The Right Opinion
Obama's Base Is Well-Named
With every word he utters, with every action he takes, we hear that Obama is playing to his base. Whether he's extending unemployment benefits, increasing the number of people receiving food stamps; cutting the interest rate for student loans; giving a pass to illegal aliens; promoting public and private sector unions; funding Planned Parenthood; supporting same-sex marriages; and refusing to prosecute the Black Panthers, it's all done for the sole purpose of energizing the nitwits who elected him in 2008.
It's unintended irony when people refer to Obama's base because among the word's multiple definitions are "morally reprehensible; lacking dignity; mean-spirited; selfish; and cowardly." That pretty much sums up those who are willing to turn a blind eye to Obama's war on capitalism and his promotion of class, race and gender warfare, so long as his groupies receive their puny little bribes.
Just a few of the inconvenient truths these weasels are willing to overlook are: one, that Obama's agenda will inevitably slaughter the golden goose; two, that his profligacy is sending America spiraling into bankruptcy; and, three, that his gutting of the military ultimately diminishes our nation's influence in world affairs, where it has traditionally served as a bulwark against the evils of communism, Nazism and Islamic terrorism. Such vital matters aren't even a blip on their collective radar.
Although I have often likened left-wingers as termites and rodents, Obama's supporters more closely resemble parasites mindlessly devouring their host.
Because those who join Alcoholics Anonymous and successfully attain sobriety must first agree to turn their lives over to a Higher Power, I have long wondered if it would work as well with those poor souls who have gotten intoxicated on the fermented Kool-Aid of liberalism. The problem, of course, is that they would first have to wise up and quit picturing Barack Hussein Obama hovering over us mere mortals.
Speaking of hovering, because Obama has long made a practice of surrounding himself with dunces like Eric Holder, Valerie Jarrett and Katherine Sebilius, in order to appear intelligent, and dwarves like Timothy Geithner, Barbara Boxer and Henry Waxman, in order to appear taller, he's going to have his work cut out for him when it's time to debate Romney. For one thing, he's not as bright as his opponent and he's certainly not as good-looking, and, without his Teleprompter, he's about as spell-binding as Porky Pig. As if all that isn't bad enough, he's shorter than Romney. That's why I'm betting he will be wearing elevator shoes for the event and perhaps an earpiece into which David Axelrod can feed him his lines.
Although I am still confident that Mitt Romney will win the election, I find it annoying that even after three years of this administration's lies and incompetence, Obama remains personally popular with so many people. I mean, even if you support his policies, as apparently many people do, why is it that more people aren't turned off by his obvious arrogance, narcissism and hypocrisy? I mean, if you had neighbors, in-laws or people in your workplace, who shared those qualities, I'm sure most normal people would go out of their way to avoid them.
In spite of all that, according to the polls, Obama is running neck-to-neck with a genuinely decent guy like Romney. I'm afraid that says less about Obama than it does about the typical American voter.
On top of everything else, Obama wants to condemn Romney for being wealthy, although he is not as wealthy as such Obama supporters as Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, David Letterman, Oprah Winfrey, Barbra Streisand or George Soros.
Obama condemns Romney for outsourcing American jobs, even though the liberal Washington Post points out that's an outright lie, while Obama has personally overseen the out-sourcing of billions of American tax dollars to such places as China, Finland and Brazil.
Whether it's because of his traumatic upbringing or his later political influences, which, by his own admission, included racists, radicals and communists, I sincerely believe that Obama has several screws loose.
So when I say "Screw him!" it's hardly my intention to insult the alleged leader of the free world. I'm only suggesting that the White House handyman should get busy tightening up those loose nuts before Obama comes completely unglued.

Burt, I am not hanging by my thumbs waiting for the Republican big shots (you still can't call them leaders) to say what you just said in your column. If the big shots said them it would be a sure shot for Romney, instead of a warmed over PC McCain campaign. The Republican advisers such as Karl Rove need to be given their walking papers. One talk show host calls Rove the Architect, yes the architect of the Republican's defeat. Just once I would like for a Republican to ask Barry, "how long have you been a communist". It would give the news readers at CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN, etc coronaries.

Howard: I understand your desire, but if Romney called Obama a communist, it would turn off independents. Besides, most voters don't know what a communist is and, since their picture of one is Joe Stalin, they wouldn't believe it about Obama.
We can save our pejoratives for conversations with our friends. A guy running for president just cheapens himself by calling his opponent names.
Romney is doing just fine, and he will do even better once the convention gets underway, and even better once we get to the debates.

