At this point, it’s all about running out the clock.

Way back in 2018, the FBI opened what should’ve been an open-and-shut investigation into Hunter Biden’s taxes. And today, five years later, we still don’t have an indictment or an exoneration. How long, pray tell, does it take the deep-staters in our Department of “Justice” to conduct an investigation of one man’s taxes, especially when for four years they’ve had in their possession a treasure trove of Russian disinformation incriminating laptop communications from the Little Guy and his “business partners”?

Apparently, not as long as it takes our DOJ to arrest, prosecute, sentence, imprison, and release from prison hundreds of peaceful and non-peaceful January 6 protesters who’ve made their way fully through our criminal justice system in less than half the time it’s taken the feds to slow-walk their investigation into the first son’s taxes.

Clearly, when the feds want to, they can move with a sense of urgency. Or, when the subject belongs to the protected class, they can move at a pace that makes a sloth seem speedy. But, no, there aren’t two separate and unequal tiers of justice here.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer is aware of all this, and he’s been doggedly determined — if not terribly successful — in his pursuit of the Biden Crime Family.

As we’ve been reporting, things have gotten testy lately between Comer and the man who heads our corrupt FBI, Christopher “I’m Late for Vacay” Wray. At issue is Wray’s refusal to hand over an internal law enforcement document that an FBI whistleblower says will expose a “criminal scheme” linking Joe Biden and an unnamed foreign national.

Remember: This isn’t about Hunter’s influence peddling. It’s about the Big Guy. It’s about the man who was at the time Barack Obama’s vice president.

So far, the bureau has protected this lone unclassified document as if it contained the nuclear codes. Its excuse? That it contains “unsubstantiated intelligence.”

Ahhh. It’s “unsubstantiated intelligence” that the bureau is steadfastly protecting from prying eyes. We wonder: Is it “unsubstantiated intelligence” akin to that within the thoroughly debunked “Steele dossier”? Is it “unsubstantiated intelligence” the likes of which might be used by corrupt Bureau Boys like James Comey and Andrew McCabe and Peter Strzok to secure a succession of FISA warrants for spying on an American president and his administration?

Heavens to Betsy, we wouldn’t want “unsubstantiated intelligence” falling into the hands of those smelly Walmart shoppers on the GOP House Oversight Committee.

On Tuesday, though — facing a contempt-of-Congress charge for continuing to withhold a document that House members have every legal right to see within their constitutionally prescribed oversight role — Wray delivered a letter to Chairman Comer. It reads in part:

As we stated in our May 10, 2023, correspondence, the FBI is committed to working to provide the Committee information necessary for your legitimate oversight interests, while also protecting [blah blah blah blah] … we explained the significant limits [blah blah blah] … critical to the physical safety of our sources [blah blah blah] … longstanding Department of Justice confidentiality interests [blah blah blah].

Suffice it to say, the nearly three-page letter was little more than a stalling tactic. But yesterday, Wray went further. As The Washington Times reports:

After a phone call Wednesday with the FBI director, Mr. Comer said Mr. Wray has not promised to hand over the unclassified documents which were subpoenaed last month by his committee, and Mr. Comer is still preparing contempt charges if Mr. Wray refuses to turn over the documents.

“While Director Wray — after a month of refusing to even acknowledge that the form existed — has offered to allow us to see the documents in person at FBI headquarters, we have been clear that anything short of producing these documents to the House Oversight Committee is not in compliance with the subpoena,” Mr. Comer, Kentucky Republican, said in a statement. “If the FBI fails to hand over the FD-1023 form as required by the subpoena, the House Oversight Committee will begin contempt of Congress proceedings.”

Will Wray cough up the document, or will he force Chairman Comer to forever brand him with the big scarlet letter “C” like the one now forever festooned with Barack Obama’s wingman, former Attorney General Eric Holder?

We’ll soon find out. As National Review’s Andrew McCarthy neatly sums things up: “The era of FBI prestige is over. The FBI killed it, and director Chris Wray seems to be the last one to know. As a result, he’s about to be held in contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena that he has no lawful basis to defy.”

UPDATE: Perseverance pays. As Just the News’s John Solomon reports, “Wray relented and has agreed to bring [the aforementioned document] to Capitol Hill for lawmakers to inspect on Monday, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer announced Friday.”
