Sunny Hostin of the ABC daytime television show “The View” made comments in recent weeks about how neighborhood households flying the American flag made her feel “unsafe.” She was among the leftists supporting former President Joe Biden’s weaponizing the government to go after Donald Trump, while spouting the sentiment, “No one is above the law.”

Except Hostin doesn’t appear to actually believe that.

On July 16, her 24-year-old son, Gabriel, was running in New Rochelle, New York, when he noticed that the gates were open to the train tracks and that those tracks went up a gravel hill. As a former track star, Gabriel couldn’t resist the opportunity to use the gravel incline for hill training.

The New York Post says, “Gabriel Hostin was detained on the side of the tracks in New Rochelle for 'criminal trespassing’ shortly before 8 p.m. on June 16 near 24 Station Plaza after he was spotted ‘on the right-of-way of the active railroad tracks, in violation of the posted no trespassing signs,’ according to the footage and court records.”

After talking for a few minutes, the police decided to charge Gabriel only with a violation because he had no criminal record and was very cooperative with them. They explained that Gabriel would be issued an appearance ticket. At some point, however, Gabriel requested to call his mother, Sunny.

Mrs. Hostin, a former federal prosecutor and celebrity, went on the warpath to try to save her son from any charges. After introducing herself as a federal prosecutor, she told the officer what a good kid her son is and then listed his credentials as a Harvard grad and elementary school teacher. The phone call was captured on body cam footage. Here is a transcript of the exchange:

Officer Gomez: Besides being illegal, it’s actually very dangerous for him to be around the railroad tracks. We get people who get hit all the time.

Sunny Hostin: That’s my son. He’s a Harvard graduate. He’s not a criminal. He has no criminal record, no criminal history.

Gomez: There’s nothing on his record, and he’s been very cooperative with us. But as of right now, we will have to issue him an appearance ticket.

Hostin: Officer, is that really necessary? This is a kid who doesn’t do anything. He’s a Harvard graduate and a Yale researcher. He teaches geometry to fourth graders in the Bronx. Why would you put something on his record like this?

Gomez: It’s not anything criminal. He just has to appear. That’s all it is. It’s not a misdemeanor. He would have to appear, which is an inconvenience, but with all due respect, ma'am, I still have a job to do, and we have to deter people from being on the tracks.

After the phone call, Hostin arrived at the scene and continued trying to talk the officers out of issuing a ticket to her son. She wanted it reduced to a warning, but the officers reiterated that they could not do that at this point. She again emphasized that she is a former federal prosecutor and that her son is a Harvard graduate who teaches fourth-grade geometry.

Sunny and Gabriel will likely contest his violation in court. Mrs. Hostin has publicly stated that her son didn’t see the “No Trespassing” sign because it was on an open gate, making the sign not visible. However, the police aren’t messing around either. When that narrative started circulating, they released a photo demonstrating that there was a visible “No Trespassing” sign on a pole near the open gates.

Of course, Mrs. Hostin was doing what any parent with power and influence might try to do: get their kid out of trouble. However, for years, Sunny has declared that she doesn’t trust the police and that they unfairly target black people. She has also said that guilty people should face punishment regardless of their family connections or influence.

Gabriel’s crime was small, albeit boneheaded. It’s simply common sense not to run by train tracks. The infraction won’t go on his record, but he might have to pay a fine. Mrs. Hostin’s crime was hypocrisy to the nth degree. Her son already had his charge reduced through his own efforts by cooperating with the police, yet his mother invariably expected the violation to be erased because of her status. She doesn’t believe in the very Kool-Aid from which she drinks.

Honestly, this incident sums up the entire Democrat philosophy. The leftist elite want to “save the planet” while flying around in private jets; they want to defund the police while paying for their own private security. Leftist politicians want you to shelter in place during a pandemic while they dine maskless at expensive restaurants. Leftists favor killing babies, and they “solve” the ensuing birthrate problem via mass migration. Many leftists claim they love Jesus but put words in His mouth and punish Christians for living out their faith.

Their hypocrisy is endless and endlessly harmful.