Burt, how are you so sure it would turn off independents? I suspect most people, at least the thinking ones, would say "a politician that tells the truth". Besides telling the truth is not calling names.
As for my picture of a communist, besides Stalin, would be FDR, Barney Fag (their I go telling the truth), Dodd, Pelosi, Kommandant Klinton (both of them), Sharpton, Jessie Jackson, Boxer, Waxman, etc. That would be a great commercial, (at least I think so) a picture of the entire bunch with the caption, "Communists". I guess you can tell I am not PC.
Son of Liberty in Colorado

Howard - the reason why it would turn off a lot of independents is that probably a third of them aren't old enough to remember the Cold War and the Cuban Missile Crisis, or were too young to know what actually was going on. Most aren't interested enough to educate themselves on the evils of Communism or its totalitarian tyranny. Sadly, it is true that the American Socialist Progressives (ASP's) have succeeded in dumbing down American youth through the infiltration of our school system. ASP is a new term I just coined and it describes them accurately - attractive to the ignorant, but deadly poisonous.
For those who are interested in learning about the evils of Communism I would suggest reading 'THE BLACK BOOK OF COMMUNISM - A history of terror, crimes and repression.' It was published in the late 1990's but all the information comes from the Soviet Secret Archives after they were opened up. A very educational read.
And I think as long as Romney stays ahead of the game in not letting the Obamanation get to him he'll win at the polls in November.

Howard: You are not PC, but you are also not running for president. All Romney has to do is point out what Obama has done, what he is likely to do if re-elected, and then say what his own plans are. Calling your opponent names doesn't work in high school class elections and they sure don't work in national elections.

Burt: In reading your column and the following reader comments, I cannot help but think the sad state of American voters is a major problem. If the polls are even half right, American voters are an ignorant, superficial bunch who don't deserve the remaining freedoms they still have. This could only happen to America because of the libtard takeover of the educational (actually the indoctrinational) system and most of the broadcast media.
This means it is only a matter of time before the libtards control both houses of Congress and the White House. Yes, Mittens may barely win the White House this time, but the economy will not recover fast enough. More young mush-headed voters will tip the scales toward the likes of the Obamanation. That will be the end of the Great American Experiment. And the fools will never know what they did.
The only way to stop this future catastrophe is to take the FCC licenses from the lamestream media and delete the Dept. of Education. The former can be done by petitions based on biased reporting. The latter can be done by what may be the last GOP president, if that president has the courage to do so.

Why, oh why can't the GOP PACs point out the facts concerning the open corruption, paybacks, and various quotes from Oblunder? Everything from Solyndra to Fast & Furious, plus the fact that the majority of the stimulus finds went to Obama campaign bundlers, should befin to enlighten even the most illiterate of his supporters. I remember well his grand speech where he claimed that for Bush to spend $5.5 Trillion "all by his lonesome" (false) was "not only irresponsible but unpatriotic". Why doesn't anyone point out that it took Barry Oblunder the muslim exactly 3 years and 2 months to 'spend' more than Bush 'spent' in 8 full years? I remember very clearly Oblunder magnanimously telling his supporters not to look down on Bristol Palin because "my own mother was 16 when I was born". I remember this speech very clearly because I thought, at the time, that my mother was only 17 when my oldest brother was born. Unfortunately, when Obozo released his fake 'birth certificate', it stated that his mother was 18 when he was born. Who's going to ask the question, "Was he lying then, or is he lying now?" It can only be one or the other. A more pertinent question is how was he elected when he's not a "natural born American citizen" per the Supreme court ruling defining that phrase. This man was never and is not legally eligible to run for the ofice of president, even if he was born in Hawaii. His father was a British subject, as Kenya was a British protectorate at the time. In order to be a 'natural born citizen' one must have 2 (TWO) parents who are BOTH American citizens. I also like his comment on tape where he vows that "If I don't turn this country around in my first term, it's going to be a one-term proposition." I agree completely with that last comment, and I also agree with the Supreme Court and their recognition of the founder's definition of 'natural born citizen'. This prerequisite was set to ensure that no one would be able to run for President who had split allegiances, that is, a person that does NOT have the best interests of the United States at heart due to his family background.

It also annoys me that it may make a difference in the election. I suppose it would be too much to expect voters who need to get all warm and fuzzy over their man to simply desist from exercising the franchise until they manage to have a serious thought. No, it won't happen, but I've got to believe that if they did, it would significantly benefit the conservative cause.

Everything you say about Obama is true, Burt, especially the part about loose screws. Looking at the Mayo Clinic definition of Narcissistic Personality Disorder and the symptoms thereof, Obummer has them all. It's very disappointing that in the latest count of electoral votes Obama is at 272, Romney at 171. Tex: Any poll that claims Obama has 272 electoral votes is pure baloney. When an incumbent is above 50% in only a handful of states, he's in no position to win an election. He's had four years to make his case. So when a poll shows Obama leading Romney, say, 47% to 44%, it actually means that Romney is leading Obama 53% to 47%.
