It should come as no surprise that a party that generally hates America is rife with foreign agents and politicians for sale (e.g., “The Big Guy”). The latest of these rooted-out foreign agents is Linda Sun, a 41-year-old Chinese-born American citizen. Sun had been working in New York State politics in various positions for 12 years and was also allegedly a spy for China.

In federal court this week, Sun and her husband, Christopher Hu, faced indictments on various charges. Sun was charged with violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), visa fraud, money laundering, smuggling in illegal aliens, and conspiracy to commit more of the same. Her husband allegedly aided and abetted her schemes in espionage on the financial end. Hu was charged with money laundering conspiracy, bank fraud, and misusing identity (a form of identity fraud).

How exactly did Sun worm her way into the highest echelons of New York State government?

She began her career in 2012 working for then-Governor Andrew Cuomo, and her spying activities began shortly after that. According to The Wall Street Journal:

Prosecutors didn’t offer details on how Sun first connected with the Chinese government. Sun and Chinese officials frequently communicated through the WeChat messaging application, at times bragging about stopping meetings with Taiwanese representatives, according to the indictment.

“I very much value my relationship with the consulate and have done many things to make the relationship between the state and the consulate flourish,” Sun said in a message to a Chinese official. In response, the official said Sun was the “most important hub connecting us” with Cuomo.

As the Covid-19 pandemic spread in 2020, Sun secretly kept Chinese officials informed on New York state’s health response, according to prosecutors. At one point, she surreptitiously added a Chinese official to a private conference call for New York government officials about the pandemic, prosecutors said.

In the past 12 years, she has held various positions within the governor’s office. As a top aide, her clandestine activities continued under Governor Hochul. She covertly facilitated the illegal entry of various Chinese government officials by sending them letters of invitation, all of which were unauthorized. To add insult to injury, she even forged the signature of Governor Hochul on one of these infamous letters. These letters were then used to obtain visas for Chinese Communist Party (CCP) government personnel. This is what is known as “alien smuggling.”

Her husband handled the lavish kickbacks that the CCP threw their way in exchange for her spying. Using his seafood export and financial consulting businesses, he laundered CCP money. They had a mansion on Long Island and a million-dollar condo in Honolulu. They also acquired a Ferrari Roma sports car, tickets to the ballet, and even Nanjing-style salted ducks. Their lifestyle didn’t even remotely match their incomes, which makes you wonder: Where was the IRS on this, and why has it taken 12 years for anyone to detect their activities, particularly the New York governor’s office?

That suspicion has led Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY) to urge a probe into Hochul and her troublingly lackadaisical attitude toward the CCP.

“Failed Far Left Democrat Kathy Hochul allowed Communist Chinese spy Linda Sun unfettered access to the highest levels of New York State government,” Stefanik said in a statement. “From allowing Chinese police stations, to maintaining a sister city partnership between NYC and Beijing, this is another example of New York Democrats facilitating the influence campaign of Communist China. I am calling for a complete investigation into Kathy Hochul and her administration so that hardworking New York taxpayers receive the transparency we deserve.”

As the New York Post questioned, “Shouldn’t Hochul be screaming at the top of her lungs — and demanding strong federal action against Beijing? Heck, the Harris-Biden administration shouldn’t even need prodding: China placed an agent in the Executive Chamber of New York state government. Doesn’t that merit the expulsion of key Chinese officials, at the least?”

Frankly, a probe into Hochul and a strong message of displeasure to the CCP should both occur.

However prudent both actions may be, the CCP has embarrassed the Democrats again. First, it was Senator Feinstein (D-CA) and Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA) who were compromised by the CCP. And now, Cuomo and Hochul have joined them. This embarrassment for Democrats is growing, and the last thing Vice President Kamala Harris, Tim Not-So-Great Walz, and President ChiCom Joe Biden want to do is draw further attention to Democrat failure vis-à-vis China.
