments like those you describe near the top of the tree, or they could have been obscured or moved due to wind or weather."

No question there is a lot of "wind" around the White House these days.

For the record, civilian Inspectors General and military JAGs cause a lot of heartburn for millions of government and military personnel, who must constantly check their comments because they will lose jobs or advancements in rank because of any public remark that might be construed to advocate a particular theological viewpoint. However, there is no basis in our authentic Constitution for such stringent expurgation, and that would be the same venerable document that outlines the Liberties both civilian and military government employs pledge to "support and defend."

Our Founders, the framers of our Declaration of Independence and Constitution, had no such concerns about public expressions of faith, as none was warranted. Conversely, they were bold about promoting Christianity and speaking about their own faith.

Historian Peter Lillback, author of "Sacred Fire," an exhaustive scholarly treatise on George Washington, notes that it is only in recent years, with the searchable digital publication of our Founders' writings, that we get an accurate picture of their faith, and expression of same.

Lillback writes, "Washington referred to himself frequently using the words 'ardent,' 'fervent,' 'pious,' and 'devout.' There are over one hundred different prayers composed and written by Washington in his own hand. He described himself as one of the deepest men of faith of his day when he confessed to a clergyman, 'No Man has a more perfect Reliance on the alwise, and powerful dispensations of the Supreme Being than I have nor thinks his aid more necessary.' Although he never once used the word 'Deist' in his voluminous writings, he often mentioned religion, Christianity, and the Gospel. He spoke of Christ as 'the divine Author of our blessed religion.' He wrote of 'the blessed religion revealed in the Word of God.' He encouraged seekers to learn 'the religion of Jesus Christ.' He even said to his soldiers, 'To the distinguished Character of Patriot, it should be our highest Glory to add the more distinguished Character of Christian.'"

Believe it or not, Washington did not need to consult pollsters or focus groups, as General or President, before issuing proclamations of faith. He spoke them from his heart, just as most of our Founders did.

Here follows, in alphabetical order, a small sample of how other notable Founders expressed their faith.

John Adams: The general principles on which the fathers achieved independence were the general principles of Christianity. I will avow that I then believed, and now believe, that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable as the existence and attributes of God. ... The Christian religion is, above all the religions that ever prevailed or existed in ancient or modern times, the religion of wisdom, virtue, equity and humanity.

Samuel Adams: I [rely] upon the merits of Jesus Christ for a pardon of all my sins. ... I conceive we cannot better express ourselves than by humbly supplicating the Supreme Ruler of the world ... bringing in the holy and happy period when the kingdoms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ may be everywhere established, and the people willingly bow to the scepter of Him who is the Prince of Peace. ... We may with one heart and voice humbly implore His gracious and free pardon through Jesus Christ, supplicating His Divine aid ... [and] above all to cause the religion of Jesus Christ, in its true spirit, to spread far and wide till the whole earth shall be filled with His glory.

John Hancock: That the spiritual kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ may be continually increasing until the whole earth shall be filled with His glory.

Patrick Henry: Being a Christian ... is a character which I prize far above all this world has or can boast. ... The Bible is a book worth more than all the other books that were ever printed. ... This is all the inheritance I can give to my dear family. The religion of Christ can give them one, which will make them rich indeed.

John Jay: Condescend, merciful Father! to grant as far as proper these imperfect petitions, to accept these inadequate thanksgivings, and to pardon whatever of sin hath mingled in them for the sake of Jesus Christ, our blessed Lord and Savior; unto Whom, with Thee, and the blessed Spirit, ever one God, be rendered all honor and glory, now and forever. ... The Bible is the best of all books, for it is the word of God and teaches us the way to be happy in this world and in the next. Continue therefore to read it and to regulate your life by its precepts. ... Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation, to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.

Thomas Jefferson: I am a Christian in the only sense in which He wished anyone to be: sincerely attached to His doctrines in preference to all others. ... I am a real Christian -- that is to say, a disciple of the doctrines of Jesus Christ.

James Madison: I have sometimes thought there could not be a stronger testimony in favor of religion or against temporal enjoyments, even the most rational and manly, than for men who occupy the most honorable and gainful departments and [who] are rising in reputation and wealth, publicly to declare their unsatisfactoriness by becoming fervent advocates in the cause of Christ.

I saved my favorite quote on Christmas for last: "How many observe Christ's birth-day! How few, his precepts! O! 'tis easier to keep Holidays than Commandments." --Benjamin Franklin (1743)

My point in listing these snippets of wisdom from our Founders is to make the case plain that the Left's proscription on the expression of faith, censorship that is antithetical to the very existence of our Constitution and Liberty, will not cease until such expressions have been expelled from all public venues and forums. Then, and only then, can the rule of men fully supersede the Rule of Law.

Please join our team in prayer for our uniformed Patriot Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines serving in places far away, and especially for the families enduring their absence, so that we might once again celebrate Christmas as a free people.

As always, on behalf of our staff and National Advisory Committee, I am humbled to stand with you among the ranks of our Patriot countrymen. We wish peace and God's blessing upon you and your family.

Happy Holy Days and Merry Christ's Mass! And in keeping with the spirit of this season, remember that attitude is a reflection of gratitude -- a grateful heart leads to a joyful spirit!

P.S. If you have not already done so, please take a moment to support our 2011 Year-End Campaign today by making a contribution -- however large or small. If you prefer to support us by mail, please use our printable donor form.

Restricting or prohibiting Christmas may not affect some people's freedom or Liberty (notice I capitalize Liberty) but it (lack of Christmas) affects mine. I am a person of faith, a Christian. I care not if a person wishes not to celebrate Christmas, let them go to work on the 25th after all it is just another day to them. But for me, this time of year is sacred.

Yes I honestly believe it does as it gives some of the younger people, who are devoid of relegious training of anykind, the idea that Christmas is just another holiday for big stores to make a huge profit. They totally forget and ignore what the day is really all about.

We are supposed to have freedom OF religion not FROM religion. Prohibiting the use of certain religious words such as "Christmas" is an afront to individual freedom. Individuals freedoms are being lost at an alarming rate, as is individual thought.

I believe that prohibition of public religious expression threatens my liberty. Indeed, anti-religion is in itself a religion. Forcing the absense of religion is the very tyrany from which my ancestors fled and came to America and against which they gave their lives.

No government, anywhere on the face of the planet has the right to tell or force me what to believe. I believe Jesus is the Reason for the Season regardless of the ACLU or the ignorant politically correct crowd. I don't tell them what to believe, and don't expect the opposite from them. I am so thankful to be one of God's own, and glad that I have something to look forward to in death that it boggles my mind. Imagine being an atheist in the funeral home - all dressed up with no place to go. I don't judge others. They can believe whatever they choose, but I think, in the end, they will have no alternative, if they want eternal life, to believe in God the Creator and his son Jesus Christ.

