There is a familiar line from Shakespeare’s “Hamlet,” invoked today to call into question the truth of absurd and diversionary denials.
The latest example of such denials comes from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). Attempting to deflect responsibility from her Marxist Squad and other radical Democrats who provoked and supported leftist violence in urban centers nationwide in 2020, while simultaneously calling to defund the police, she now claims Republican governors are responsible: “According to CBS News out of the Top 10 deadliest cities in America, 7 of them are in Republican-run states. … These poor cities are subjected to conservative state leaders that want to shoot them and enslave their women!”
Indeed, “The lady doth protest too much, methinks.”
As I documented thoroughly last week, it was the Democrats who unleashed a record surge in mass violence, which has spilled over into record murder, mass assault, and active shooter cases in 2021 and 2022. And Demos insist this was all a “gun problem,” not a political or cultural problem.
The record violence we’re seeing now is irrevocably linked to the fact that, in 2020, Democrats at the national, state, and local levels willfully provoked and promoted mass lawlessness. They empowered their Marxist Black Lives Matter thugs and their anarchist antifa legions to riotous violence in the name of “social justice” in response to what they errantly claimed was “systemic racism.”
This violence is thus the direct result of empowering these mobs, and it is their effluent that accounts for the surge in the vast majority of active and mass assailants nationwide.
What AOC did not mention: Every city topping the list for violence has a leftist Democrat mayor calling the shots. The last time these cities had Republican mayors is telling: St. Louis, 1949; Baltimore, 1967; Birmingham, 1975; Detroit, 1962; Dayton, 2001; Baton Rouge, 2005; New Orleans, 1873; Kansas City, 1991; and Cleveland, 1989.
Oh, and some of those top ten have the most restrictive gun laws in the nation. And, I think the CBS data was from 2019 – and at that time four of the seven states now under Republican governors were still under Democrat control.
Fact is, there is not a Republican governor in any of these states who has or would support the socialist Democrat Party policies that have created these dangerous urban poverty plantations.
Even CNN admits Americans are fed up with crime, as made clear last week when Nancy Pelosi’s hometown of San Francisco voted overwhelmingly to send that city’s Soros-backed soft-on-crime DA packing. AOC and her leftist cadre are desperately trying to put daylight between themselves and their actions promoting and supporting their criminal constituencies.
