The Patriot Post® · Gay 'Marriage' Support Is Sinking

Long gone are the days of “they can do whatever they want as long as it’s in the privacy of their own bedrooms.” But a new Gallup poll has confirmed what most of us have sensed: The rise of reason and shifting sentiments regarding the LGBTQ+ gender cult agenda.

Those of us who understand history and spiritual warfare saw the slippery slope looming in that language. It has now become a full-fledged religion that you must accept and affirm, or else you are a “bigot,” a “homophobe,” and “anti-trans.”

Following two decades of ever-increasing support for same-sex marriage, approval is coming down from its peak in the early 2020s. According to Gallup, “Between 1996 and 2022, the percentage of U.S. adults in favor of legalizing same-sex marriage increased by 44 points, from 27% to 71%. In 2024, the figure dipped to 69%, and it has shown a marginal decline each year since.”

Gallup first started asking people about the morality of same-sex relations in 2001, and at that time, 40% said it was morally acceptable. That increased to 71% in 2022, then fell to 64% in 2023 and has since plateaued. Gallup began asking about gender changes in 2021 and found that 46% considered it morally acceptable and 51% considered it morally wrong. Today those numbers are at 38% and 57%, respectively.

Gallup notes that what is driving the downward trends is decreasing support for LGBTQ+ nonsense amongst Republicans. In 2021, 55% of Republicans were in favor of same-sex marriage, but today that has dropped to 37%. Independents are still at 67%, and Democrats — who, unsurprisingly, haven’t wavered in their support — are at 87%. The number of Republicans who think gay/lesbian relations are morally acceptable has also dropped dramatically, falling 21 points from 2022 to 35%.

Of course, Gallup portrays this as a negative thing for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and blames Republican pushback on DEI programs for the decline in support of LGBTQ+ acceptance. While that may be partially true, it’s not the whole story. Most of us on the Right view DEI as racial discrimination against whites rather than having anything to do with gay rights. Furthermore, at the height of the trans craze in 2021 and 2022, people began to wake up and push back against the lies that the woke Left was trying to force upon them.

Once leftists started claiming that biological reality and immutable characteristic can be changed simply because of how one feels, common sense started to kick in for the normies. The increasing number of men in women’s bathrooms, men in women’s prisons, men in women’s locker rooms, and men in women’s sports also shone the light of reality on the issue. (Notice it only ever went one direction.)

As PJ Media’s Scott Pinsker put it, “Instead of ‘protecting children,’ the trans movement did the opposite, displaying a callous indifference to the safety, traditions, and integrity of all other groups and institutions.”

The other disturbing and unnatural contagion was the number of unmarried women who were transing their sons. Several years ago, psychologist Jordan Peterson pointed out the anomaly of such a thing happening. The trans trend literally woke people up from their years-long slumber.

Another reason for the decline in support for the LGBTQ+ agenda is the disturbing cases across the Western world of gay couples adopting babies. This is unnatural and wrong to begin with, but these babies are also statistically more likely to be sexually abused. Two gay men in Georgia were sentenced to 100 years in prison for raping their adopted boys and allowing other men to rape them. In Chicago, a gay man and his “husband” were arrested by the FBI for planning to rape the baby they were getting from a surrogate.

There was also that heartbreaking video that recently went viral of two gay men out of Nashville tauntingly telling a baby that he doesn’t have a “momma,” at which point the child starts crying. There’s a reason why two people who can’t reproduce should be barred not only from getting married but from adopting children. Studies have shown the harmful effects that a child suffers when he or she grows up without a father in the home, and how much better children do when they are raised by both a mother and a father. God designed a child to be made and reared by a mother and a father and should therefore not be intentionally deprived of either.

There are several common threads in these things that are waking people up. The rainbow militants are after the children, and it’s always the children who suffer. After all, they can’t consent to taking puberty blockers or being adopted by gay men. The other commonality is the corruption of God’s design for the family. Starting with the sexual revolution, you can see the steps in the deconstruction: You don’t have to be married to have sex. You don’t have to deal with the consequences of sex. No-fault divorce. Same-sex relations are “normal.” Gay/lesbian couples are allowed to adopt babies or “have” a baby via surrogacy. Men can become women and women can become men. All of it is rebellion against God’s design and natural order for His creation because mankind wants to have complete autonomy just as Adam and Eve did in the garden.

As Carl Trueman wrote in his recent book, The Desecration of Man, “This belief that we are autonomous, unencumbered self-creators lies at the heart of the anthropological chaos of our day.” Yet the Left tells us this is something to take “pride” in and to celebrate because modern man has made himself god. Perversion is not something anyone should take pride in. To celebrate your perversion is the same as saying you should celebrate killing your baby. To quote Trueman again, “In desecrating God, man has ironically desecrated himself.”

The more our society keeps perverting God’s design, the more harm and heartbreak will ensue to ourselves and others. This is exactly what Satan wants: the desecration of the image of God in the image bearer.
