What goes around comes around. We warned as much when House Democrats ousted Georgia Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene from her committee assignments in 2021. “Democrats may come to regret the standard they’ve now set,” we said at the time. Ask Adam Schiff, Eric Swalwell, and Ilhan Omar if they now regret their votes against Greene.

Obviously, they won’t admit regret. In fact, they’re squealing about “vengeance” (Swalwell) and “Islamophobia” (Omar) after House Speaker Kevin McCarthy confirmed his intent to remove the three from their powerful committee assignments in the 118th Congress. Yet Democrats were hypocrites when they removed Greene for saying dumb stuff. They’re even worse hypocrites now for complaining about being removed — based on their own new standard — for doing dumb stuff.

Schiff and Swalwell will no longer serve on the powerful House Intelligence Committee, a decision McCarthy alone can make due to its “select” status. By contrast, removing Omar from the House Foreign Affairs Committee will require a House vote. “Swalwell can’t get a security clearance in the private sector. I’m not going to give him a government security clearance,” McCarthy explained. “Schiff has lied too many times to the American public. He should not be on Intel.” As for Omar, her rank anti-Semitism and loud criticism of Israel leave her unsuited for the task, though McCarthy didn’t name her this week.

McCarthy was too kind. Let’s briefly review the sordid history of these three members.

Adam Schiff led what we routinely called the “Schiff Show” of the first impeachment of Donald Trump. He lied, fabricated “evidence,” colluded with a “whistleblower,” and was a general embarrassment during that whole fiasco. “He put America — for four years — through an impeachment that he knew was a lie,” McCarthy said Thursday.

Since then, Schiff has been exposed for personally conspiring with Twitter to censor journalist Paul Sperry because Sperry committed the “sin” of reporting true things about Schiff. Now, the thing that probably irks Schiff the most is that, without his powerful committee seat, he’ll have a diminished platform from which to seek Dianne Feinstein’s Senate seat in 2024.

When Eric Swalwell wasn’t running a laughable campaign for president or letting one rip on live TV, he was having an illicit affair with a Chinese spy. By definition, that compromised him to the point of never being allowed in the same room (or garage) as anything classified. (Here’s looking at you, Joe Biden.) “If you got the briefing I got from the FBI,” McCarthy said, “you wouldn’t have Swalwell on any committee.”

Ilhan Omar is a member of the self-identified “Squad” of young, minority, female Democrats whose primary goal in life seems to be irritating everyone but the true believers in their radical leftist cause. Perhaps foremost among them, Omar is a hater. She’s also a tax cheat, liar, and home-wrecker. Other than that, she’s a swell lady.

Nancy Pelosi and her fellow Democrats circled the wagons for Omar back in 2019 and have routinely looked the other way for each of her scandals. Now that someone actually wants to hold her to account, Omar claims she’s the victim. Of McCarthy’s intended move, Omar huffed, “I do not actually think that he has a reason outside of me being Muslim.” Give us a break.

On a final note, this isn’t the first time Democrats have not enjoyed living with the rules and standards they created. McCarthy is simply taking a page from Mitch McConnell’s book. Back in 2013, Harry Reid invoked the so-called “nuclear option” to ram through a few of Barack Obama’s nominations on a bare majority without a cloture vote. It wasn’t long before McConnell decided that same new rule should apply to Supreme Court nominations, and boy did Democrats caterwaul when that happened.

Double standards are always more fun when you aren’t subject to them.