I believe all should try to be happy and get along with each other. That said, freedom of speech and religion is guaranteed by the constitution. Period. Take both away and you have delt freedom a killer blow. If Merry Christmas offends someone, say Happy Holiday. If it offends you tell someone politely it does. We really have more important things to worry about in this country and the world.

I sure do believe that the elimination of christanity in public places delivers a message to the young and the hippy generation (the mush for brains) that Christians are not to have a voice and should be dis-reguarded. This has been in the works since or before WW2 and they have finally have a base known as liberals to carry it out!

I believe that it's unnecessary to promote religious displays or conduct in a government, military or corporate setting (including schools) and it excludes many of different faiths. Americans are free to promote their religion and display their religious belief at home and in their church, synagogue, mosque or any other place of worship. They are free to pray in their heads! However, putting one or two religions on constant public display during holiday seasons forces others that are not of those faiths to be inundated with another religion. I was particularly unhappy during my military career to be forced to hear chaplain prayers to Jesus Christ when I was not Christian. Prayers can be said that are INclusive, not EXclusive, but someone that is leading the prayer has to care about their audience in order to make the effort. In that same vein, saying Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas is not that difficult and it doesn't force your religion on others.

I am a Hindu, and this PC approach is not the proper way. The Constitution recognizes Almighty God but faith is upto the individual. To me personally, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, etc are as sacred as Happy Diwali and I do not object to different faiths; unless of course that faith (or cult) wishes to subjugate and subordinate the Country and the Citizens.

The question:

Do you believe that restricting public expressions of faith threatens Liberty?

Quite so. I believe that restricting publilc expressions of faith threatens Essential Liberty.

It would appear that those who consider it a civil crime to publicly declare one's deeply held religious beliefs publicly are thought-police. These people, whom we might identify as the Rabid Left, apparently would substitute their Big Brother-oriented belief system for what they would deny us.

Once again, reality has demonstrated the validity of the prophetic warnings or George Orwell and Aldous Huxley. The buzzword "INGSOC" (English Socialism) does not work for America. Perhaps the militant Left would prefer "USASOC"

As America's public sentiment, partisan politics and bureaucratic imperialism lean more and more to the left, our God-given and Constitutionally-guaranteed rights and privileges are slipping nearer and nearer to the gaping mouth of a great beast that would devour those rights and privileges.

God help us!

What about freedom of religion? Should we restrict Jews, Muslims, or any other faith from practicing their religion or displaying symbols of their faith in celebration of their holiday? The political correctness of the day is only that, what is seen as "the right thing to do" at any given time to suit the few who have no spiritual or religious affiliation. What ever happened to majority rule? I'm a Christian, practicing the spiritual path as laid out by Christ and am not offended by displays or references to Hanukah or Ramadan and am glad that peoples of all faiths can worship in their own way without fear of what I see as nothing more than "hate mongering".....I pity those who are not spiritually grounded.

The left believes in freedom of religion and expression for everyone except Christians and those of the Jewish faith. We need to note that the American Left has simply become today's persecutors of those who have accepted God's Revelation of himself, and joined the ranks of of many others from centuryies past. Their anti-christian and anti-semitic campaign is based in their hatred of God! Their relentless quest to diminish the US Constitution which was clearly written in recognition of the need for an Omniscient God to bless this nation, has the same roots! They would have you join their ranks, don't be fooled. Recognize that the left has become supportive of Islam for a reason, they have the same adgenda!

If anyone has read Chronicles of Narnia, one of the most egregious violations of Narnian founding principles was that the evil queen made it "always winter and never Christmas." And so it is here in the U.S. - always winter and never Christmas. What a loss to all people, whatever their persuasion!

All my life, we Christians have laid down and died before a few loud anti-Christian elements in order to prove our tolerance of all people and faiths. The net result is now the barring of our founding - and most precious - faith from the public forum in its entirety.

I feel certain that if we do not accompany the deliverance of our country from economic destruction with an equally profound and powerful spiritual deliverance in which Christian values are publicly stated, defended, lived, and honored by Christians, this beautiful dream of America is doomed.

Our money is a petty loss - our economy only a symptom, not a cause. Our faith, our character, ethics and morality coming from that faith, our public and family life based on a life of faith - losing these is truly losing our soul.

This suppression of the word "Christmas" is a ludicrous paean to the PC crowd. I know both Jews and Muslims who say "Merry Christmas" to me and who could care less that those words be used in salutations or advertising. I'm sure the PC folks can dig up a disaffected individual who would be "offended" or made to feel "uncomfortable" if those awful words were uttered to him, but my advice would be "get over it, knucklehead and try to find something worthwhile to do with your life."

Wheather public display or not is restricted, Amarican Christians need to stand up for their faith in God. The God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob, the one and only TRUE God. There are many church goers who no not know the Christ and profess they do. Such a shame.

The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution, part of the Bill of Rights. The amendment prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion.

Enough said.

Yes the issue of taking everything out of context is the basis for what we experience through the years of case law and the attacks we have on the founding Christian principles of this nation. Just think if Muslims were restricted; do you think this intolerance as we Christian face would be tolerated.

If we are ever going to reclaim equilibrium in this nation, we must first outlaw or at the very least publicly, decisively and forever disgrace the concept of Political Correctness.

We are the land of the free and that concept include free speech and expression. If that doesn't suit someone, let them find a more repressive society to live in, elsewhere.

Take a look at Obama and what he is saying about the average person getting $40 week more in their paychecks with the cut in the payroll tax rate. 2% (the cut) of the average salary would then be $2000 per week or $104,000 per year. Most people make much less than this per week, so he is being disingenuous about the $40 per week. He needs to be shown to be lying about the money people will be paying if the payroll tax rate cut is allowed to expire!

Yes, it restricts "our" liberties, actually restricting those of the people inside City Hall, but remember that we are entirely within our rights to RENT the property across from City Hall, or the PD, or even across from a public park, and put up the biggest live Christmas display we can, and there's nothing the atheists can do about it. Wouldn't it be a hoot to rent every building around the courthouse square (yeah, I know not every city has one) and surround government with religious displays? In regards to the restriction of religious terms in speech or writing by government personnel, I believe that it abridges their Constitutional right to free speech. I DO, however recall it requiring to support and defend those rights enumerated in the Constitution. All of this hullabaloo is being driven by those PC correct adherents who are so weak they could never win Liberty and therefor deserve it not!

ST. NICK RE-SANCTIFIED!

As Christmas drew near, the Lord we revere

gave this rhyme for His Special Day!

New words came so quick, with thoughts of St. Nick in my mind, like I heard Santa say:

“Dads, Moms, girls and boys, don’t focus on toys instead of our Savior so dear,

He is the Reason for this much blest Season,

and I want to make that quite clear!

