Planned Parenthood defunding blocked: 2025 is already known as the year of activist judges, but District Judge Indira Talwani just issued the most outrageous ruling to date. Yesterday, Talwani granted Planned Parenthood’s requested halt to the provision in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, now signed into law, that freezes Medicaid funding to the abortion provider. Not only does Talwani’s ruling mean that the American taxpayer must fund abortions, even against religious objection, but it also asserts that her court is the supreme authority in the U.S. over both Congress and the executive branch. Talwani is a 2013 appointee of Barack Obama. If this ruling stands (which seems unlikely), it would effectively remove the power of the purse from the hands of the legislative branch and centralize power within the judiciary.
Netanyahu nominates Trump for Nobel Peace Prize: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was at the White House Monday night when he joined the chorus calling for Donald Trump to win the Nobel Peace Prize. Netanyahu presented Trump with a copy of the letter he had written to the Prize committee nominating him. Trump’s involvement in securing a ceasefire in the 12-day Israel/Iran war had already earned him a nomination from Georgia Rep. Buddy Carter; still, a foreign head of state’s nomination surely means more. Previously, Trump has been discussed for the Nobel Peace Prize for his work on the Abraham Accords, which normalized relations between several Middle Eastern nations and Israel. Trump also touted his involvement in de-escalating the India-Pakistan and Rwanda-Congo conflicts this year. If Barack Obama can win the Nobel Prize for no apparent reason, then Trump can certainly win it for actually working toward peace.
Assailant attempts to ambush Border Patrol: Yesterday morning, as agents were entering a Border Patrol annex in McAllen, Texas, an individual in tactical gear opened fire on them. Local police quickly responded, returned fire, and killed the perpetrator. According to DHS, the attack appeared to be “a purposeful ambush/attack against federal agents.” No Border Patrol agents were struck, while one local police officer was hit and is in stable condition. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that the DOJ “has zero tolerance for assaults on federal officers or property and will bring the full weight of the law against those responsible.”
Bass grandstands: It comes as little surprise that Los Angeles Democrat Mayor Karen Bass blasted a recent show of force by Border Patrol agents at MacArthur Park as “outrageous” and “un-American.” The neighborhood has a large Hispanic population and a known heavy MS-13 gang presence. Yet Bass, who showed up at the park for an obvious photo op to voice her opposition, sought to spin the bogus narrative that ICE was targeting innocent people. Calling it “no plan other than fear, chaos, and politics,” Bass told the agents they needed to end their enforcement “NOW!” Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino, who took a phone call from Bass, responded, “I don’t work for Karen Bass.” He added, “Better get used to us now, because this is going to be normal very soon. We will go anywhere, anytime we want in Los Angeles.”
No more Temporary Protected Status for Hondurans and Nicaraguans: In January of 1999, Hurricane Mitch hit Honduras, and the first grant of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) was offered to refugees. Since then, every administration has renewed that TPS status every 18 months for 76,000 migrants, mainly from Honduras but including 4,000 Nicaraguans. Now, the Trump administration has determined that the impacts of Hurricane Mitch have finally been overcome, and the migrants can joyfully return to the home from which they fled. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem says this decision is an essential step in restoring the integrity of the immigration system and ensuring that Temporary Protected Status remains temporary.
Mamdani and racial identitarianism: The New York Times is facing a firestorm of criticism after it apparently rushed to publish a story exposing the fact that New York City’s Democrat mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani had marked two racial identities, “Asian” and “Black/African American,” on his 2009 college application. Mamdani, who is of Indian descent but was born in Uganda, confirmed to the Times that he checked both boxes due to the complexity of his background. This story serves to expose the problem with racial identitarianism. Why would Columbia University or any school need to know an applicant’s race? In a truly meritocratic system, the only thing that should matter is one’s academic record. Interestingly, despite Mamdani’s questionable explanation for checking “Black/African American,” which would have lowered the median SAT score threshold for admissions consideration, his application was denied.
California rejects integrity in sports — again: Facing threats from the Trump administration’s Department of Education to pull federal funding due to being in violation of Title IX guidelines, California’s Education Department elected to continue pursuing its radical leftist and inherently unfair policy of allowing biological males to compete in girls’ sports. California State Republican Rep. Kevin Riley observed: “Unbelievable. California is refusing to change its policy of forcing girls to compete against biological males. The Education Department says it ‘disagrees’ with the federal civil rights laws.” He added, “This reckless and illegal decision puts our state’s federal funding at risk.” It also puts female athletes in the Golden State at risk of losing out on competition opportunities as well as physical injuries. California’s Ed Department is determined to continue to peddle the lie that boys can become girls — at the cost of female integrity.
Pediatrician says flood victims got what they voted for: Pediatrician Christina B. Propst said the quiet part out loud on Facebook over the weekend when she wished that the non-MAGA voters and visitors affected by the Texas floods would be safe and dry. She added that since the MAGA voters deny climate change, “May they get what they voted for.” Her former employer, Blue Fish Pediatrics, quickly disavowed her post, initially suspending her and then clarifying that she was no longer employed. Many of the victims in the horrific Texas flood were children attending summer camp; apparently, Dr. Propst thought they deserved it.
