Terror’s Progressive Accomplices

At least one of the jihadi attackers in France registered as a Syrian refugee.

Take a good, long, hard look, fellow Americans, at the so-called City of Light — reduced to a blood-stained darkness. Paris was put under its first curfew since 1944, when another group of savages known as the Nazis were inflicting their particular brand of barbarianism on the world. This time, the Islamic State has taken credit for attacks in seven locations, killing at least 129 people and wounding another 180. And make no mistake: While Islamic thugs perpetrated this atrocity, their progressive enablers must be held to account as well. Spare us the criticism of “exploiting” a tragedy for political gain. We will not abide cultural suicide to preserve political correctness.

Timing, as they say, is everything. And the most feckless president in the history of the United States, along with his equally bankrupt administration, did not disappoint. Only hours before the carnage took place, Obama did an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos and gave us an echo of his 2012 campaign “terror is on the run” nonsense. “I don’t think they’re gaining strength,” Obama declared of the Islamic State. “What is true is that from the start, our goal has been first to contain and we have contained them. They have not gained ground in Iraq, and in Syria they’ll come in, they’ll leave, but you don’t see this systemic march by ISIL across the terrain.”

Instead, we saw a systemic march through the streets of Paris, courtesy of eight Islamic State terrorists firing AK-47s and detonating bomb-laden suicide belts. Parisians were terrified, but being the “enlightened” people they are — as opposed to the knuckle-dragging Americans they disdain — they had no way of defending themselves. There is no right to bear arms in France. If one wishes to own a gun, one must obtain a license requiring a psychological evaluation, and repeated renewals. One might imagine the Charlie Hebdo slaughter last January would have elicited cries for a re-evaluation of that policy. But only if one cannot fathom the denialism at the heart of progressive ideology.

That denialism was on full display Friday when Americans learned the first group of what will ultimately amount to 10,000 Syrian and Afghan “refugees” arrived in New Orleans, prior to their dispersal into other areas of Louisiana — and another 180 American communities. New Orleans FBI chief and anti-terrorism expert Jim Bernazzani voiced the obvious: “If I was in charge of ISIL, logistically I’d take advantage of this situation and put my people in, into the United States.” He then assured us the FBI and the joint Terrorism Task Force will thoroughly vet these individuals.

Really? Then why did FBI Assistant Director Michael Steinbach and DHS Director Matthew Emrich both admit there is no system to reliably screen these individuals? Moreover, what can the nation expect in terms of vetting from an administration so mired in political correctness, the FBI ignored multiple Russian warnings regarding the radicalization of Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev?

At least one of the jihadi attackers in France registered as a Syrian refugee. Think that won’t happen here? Obama just opened the jihadi pipeline into the U.S.

Obama saved his most contemptible flight from reality for his speech to the nation as the attacks were unfolding. It was then he told America this cascade of orchestrated killing was “an attack not just on Paris, it’s an attack not just on the people of France, but this is an attack on all of humanity and the universal values we share.”

Universal values? Do we all behead children, enslave and rape women, throw acid in the faces of schoolgirls, hoist beheaded people up on crosses, murder them in cages set afire, or engage in genocidal ethnic cleansing of unbelievers? Yet it is not just our morally bereft president who perpetrates the despicable notion that “all cultures are equally viable.” Equally feckless leaders such as German Chancellor Angela Merkel, UK Prime Minster David Cameron and, yes, French President François Hollande have rolled out the multicultural welcome mat to millions of Middle Eastern Muslims, assuring their respective peoples that fears of terrorist infiltration are overblown at best, or xenophobic at worst. After the attack Hollande vowed that France “will be merciless toward the barbarians of Islamic State group” and promised his government would “act by all means anywhere, inside or outside the country.”

Too late, François. As columnist Mark Steyn so rightly notes, “The barbarians are inside, and there are no gates.” Gates, of course, is a euphemism for borders, and like his European counterparts, Obama is equally repulsed by the apparently anachronistic notion of secure borders and national sovereignty.

Those who refuse to go along with this “progressive” vision? Bigots and nativists. Those who believe in a combination of disincentives and law-enforcement to remove the illegal aliens from our midst? Heartless and inhumane.

It will not stand. And it will not stand because, in the midst of celebrating their victory in Paris, the Islamic State has promised that American streets will also run red with blood, a promise that looks increasingly likely, considering the FBI has nearly 1,000 active investigations involving the terror group.

As Steyn says [ellipses in original], “[T]here’s nowhere to get away from it; the barbarians who yell ‘Allahu Akbar!’ are there waiting for you …when you go to a soccer match, you go to a concert, you go for a drink on a Friday night. They’re there on the train… at the magazine office… in the Kosher supermarket… at the museum in Brussels… outside the barracks in Woolwich…”

America has all of that, along with shopping malls, temples, churches, stadiums and a host of other “soft targets.” And it is critical to remember that what took place in Paris occurred even as France has been on “high alert” since the Charlie Hebdo massacre.

High alert? When one’s country and continent are being overrun by “migrants” defended by their multicultural champions, there is no such thing. There is only after-the-fact mop-up, handwringing and the flaccid denunciations of the appeasers, the apologists and the surrenderists whose utterly bankrupt ideology has held sway for far too long. In a better, more honorable world, Obama and his “shared values” accomplices in the EU would be drummed out of office, and the presidential campaign of Hillary “what difference does it make” Clinton would be dead in the water.

Unfortunately, we are a nation as adrift as France, where “they all lie” has become one of the principal rationales for a congenital liar’s continuing viability as the Democrat standard-bearer.

Fortunately, we are a long way from the 2016 election. And while one hopes some domestic and bloody “events on the ground” aren’t necessary to further illuminate the reality that progressive ideology is completely anathema to national security, every day the Islamic State and other Islamofascist groups remain viable is another day they get to promote their pathology.

It’s time Americans stopped abiding the progressive pathology that enables all of it.