“When I was a lad my heart was quite sad,

long before my name joined ‘the saints’!

If facts were made known, before His Light shone

in my heart, a few made complaints!

I confess some acts, done by boys in packs, included my part in their ranks,

But one day I vowed, confessing out loud:

‘Please forgive me, Lord, for my pranks?’

“By His grace bestowed, Christ lifted the load

of my sin confessed there that day,

The Jesus I’d spurned, I very soon learned,

had paid the debt I could not pay!

No virtue of mine, not one could I find,

as I searched my heart and my soul,

To justify Him forgiving my sin;

for cleansing and making me whole!

“Whatever the name attached to my fame,

be it St. Nick, or Santa Claus,

Take time, bow your head at His manger-bed,

take time in your shopping to pause!

No matter which name you use for my fame,

remember, when I come in view,

That same Jesus died, for you crucified!

I love Him; you should love Him, too”!

ABSOLUTELY our liberty is being restricted. Not only does the 1st Amendment guarantee our freedom OF religion, it specifically dictates that no laws should be enacted to prevent the free exercise thereof! For all those lawmakers/atheists out there, that means you are not supposed to be able to limit my expression of my beliefs. That seems to be the part that everyone forgets about in the "Wall of Separation" discussion.

The Constitution does not include a 'separation of church and state'. The restrictions that are being created/enforced by the courts are destroying our liberties and, if continued, will destroy our Great Country. We are a Christian Nation that can only survive if we remain 'One Nation Under God'. The current direction has been destroying our moral compass and, if we do not change our direction, we will be one Nation gone under.

Do you believe that restricting public expressions of faith threatens Liberty?

What part of "...nor the free exercise thereof..." is so hard to understand. So the answer is YES! Anytime the Federal Government in any of its forms IGNORE the Constitution of the United States it is a violation of my freedom, BY DEFINITION!

I am a retired Army Sergeant's Major, currently work as an Army Civilian and even though we have been directed that we will not use the term Merry Christmas to describe the time of year, I refuse to abide. To express happy holidays, best wishes, joyous season, regardless of the verbiage, it is the celebration of our Savior Jesus Christ's birth. This is the beginning of eternal life for me though the birth of Jesus to his crucification and death. Christmas is the day man has chosen to celebrate this wonderous day. God Bless all those who believe, God Bless our Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen, and Coast Guards Men, and God Bless America.

Of course it does. It's a direct violation of the First Amendment. As is 90% of the government a direct violation of the Constitution.

I'm a veteran, I will always defend our right to be free, our right to speak out against those that would try to silence us. We need a strong government that can allow us to make our own choices and to work as we see fit. Let's get back to the government of the PEOPLE. I can't understand how there can be a 'wall of separation' regarding religious expression instituted by the First Amendment, when the same clause goes on to explicitly prohibit government from making any law 'prohibiting the free exercise thereof'. Are there no Judges or lawyers with the capacity to read beyond 10 words?

YES!!!The Communist goals of 1963 expressly states in #27&28 that all references to religion must be destroyed and discredited. The progressives in the Kremlin on the Potomac are doing their best to destroy religion as fast as possible. We MUST stop this decline as fast as possible.

This is truly over the top! Censoring our use of traditional holiday greetings is a direct attack on our civil rights. Either the first amendment applies or we may as well scrap the entire Constitution. I pray Americans will wake up in time to save this country!

I don't doubt that there are non-comitted persons who are not offended by the retailers negative attitude concerning Christmas; however those who recognize that our country was founded on Christian principals and are Christian committed to salvation through acceptance of Christ as their personal savior, who died for us upon the cross, should let it be known that they will not do business with them..

Let’s not forget the part about defending the Constitution against enemy’s foreign and domestic either. We seem to have forgotten that the Constitution prohibits ANY religious test for (federal) public office. We may not require any religious affiliation of any federal officeholder (or candidate): NEITHER may we deny any candidate or officeholder any particular religious viewpoint or affiliation. Both candidates and elected officials are constitutionally assured of the liberty to express their personal religious viewpoint without that view disqualifying them for office.

The Constitution offers us freedom OF religion. The courts and PC'ers are interpreting the Constitution, against the ideals of the foundnders and authors, as freedom FROM religion. True, the founders did not want a state mandated religion. Their thought was religious practice as you wished it in the Christian tradition. Of course, it did take a while to convince them that Catholics are Christians as well.

Charles Sproull

PLEASE PROTECT OUR ORIGINAL "WALL OF SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE"

Using Library of Congress and FBI references, I have done a lot of research into the intended meaning of Jefferson's "wall of separation of church and state" and it's relation to our 1st Amendment rights. That "wall of separation" was supposed to:

(1) Separate the administration of government and religion, and prevent the establishment of a dominant Protestant denomination from becoming a State religion (this also applies to modern catholic, Islam and other pagan religions).

(2) Protect American citizens from tyrannical government-controlled religion, and from religion-controlled government like the ones that existed in England and Europe, when our Founders separated themselves by 3,000 miles of water to come here. This could even include protection from the “sharia law” that Islamics (a tyrannical political-religious group) are trying to impose on America, like they have in the Detroit area and mid-East and European countries.

(3) Allow all American citizens freedom to express their Bible-based religious convictions (whether public employees, in uniform, or private citizens, regardless of Protestant sect) while on tax-payer funded government property as well as their own private property. In fact, no one in America has a Constitutional right to prevent anyone else from expressing his or her faith, any time and where; as long as it is honest, good natured and respectful, and not belligerent and hateful lies.

There are no exception clauses in the 1st Amendment that state or imply freedom of expression, except if it:

(a) offends atheists and other non-believers, or

(b) disagrees with beliefs of personnel in higher management positions.

Also, that wall has a door that:

(4) Allows God's righteous influence (which is not religion, but is honesty, unselfishness, high moral standards) into our individual Government leaders’ decision-making, legislation, voting, and spending of our tax-money; and

(5) Allows outward personal expressions of their faith in God, not just as their religion, but as principles of the high quality of life.

In fact, this “Wall” actually protects us from the very things subversive groups like ACLU, HRC and PP are trying to do. They are trying to separate our Government leaders from God’s beneficial influences. As long as we have a 1st Amendment and a Congress to protect our freedoms, who needs the ACLU? They are an organization of Atheists, Communists, Liberals Unconstitutionalists, wasting our tax money, trying to do what our Constitution prohibits our Congress from doing. Regarding their ability to comprehend our Constitution, free enterprise and capitalistic society, they haven’t a clue (A-CLU). They need to be de-funded!!!

Our Constitution cannot be used by anyone to justify being offended by our good beliefs, or to restrict our freedom of expression, or to justify dishonesty. Any legal “wall of separation” should divide:

expressions that are respectful, true and beneficial from expression and actions that are dishonest, profane, immoral.

