The Walking Dead Wisconsin Witch Hunt

Democrats in Wisconsin don’t know when to quit, and they don’t respect the law.

The Wisconsin State Assembly Judiciary Committee voted on Thursday along party lines to approve a Republican bill that would restrict “John Doe” investigations like the two witch hunts that have plagued Gov. Scott Walker and his aides. Debate over the bill had been held up pending a state Supreme Court decision involving a John Doe investigation into Walker’s recall election. The court slammed shut that case in July, writing, “To be clear, this conclusion ends the John Doe investigation because the special prosecutor’s legal theory is unsupported in either reason or law.”

That smack down should be the end of the story, right?

Nope. Democrats in Wisconsin don’t know when to quit, and they don’t respect the law. Special Prosecutor Francis Schmitz has filed a motion for reconsideration and a stay of decisions while he mulls an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. He wants to hold onto the evidence that was illegally seized in Gestapo-style raids of the homes of Walker’s staffers, and he wants to be allowed to continue his investigation into possible collusion between Walker’s recall campaign effort and several conservative groups.

The chances of Schmitz getting the High Court to hear his case are slim to none. This is a matter of state law, and the Supremes are unlikely to dirty their hands with the issue if the state courts have summarily sealed the deal. And Schmitz’s case never produced any substantiated evidence of any wrongdoing by Walker or any of his aides. Schmitz was nothing more than a hatchet man who was assigned by Wisconsin’s liberal mafia to exact revenge on Walker for foiling their plans to oust him from office.

That Walker has managed to frustrate Democrats’ legal and illegal attempts to kneecap him at every turn, and is still managing to keep his job and engage in a presidential campaign, has made many a progressive’s blood boil in the Badger State. Crazed by their anger, they used the power of the state to batter down peoples’ doors, take their personal property, then threaten them into silence.

Thankfully, the falsely accused didn’t take this lying down. While the Republicans in the state legislature acted to bring an end to John Doe investigations — a euphemism for a sealed investigation in which prosecutors can withhold evidence in a case at their own discretion — the very conservative groups under attack fought back in the courts.

The results were devastating for leftists. First district courts, then the state Supreme Court summarily rejected Schmitz’s argument and the work of Milwaukee DA John Chisholm, another foot soldier for the progressive cause. The state’s high court wrote, “The special prosecutor has disregarded the vital principle that in our nation and our state political speech is a fundamental right and is afforded the highest level of protection.”

Yet Schmitz is back for more. His mindset is similar to all progressives in Wisconsin, and across the country for that matter. They only respect the law if it works in their favor. When it doesn’t, they hammer at it like savages, kicking at anything that stands in their way. The Democrats’ mascot isn’t a jackass for nothing.
