Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky are mortal enemies, but they do have at least one thing in common: They both want Kamala Harris to be the next American president.

Putin, of course, knows that he’ll have a far easier time rebuilding the Soviet empire under a weak and feckless American president like Harris than a strong and resolute one like Donald Trump. True, Putin’s foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, has since tried to walk back his boss’s endorsement of Harris, but we know the truth: He took back Soviet land under George W. Bush, he took back Soviet land under Barack Obama, and he took back Soviet land under provocative Joe Biden. But he’d never have dared to invade Ukraine or any other former Soviet satellite on Trump’s watch.

Indeed, Putin’s refusal to test Trump was the ultimate compliment that can be paid by a bully. Maybe it was that alpha handshake Trump put on him at the G20 summit. Or maybe that time Trump quietly greased all those Russian mercs in Syria.

Zelensky, meanwhile, knows that Harris will keep the spigot open, continuing to send hundreds of billions of American dollars to fund the Biden-Harris administration’s ongoing proxy war with Russia.

Did you know, for example, that your taxpayer dollars are hard at work in Ukraine, paying not just for bullets, beans, and Band-Aids but also the salaries of 150,000 Ukrainian civil servants and more than half a million teachers, professors, and school workers, not to mention government expenses ranging from healthcare to housing subsidies? Now you do. And where do you think the Ukrainians are going to get the money to rebuild that utterly wrecked country of theirs — by selling football squares and holding bake sales?

All this brings us back to Zelensky, who, under the tightest security and after having been flown in on a taxpayer-funded U.S. Air Force C-17, was in the crucial swing state of Pennsylvania on Sunday, ostensibly to thank American workers for producing 155 mm artillery shells, more than three million of which have already been sent from the U.S. to Ukraine.

But this wasn’t just a simple “thank you” from Zelensky. No, this foreign leader was also here on a mission: to weigh in on the upcoming American election, and to do so on behalf of his benefactors in the Biden-Harris administration. He thus trashed Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance as “too radical,” no doubt referring to Vance’s recent outline of a plan to end the bloody and ruinous border war between Ukraine and Russia. As the New York Post reports, “Earlier this month, Vance outlined a blueprint to end the war during a radio interview — a plan that entailed the establishment of a special demilitarized zone between the two warring nations.”

But Zelensky saved his most damning criticism for the Republican presidential candidate, of whom he said:

Trump makes political statements in his election campaign. He says he wants the war to stop. Well, we do, too. … My feeling is that Trump doesn’t really know how to stop the war, even if he might think he knows how. With this war, oftentimes, the deeper you look at it, the less you understand. I’ve seen many leaders who were convinced they knew how to end it tomorrow, and as they waded deeper into it, they realized it’s not that simple.

The unspoken message from Zelensky, then, is this: Vote for Kamala Harris.

And from the Lack of Self-Awareness Files, Zelensky also said this: “I think Ukraine has demonstrated the wisdom of not becoming captured by American domestic politics. We have always tried to avoid influencing the choices of the American people — that would simply be wrong.”

Wrong is right. From a purely political perspective, Zelensky’s naked electioneering is understandable. After all, the Biden-Harris administration has given his country more than $175 billion in American taxpayer dollars. In exchange for all that money, of course his sugar daddies would want a political endorsement.

Such an arrangement is what Democrats used to call a quid pro quo. But that was back in the day when they were impeaching Donald Trump for making that “perfect phone call” to Zelensky and asking him to look into Hunter Biden’s now thoroughly documented influence peddling in Ukraine. You know, back before those same Democrats were reminded of Joe Biden’s own “perfect phone call” with Ukraine — the one he bragged about right there on video at a Council on Foreign Relations event in 2018; the one in which he threatened to withhold $1 billion in U.S. funds from Ukraine unless officials fired Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin, who’d been looking into Hunter’s money-for-nothing gig with notoriously corrupt Ukrainian energy firm Burisma.

National Review’s Dan McLaughlin is no fan of Donald Trump, but he knows a double standard when he sees one. Speaking about the Biden-Harris cabal’s use of American military assets to solicit the pseudo-endorsement of a foreign leader, McLaughlin quipped, “I am old enough to remember when using taxpayer resources to obtain purely partisan domestic political benefits from Zelenskyy was considered an impeachable offense.”

I couldn’t agree more. At the very least, it’s election interference. Where’s Attorney General Merrick Garland? And where’s the FBI with its repeated warnings about Russia, Russia, Russia?