When taken correctly, in its original context, that “Wall of Separation” actually prevents anyone, whether Government official or private citizen or group, from limiting our freedom to respectfully express religious beliefs. This is how people can learn from each other about the good concepts in each other’s religions, and overcome the false concepts.

Freedom for religious and non-religious Americans is enhanced by Government staying totally uninvolved, without positive or negative regulations, and allowing God’s influence into our schools through the voluntary efforts of students groups, parents, teachers and preachers.

As long as Congress does not make laws to: (1) support a particular religion (in violation of the 1st Amendment Establishment clause), and (2) does not prohibit beneficial expressions (ie; Ten Commandment displays on Court House property, “One Nation Under God” in our Pledge of Allegiance, and Christmas Manger scenes, prayer “in Jesus’ name”, singing hymns of praise and devotion to our Creator, and Bible studies in public schools (in violation of the Free Exercise clause): these should not be considered as “Government endorsement of a particular religion.”

ACLU, HRC, PP and atheists, you are invited to study the Bible and learn more about God’s love, joy, peace and holiness.

Of course it does. And the wording of the United States Constitution specifically says in the First Amendment, "CONGRESS SHALL MAKE NO LAW respecting an establishment of religion. . ."

Restricting public expressions of faith by government is illegal and unconstitutional. We should be fining atheists and agnostics and our cities and schools every time they forbid a public expression of faith.

Many of the Founding Fathers including Washington, Jefferson and Franklin were Deists and Freemasons. They were not orthodox Christians, but they respected the teachings of Jesus. They were concerned with the morals and the behavior of the new nation. But above all they feared a theocracy.

The limitations employers place on the free excercise of religion by their employees in the workplace to simply say, "Merry Christmas', is a blatant attempt to eviscerate the very nature of the Christmas Season and the reason millions everywhere celebrate the birth of our Divine Savior. Shame on those employers who will not stand up and say it is a 'right' guaranteed by the first amendment and should not be abridged. Whether we are a "Christian Nation' or not has nothing to do with our 'right' of freedom to practice our religion as long as it does not injure someone else. And simply saying "Merry Christmas', to my knowledge, has never injued anyone.

Yes, it threatens our Liberty. It "threatens" is the key here. If public expressions become restricted by whomever and "enforced", then will come the banned books and/or book burnings followed in part by some sort of censoring of all information on all our electronic media tools. This will only be the start of the downfall of Liberty and Freedom to be followed by a newer version of the "Holocaust." Any and all religions and expressions thereof where the benefit to mankind is "good" as opposed to "bad or evil" should not be restricted at all. That being said, "I wish All of you and your families, "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year."

One VA Patriot

I just received this from Catholic Vote. I have not requested permission to reprint its contents here, but believe the message is too compelling.

Our Christmas message to you this year is a bit different. To commemorate the freedoms we cherish as Americans, I thought you you would enjoy this amazing story about how President Reagan demonstrated his solidarity with the Polish people thirty-years ago. This article was written for the CatholicVote Blog by historian Dr. Paul Kengor.

Finally, be sure to look out for our annual Top 10 Reasons for Hope special message coming next week.

Merry Christmas from all of us at CatholicVote.

Christmas 1981 - A Flame for Freedom in Poland

December 2011 might not be an anniversary on the minds of American Catholics, but it is close and near and dear to the hearts of Polish Catholics. As American Catholics, we ought to pause here, today, to consider why. The reasons are historically and even spiritually inspiring.

It was 30 years ago, December 13, 1981, that martial law was imposed upon Poland by the communist government. Poles were aghast, horrified, frightened. And so was the man in Rome, a Polish native named John Paul II, and so was another man thousands of miles away in Washington, DC, President Ronald Reagan.

When word of the communists’ actions reached the White House, President Reagan was furious. He wanted to help the people of Poland in any way he could. At that very moment, Reagan committed to save and sustain the Polish Solidarity movement as the wedge that could splinter the entire Soviet bloc, as the first crack in the Iron Curtain.

One of Reagan’s first responses was to call someone he deeply respected: John Paul II. On December 14, he told the Holy Father: “Our country was inspired when you visited Poland, and to see their commitment to religion and belief in God. It was an inspiration…. All of us were very thrilled.”

At that point, Reagan had not yet met John Paul II in person. Reagan had been president only for 11 months. Both he and John Paul II had been shot earlier in the year. Reagan told the Pope that he looked forward to a time when the two men could meet in person. The imposition of martial law added a special urgency. Reagan wanted to meet with the Pope to plan ways to cooperate.

Reagan followed up with two letters to John Paul II, dated December 17 and 29, 1981, neither of which was declassified until July 2000. In the December 17 letter, he asked the Pope to urge Poland’s General Jaruzelski to hold a meeting with Lech Walesa and the Poland’s Archbishop Glemp. In the second letter, Reagan explained the counter-measures his administration was taking against the USSR; he also asked the Pope to use his influence with the Polish Church to lift martial law, to gain the release of detainees, and to resume a dialogue with Solidarity; and he requested that John Paul II press other Western countries to join the United States. “If we are to keep alive the hope for freedom in Poland,” said Reagan, “it lies in this direction.”

There is much more I could say about all of this, having written books on the subject, but one item that happened precisely 30 years ago, right now, on December 23, 1981, is especially moving and notable:

On that date, Reagan held a private meeting in the White House with the Polish ambassador, Romuald Spasowski, and his wife, both of whom had just defected to the United States. Michael Deaver, a close Reagan aide, witnessed the meeting. Deaver later recorded:

The ambassador and his wife were ushered into the Oval Office, and the two men sat next to one another in plush-leather wingback chairs. Vice President Bush, and the ambassador’s wife, sat facing them on a couch.

The ambassador had in his hand a pocket-sized note pad with wire rings and lined paper, and he was obviously referring to notes he wanted to give to the president of the United States. Meanwhile, his wife, a tiny, delicate-looking woman, kept her head in her hands the entire time, while George Bush put an arm around her shoulders to comfort her.

The ambassador said, “It is unbelievable to me that I am sitting in the office of the president of the United States. I wish it were under better circumstances.”

He begged the president never to discontinue Radio Free Europe. “You have no idea,” he said, “what it meant to us to hear the chimes of Big Ben during World War Two. Please, sir, do not ever underestimate how many millions of people still listen to that channel behind the Iron Curtain.”

Then, almost sheepishly, he said, “May I ask you a favor, Mr. President? Would you light a candle and put in the window tonight for the people of Poland?”

And right then, Ronald Reagan got up and went to the second floor, lighted a candle, and put it in the window of the dining room.

Later, in what I still recall as the most human picture of the Reagan presidency, he escorted his guests through the walkway and out to the circular drive on the South Lawn of the White House. In a persistent rain, he escorted them to their car, past the C-9 Secret Service post, holding an umbrella over the head of the wife of the Polish ambassador, as she wept on his shoulder.

That candle might have brought to mind those lit after Mass by a young Karol Wojtyla. Then and now, they burned bright for Russia’s conversion.

But Reagan did more than that. That evening, with Christmas only two days away, the president gave a nationally televised speech watched by tens of millions of Americans. He connected the spirit of the Christmas season with events in Poland: “For a thousand years,” he told his fellow Americans, “Christmas has been celebrated in Poland, a land of deep religious faith, but this Christmas brings little joy to the courageous Polish people. They have been betrayed by their own government.” He made an extraordinary gesture: The president asked Americans that Christmas season to light a candle in support of freedom in Poland.

This was a remarkable display, one that placed all Americans on the side of freedom for Poland—and against the communists.

I’m sure it was appreciated, too, by a Polish Catholic named Karol Wojtyla.

Thirty years ago, December 1981, the communists tried to turn out the lights in Poland. But like a candle in the White House window, Ronald Reagan and John Paul II and the people of Poland kept a flicker of hope alive.

It may seem like a long time ago, distant to the interests of Americans today. In truth, this was a crucial turning point for the world, for freedom, and for faith. It is a history lesson worth taking to heart, especially this Christmas.

they see fit to continue to bless our country and our peoples. We thank you for what you have blessed our dear country with, a bountiful harvest in all categories and endeavors. I pray that God and Jesus Christ will once again be prevalent in our Schools and in the minds and hearts of our children while they are young and grow up being aware of your awesome and unending powers, and that prayer is very important for all of us, to make us a more stable society and respect mankind and the precepts that this country was founded on. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

The First Amendment of the constitution specifically defines our Freedom of Speech, as well as our Freedom OF Religion. If these were not the two most important rights, among "inalienable rights", they would not have been listed first.

Public expressions of faith without fear of reprisal would be the definition of Liberty. Why did the pilgrims flee the repressive regimes of Europe, if not to express their faith without persecution? God bless those who remember Him and help us reach those who have lost Him.

Well, so long as it's only Christian faith being oppressed, no. That seems to be the mindset of the media and the left, never mind they profit from the Holy Day, so long as they can still make a buck and marginalize it, all is good. Funny thing about secularists and, especially, atheists, since they don't believe there is a God and there is nothing at the end, according to what I know of scripture, THEY'LL BE RIGHT! Which is fine with me, more room above.

America is a Christian nation, no matter what Obamma says. Therefore, I believe Christians have the right to express their beliefs as they always have. This country was formed by people wanting religious freedom and it was set up that way. Our pledge of allegance contains the words "one nation under God". I believe that gives each person the right to express that belief. I haven't read all the posting, but I'm sure someone has probably already stated, basically, what I have just said.

18 The LORD is near to all who call on him,

to all who call on him in truth.

19 He fulfills the desires of those who fear him;

he hears their cry and saves them.

20 The LORD watches over all who love him,

but all the wicked he will destroy.

21 My mouth will speak in praise of the LORD.

Let every creature praise his holy name

for ever and ever.

Father, on this day I praise you and give you thanks for your blessings on our Nation. I bring before you all the men and women serving in our military and ask that you guide, protect and reward them for sacrifices made on behalf of their

country. Keep them and their families safe in your care. May their sacrifices and the sacrifices of those who have gone before them not be in vain.

Because of men and women such as these our nation remains “One Nation Under God”. I pray that our present generation will pass to the next generation holy reverence and fear for the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; May we honor your word through our obedience. These blessings I ask in the precious name of Jesus Christ, always. AMEN!

Having read that portion of Blackstone's Commentaries on the Law that pertain to religious freedom, I find that the first amendment's proscription on the establishment of religion requires that some penalty must be placed on those who will not profess or at least attend services of that religion which is being established. If there is no tax or penalty (such as fine or imprisonment) placed on those who will not give subservience to the established religion then it is not an established religion as they are free to practice their own. Therefore, governments are free to promote a religion, as our forefathers did, by their statements, inscriptions on buildings, general orders to servicemen or other means. It is not an establishment as long as no cumpulsion is applied. The fact that one may see or hear of a religion in their day to day activities is not a violation of their freedom of religion, even if those intrusions into their daily lives come from the government. As long as they may freely practice their own religion, or lack thereof, without retribution the first amendment has been upheld.

A Christmas Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, be with us as we stumble and struggle with our devotion. Forgive us for forgetting that you are the Author of all our freedoms and the Architect of this great nation. May we once again be worthy of the gift of liberty as we reconnect with our faith through prayer and thanksgiving.

Father, be with the soldiers who give of their lives so generously to defend our faith and freedoms. Grant them grace and see that their families are cared for as befits these warriors. May we always remember that freedom is not without a high price, but with faith and a belief in God, we can once again be worthy of your love.

As you came into this world to bring us your goodness, let us remember to share not only our worldly wealth, but our faith with all those we meet that we might appropriately celebrate this momentous occasion.

We thank you for all our blessings and pray that we may continue as a nation and a people to remain worthy of your benevolence.

Equally explicite was a statement made by John Adams who wrote "Our Constitution wad mad only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly indadequate to the government of any other"

Benjamin Franklin added a final warning "Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become more corrupt and vicious, the have only need of masters"

Lets celebrate this season by giving credit to God who brought together our founding fathers under Christian principles that made this wonderful Repuplic what it was supposed to be.

The restriction on the public expression of anything and everything threatens liberty. If one thing can be restricted, what's next? So of course religious expression is included in this. It is ironic that public expressions of faith are outlawed while hot and cold running pornography runs a constant tap.

The first amendment does not seek to prevent citizens from worshiping - just the opposite. It seeks to prevent Congress from preventing such free worship by preventing Congress from establishing one religion over another as the official church of the USA or prevent any of the States from doing so.

Father God, During this Holiest Season we celebrate the birth of Your Son, Jesus. Knowing that You would be giving Him up for the sins of Your people, You did so willingly, just so that we could have a way, Your way to commune with You. Thou art a loving Father, we thank You for Your gift to man, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, through which all is possible. Father God, during this time of year we are hit by all of the hype about gift giving and buying and spending, You help to keep the reason for this season. Only through You can we ever have hope for peace, and strength to oppose the evil that infests this world. Father God we ask that You please watch over the members of the Armed Forces that give their lives daily and devote all of their efforts for our safety and to keep them near Your heart and protect them Father God. Be with their families and give them the strength to endure their absences. Know also Father God that many a Marine, Sailor, Air Force, Soldier, Coast Guardsman do believe in You and Your Love. Father God we implore that You be with the elected officials of this government and give them the wisdom to seek Your advise in all things. Please, Dear Father, we ask that You especially be with the President and guide him to follow Your teachings and to keep the United States the Greatest Nation on Earth, but we must allow You to come back into our country. In Jesus' Holy name Father God we ask all this and Your Blessings upon all of the Patriot Families and allow them to keep the truth coming forth with Your guidance. Now Father God, Please be with us all as we go forth to be with our families during this season of togetherness and to please remember that You have already given the Greatest Gift of all. Your Son, Our Savior, Jesus Christ, for it is in His name we ask all of these blessings. Amen.

He gave us life, and at the same time gave us freedom to choose. If we could not make a free choice, there is no love. Some choose yes and many choose no. This is the season of Love whereby the faithfull give to each other their love, asking nothing in return. When we love others as Christ loves us, we honor Him. He measures love by His standards and cannot ask any less from us. Faith, Hope, Love, but the greatest is Love. Merry Christmas to all at the Patriot Post.

I am atheist, not "an Atheist". I celebrate Christmas. Whether one believes in the divinity of Christ or that Jesus was a man who preached good works is irrelvent - the holy day, or holiday, is a celebration of good will, and good deeds. The militant Atheist who is offended by the incursion of religion into public life is uninformed. He doesn't realize that his active lack of belief is, in itself, a religion. He denigrates faith in God as fiction, but doesn't see his faith in the lack of a God as equally unscientific.

The Greek phrase "atheist" is two words, "a theist", with the "a" being the general negative. "Without God" is a better translation - and "without" doesn't mean "anti". Science is a beautiful thing, but so is faith - and they are not mutually exclusive.

Christmas is Christmas, whether one views it as a sacred time or not. It is a combination of all the virtues, those celebrated by the pagans at the winter solstice and those celebrated by Christians as the birth of Jesus. Calendars have changed over the centuries, dates are a bit of a fiction - the important thing is that a date is chosen.

I shall sing some hymns and carols on Christmas day, I will think of my friends and family, those lost and those still here. It is an important day to me, and I will wish everyone a Merry Christmas.

I repeat, it is a religious holy day to some, and a secular holiday to others - but it has a name, and the name is Christmas. My tree is adopted from Germanic pagans, the presents from a Christian saint's giving to the poor (Nicholas). There is no dichotomy between the "Christ in Christmas" and the pagan ceremony - it is up to each of us to see it our own way. But it is Christmas for all.

BTW, the English say Happy Christmas instead of Merry Christmas.

Best, Jon

The "wall of seperation" between Church and State in nowhere to be found in the constitution. Its origins can be found in the teachings of one Justice Hugo Black, a FDR appointed justice, a former Klu Klux Klansman, to eppress his hatred for the Roman Catholic church and its parochial schools.

It is yet another product of religious bigotry, nothing less. It is also alien to the beliefs and teachings of our founding fathers.

Yes, indeed, our freedoms are being short-sheeted! You know, I saw mention of important holidays in America which have deep meaning to Christian patriots...but...Where is Easter? Without the death and resurrection, the manger is an incomplete thing.

At Christmas, my family try to point out that the birth of Christ is one of the two most monumentally important days in all of recorded time...Easter being the day that completes Christmas.

BTW if you read the Constitution, there is not mention #1 anywhere about separation of church and state...we are told that Congress shall make no law that tries to govern (or hogtie!) our freedom of worship! Much like many other things, MAN has corrupted something good until it is no longer recognizable.

The government is putting its nose way too far inside our citizenry's lives. Isn't it a funny thing that when we mention "god", people don't feel too horribly offended...it is the mention of Jesus Christ that gets them hot under the collar.

I deeply resent government and its "satellites" telling me...no, ordering me...to change Christmas and how I celebrate and observe it! When I go into a store that has "holiday trees" or "holiday decor" or "holiday sales"...I walk right up to a floor person and say to them, "Pardon me. WHAT holiday is this stuff for?" They always say, "Christmas." Then I say, "Then why isn't all this stuff called Christmas stuff?" They answer, "We're not allowed to say 'Christmas' any more. I ask them exactly what other holiday this stuff possible COULD be there for! Nobody so far has been able to answer me. Several told me, "Christmas is a pagan holiday, nobody even had trees and lights, they were forbidden in Christianity." My response: Christmas was the day believers chose to celebrate the birth of Christ, to separate themselves from the pagan observances ongoing at the same time. It probably does not coincide with the true date of His birth at all...and the objection to trees and lights stemmed from fears that man would begin to worship THOSE instead of the Light of the World, Jesus! And look what's happened...the mention of Christmas, which means to set aside this day to worship Christ, has been removed steadily until we DO put all our emphasis on trees and lights!

As a Christian and a patriot, I believe my Bible when it tells me that Christ has called us all to "go ye therefore and make disciples of all nations." That means that regardless of what atheism, agnosticism, government, etc., try to force me to do, I am NOT going to stop saying "Merry Christmas" any more than I'll stop mentioning my precious Savior any other day of the year! Keep spreading that Gospel, people! Keep praying! Whether it's PC or not, JESUS CHRIST IS LORD OF LORDS, KING OF KINGS, WHO DIED AND ROSE AGAIN TO GIVE MAN ETERNAL LIFE.. That is the real Christmas message, our hope and eternity with Him...and it's a message for every day... and it can never be stolen from us, and we must not EVER allow it to be muted or silenced!

Congressmen are forbidden to wish their constituents "Merry Christmas". Yet an islamic "scholar" tells us that saying "Merry Christmas" is a crime worse than murder! To that "scholar", whose name I don't care to know, I say Merry Christmas. And I will continue to do so until Congress repeals the Act by which they declared December 25th to be Christmas Day, a national holiday. The only holiday on which the Post Office will not deliver Special Delivery Mail.

And if that "scholar" disagrees with the laws of the land, I suggest he start swimming toward Mecca. And Merry Christmas!

Religion in of itself is not a problem until it is forced upon an indivudual or group that has a different set of beliefs derived by their geografic and societal upbringing. The problem is that religion does not tolerate "other religions". Each one competeing for relevance by aquiring power and influence over the others Christians for example like to say America was founded on Christian principles but the the reality is Christianity wasn't the first religion in America nor was it readilly accepted by it's "original citizens" but was in fact forced upon them and used to justify inhumane treatment and even killing of original citizens. Sadly, most Christians (since there seems to be an issue of legitemacy for the season)don't even know the history of the belief system they have chosen for themselves. There are 33,000 denominations of Christianity in the world and 2,200 of them exist in the Americas. All have slightly different beliefs built around other older polytheistic systems using concepts of virgin birth, performing miracles, resurrection as well as others claimed as "Christian principles".

Religion, like government, is used to control the masses through fear and intimidation of punishment or even death if certain rules are not followed and both are socialistic structures of governance that chips away at any idea of individualism or self worth. The bible teaches us "You are not worthy except by the grace of God", "You are born into sin", "No one reaches the kingdom of heaven except through Me" and creates a welfare state of mind discouraging soveriengty.

MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Bless ALL members of our military and their families, now and through out the year.

And to Barack Hussein Muhammad Obama and his spouse...

Psalm - 109. Verses 8 through 13.

8. Let his days be few; and let another take his office.

9. Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.

10. Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.

11. Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labor.

12. Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favor his fatherless children.

13. Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.

Amen.

"So it is written. So let it be done!"

Faith is a personal thing, however this country would not exist if not for Chritian faith. Those among us of other religions take pride in your beliefs . Forgive us Cristians for expressing our faith loudly and publicly a few times a year. After all if America had not been based on Christianity it is quite likely it would not be the country of choice for religious freedom and immigrants seeking a better life.

In a preceding comment, the commentator was correct in his assessment that most Christians do not know the history of Christianity. But he was terribly mistaken in saying that Christianity is " built around other older polytheistic systems using concepts of virgin birth, miracles, resurrection, etc." To correct his view of Christian history it must be said that Jesus Christ is the only God that ever was Incarnate, and the only One that was ever resurrected. Christianity is not a "polytheistic" system, we have only one God. The Blessed Virgin Mary is the only virgin to have ever conceived a Child by God, and the only virgin to have ever given birth to God, she is the Mother of God, but she is not God. The Most Holy and Blessed Trinity is but one God - three Persons, but one God: God the Father, God the Son (JESUS), and God the Holy Spirit. And his statement that "Religion, like government, is used to control the masses through fear and intimidation of punishment or even death if certain rules are not followed...." is utterly false!! I have been all over the world, seen many people of different religions and have never seen nor heard from any of them that their religion was being used by the government to control them. Nor can I find any historical evidence of such a claim. Tyrannical and dictatorial forms of government do not need religion to "control the masses". Religious "cults" pop up from time to time that may employ some of these fear tactics, but they are few and far between, and do not in any way represent main line religions. My family has been Catholic for generations, upon generations, and not one story has come down regarding fear and intimidation from Catholicism, but only stories of prejudice and persecution from governments, and haters. Atheistic communist governments do not value life, and have no problem killing their own people. What they need is Christianity. If all the world were Christian, there would be no wars, no abortions, etc. Jesus is Love. Love is kind.

When we allow society to remove Christ from Christmas, and if we neglect to celebrate Christ's Mass at Christmas, then Christmas becomes nothing more than a commercial exercise for the secular and the ignorant. As for my family, I pray that we will always celebrate Christ's Mass for Christmas. Trees and presents and Santa Clause are all lots of fun, but that is not Christmas. How many of our friends and family read Christmas stories to their children and convince them to believe in Santa, but yet refuse to convince them to believe in Christ, who is the true reason for the season.

Keep the Mass in Christmas!

O Heavenly Father. Once again we seek your Divine Guidance to return our great nation to that which our founders created, based on the ideas of individual freedom and the equality of man.

With the passing of time, these historically unique principles, which have succored this nation for 236 years have become increasingly eroded. Indeed, eroded to the extent that members of our own House of Representatives, the Peoples House, have been forbidden to wish their constituents a Merry Christmas lest someone become uncomfortable remarking on the birth of your son Jesus.

Many men and women have fought and many have died defending the concept of freedom, including free speech. And though some 30,000 of our gallant warriors have returned home to their families and loved ones this Christmas, over 300,000 are still at war defending those freedoms in the name of "The Prince of Peace". Remember them, and wish them God's protection.

We ask this in Jesus' name. Amen

Threaten liberty? I really don't think so. I truly think that the vast majority is just playing by the PC rules. I went to my (small) branch of a regional bank and my regular teller wished me "have a happy holiday". I asked her, "what holiday" and she replied "Christmas", of course. She said that as an employee she was told that she could only say "happy holiday". I told her that as a customer I thought the policy was BS (and did not abbreviate). The three customers waiting in line all smiled and wished me Merry Christmas on my way out. Tell these politically correct robots how you feel and you will be amazed at the responses.

Everyone is mixed up on just what separation of church and state is.

THE GOVERNMENT CANNOT DICTATE TO YOU WHICH RELIGION YOU HAVE, CANNOT FORM AN OFFICIAL RELIGION THAT PEOPLE CAN BE JAILED OR BURNED AT THE STAKE FOR GOING AGAINST.

Our founding fathers came from an era when governments were burning people at the stake for not being the religion their king or queen dictated the people must have. Their bishops were part of the government and had palaces of their own.

It never meant people in government should never have a religion. It meant the government could not tell its citizens what to believe. That's all.

I believe restricting my right to express myself on what I truly believe is a day of celebrating the birth of my savior is infringing on my right to express myself. Christmas is a Christian holiday. If it wasn't for the birth of Jesus there would be no holiday. If you don't believe in Christ as your savior then you shouldn't be celebrating this great expression of love to Christ. Please feel free to go to work for me on this holiday so I may enjoy it with my family. Restricting what I say, as long as it isn't obscene, is infringing on my rights as an American. What is going to become of our great nation if we can't exercise our freedoms given to us by our founding fathers? God bless America. Merry Christmas to all.

Morning Glory

Sweet Jesus,

As a nation, we are in such a mess at this point in time. You have been so faithful to deliver us from evils in the past, and we call on You one more time to cover us, as a nation, with your precious Blood. Begin to heal American by healing Your people. Touch our hearts, minds, and souls. Begin to work YOUR perfect will in our lives. Allow us to once more be that beacon of hope; that city set on a hill; that place where those in dire straits seek refuge. Open our eyes to our Godly heritage and our minds to our spiritual roots. Once again, send revival to sweep over us, to renew us, to draw us back to You. You are our only hope, our only salvation. You alone can stop this on-slaught of satan against us. We implore You to hear the cries of Your children.

Stand beside those who have fought the good fight in our armed forces. Be to them whatever they need You to be. Protect those who continue to be in harm's way; comfort those who have returned home but remain trapped in the violences of war; strengthen those who were injured in combat. Jesus, walk the aisles of the hospitals, the rehabilitation centers, the bedsides in homes touching each precious warrior who is suffering. Ease their pain and bring them the peace that only comes from You. We ask these things in faith, believing that Your Word is true and righteous; You cannot lie. We praise You for who You are and what You are going to do. Here am I, Lord, use me.

We are a Christian nation and have a right to a Merry Christmas and a Christmas tree. Others can celebrate or not celebrate according to their desires. Those who want to dictate how or how not to observe the holiday definatly are trying to take Christ out of America in any form. I believe they are a vocal minority who would impose their non-beief on all. They are the Scrooges of society. Let them be miserable if that is their wish but let us celebrate Christmas.

We celebrate Christmas just like evryone does because of "tradition" and our children....BUT Dec. 25 is the probable date of Jesus's conception not His birth. However, the bible tells a diff story. If we go to John The Baptist's date of birth, as a reference, Jeuss Christ was born 6 months later...and Dec. 25 is not the date of conception.

Congress is prohibited from passing any law (for or against) "...respecting an establishment of religion". Homosexuality on TV, in music, and the movies is constantly bombarding my senses with 'their' agenda. Demonstrations, OWS and most of all the indoctrination and near brainwashing in the public school system really offends me. Teaching the religion that brought down the World Trade Center in California schools, along with the display of the Mexican flag while at the same time telling Americans that God and Old Glory offends them, is the pinnacle of hypocrisy. They cram theirs on me, and cry fowl when I display my belief in my Lord, but worse our courts now seem to support them. What happened to "freedom of religion"?

Private citizen expressions of Merry Christmas, etc. are not prohibited by the Constitution which sought to make government religion-neutral not the private citizen. However, what about the Jehovah's Witness or others who do not share our Christian heritage/holidays? If they are offended, are we saying "too bad!" by ignoring their sensibilities and are we doing damage to our own concepts of sensitivity to minority views, our melting pot heritage that allows for and honors individual differences and beliefs?

I am privileged to have met my Great-Grandfather, John Marion Fox, when I was about 3 years old (1945). He was in his 90s and on his death bed but still alert and cheerful, so I got to sit by him for a minuts and he hugged me and blessed me. As a very young boy he carried buckets of water to a camp of Confederate soldiers camped on his father's farm. I feel I have touched history. My Mother told me about my Great-Grandparents and I watched my Grandfather Fox reading his Bible every time we visited. Their faith was a way of life, I know what they believed and what their ancestors believed. We are all Protestants descended from Protestants who came to America to flee religious persecution. Now I see religious persecution from the left-wing liberals once again. Its subtle but getting bolder everyday. Our preachers are afraid to preach the gospel and many people will not stand against the sinful society America has become. I pray God will intervene soon.

PLease excuse the mistake. If I post again it will be Linda Sue, the Great-Grandaughter of patriot John Marion Fox. Another religious Protestant ancestor of mine is Capt.John Bissell of Connecticut and founder of the ancient town of East Windsor, CT. This family line is thought to be Huguenots, who also came to America to flee religious persecution. The thing is, they believed in some religious tolerance but did not believe Satanism, Witchcraft and such as that were to be tolerated. In their innocence they believed it would be understood that only Christian or jewish religion would be allowed to flourish in the new world and of course they had never heard of Scientology, Jehovah's Witnesses, 7 Day Adventists and Mormons. As for Islam that would not have been tolerated in the new country. People who are not connected in anyway with the original founders of this country America do not understand its origin or its founding families. Thos who immigrated decades and centuries later started changing what did not need changing and "tolerance" is once again ruining America.

Completely inaccurate. There is a good reason for he separation of church and state. We are not a 'Christian' nation like you would like us to be. We are a 'Secular' nation, which means a nation of 'ALL' religions. Not just Christians. If you would like the 10 commandments to be posted in schools, then we can also post Muslim and Jewish and Atheist writings in schools. This is the whole reason for the Separation. There is no problem with celebrating Christmas, as long as there is also no problem with celebrating all the other holidays which other religions support. As long as Mark does not have a problem with that, then Christmas celebration is ok as well. But, something tells me that he will. Most of these type of people don't want religion taught in schools, but want THEIR religion taught in schools. Let's keep it simple and keep the religion to oneself!

Please bring courage and purpose to each serviceman and servicewoman, and hope and peace to each one's family. Please bring each servicemember home safely. Thank you, dear Lord. This is my prayer in Jesus' name. Amen.

Dear merciful and loving, triune God:

Keep safe thy soldiers and ministers of faith, specifically, in the forgiveness of sin, in the sacrifice of your Son.May you smile upon their families while away, and give them peace of mind, body, and soul, for their efforts to erradicate slavery from the earth. Amen

Christmas is a national holiday, I celebrate it by spending quality time with my family, and I say Merry Christmas. But I, like many Americans, do not believe in the supernatural, and the facts are that December 25 is likely not the actual birthdate of Jesus and most Christmas traditions were co-opted from northern European pagans.

That said, you really need to stop with the Christian nation nonsense. You and I can go on ad-nauseum quoting founding fathers and their beliefs and/or lack thereof. The fact remains that one of the most brilliant features of the Constitution is the separation of church and state proscribed by the very first sentence of the First Amendment. History repeatedly shows that oppression and tyranny result when government meddles with religion, and vice-versa. You are comfortable with the co-mingling of the two, in violation of the Constitution, because it is your brand of religion that currently enjoys majority status. But, I strongly suspect that the day the president asks us to bow to Mecca and pray to Allah, you will quickly gain a respect for the value of the first part of First Amendment. In the meantime, take the blinders off and recognize that all beliefs are protected by the Constitution, not just yours.

[Amen, Mark. This is what I noticed on the net!]

Islam will "purify" Jews and Christians !

Islam, part of the Living River of History, can affect even the 2012 US election!

The "headwaters" of this River was Adam, according to Judaism, Christianity, Islam etc .

In the OT (Deut. 28), "tributaries" wanting to join the River will be blessed while "distributaries" who want to flow away from it will be cursed. Those wishing to totally separate from the fresh Living River will end up as polluted, dying "oxbow lakes."

In the OT we see Israelites repeatedly flowing away from God, then repenting and returning to Him; we also see heathen "oxbow lakes" creating their own "gods" and being allowed by God to plunder and kill the erring Israelites.

Then, at the right time, the Living River took on new life with the arrival of the Promised One who offers "living water."

In the 7th century Islam, drawing from both OT and NT, chose to be a distributary away from this River. Many scholars have viewed it as the final Antichrist: note "scourge" (Isa. 28), "Assyrian" (Mic. 5), "Euphrates" (Rev. 9) etc.

God will allow this "scourge" to temporarily persecute and even kill apostate Jews (JINOs) and Christians (CINOs). Jews, especially in "entertainment," seem more expert in apostasy than Christians since Jews have been at it 2000 years longer than Christians have - but Christians apparently want to catch up to the Jews!

It's apparent that others will join Islam in its end-time inquisition; its great oil wealth can captivate many leaders and already we are seeing apostate American leaders being bribed into turning against true American patriots.

Those who ignore (or try to dilute or destroy) the God-ordained Living River of History will be swept down it to an ocean made by their own never-ending tears of agony and despair!

PS - American JINOs & CINOs can overcome the "scourge" discussed above. The secret is found by Googling "II Chronicles 7:14" & "John 3:16" !
