We recently noted the flap over foolish comments from Republican Iowa Rep. Steve King and the GOP response to rebuke him. We also asked where Democrats were when it came to resisting anti-Semitism and other bigotry in their own party. Well, they have a golden opportunity in Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.

The freshman Democrat recently joined the Left’s hate narrative regarding the MAGA-hat wearing Catholic boys and the noxious Native American drummer. The Leftmedia appallingly botched the facts, which leftists around the nation used to ratchet up their hate speech directed at supporters of Donald Trump. Not wanting to miss out, Omar chose to flat-out lie, saying in a now-deleted tweet, “The boys were protesting a woman’s right to choose & yelled ‘it’s not rape if you enjoy it.’ They were taunting 5 Black men before they surrounded Phillips and led racist chants. [Nick] Sandmann’s family hired a right wing PR firm to write his non-apology.”

Not a single word Omar said is true. The boys were at the March for Life, and that awful phrase about rape was yelled by someone not associated with the Catholic group. The black men — members of the black supremacist Black Hebrew Israelites — were shouting racist and homophobic insults at the boys, not the other way around. Heck, even the left-wing Southern Poverty Law Center lists the Black Hebrew Israelites as a militant hate group. And Phillips — a liar and charlatan himself — confronted the boys, who passively stood their ground. The political orientation of Sandmann’s hire is irrelevant given that his statement is completely backed up by video evidence and that his family and school have been the subject of violent threats from leftists. Besides, Omar didn’t care about the left-wing PR firms hired by Parkland students.

Nevertheless, Omar persisted in spreading lies about them, all while including a link to a story decrying “white journalists” who were simply telling the truth about the incident. True, she was cowed into deleting the tweet, but she has not apologized or reversed course.

National Review’s Jim Geraghty writes, “Back in 2012, before she was elected to the state legislature or Congress, Omar tweeted, ‘Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel.’ (Israeli forces and Palestinians clashed in the Hamas-governed Gaza Strip at the time.) This led to years of accusations that Omar’s opposition to Israel had become indistinguishable from anti-Semitism, with many noting that the notion that Jews ‘hypnotize’ people is a longtime anti-Semitic trope. When asked about this in an interview on CNN January 17, Omar responded, ‘I don’t know how my comments would be offensive to Jewish Americans.’”

As Michael McAdams, National Republican Congressional Committee national press secretary noted, “Omar, who has made a name for herself by spouting off anti-Semitic rhetoric, lying about her support for the BDS movement and making disgusting false smears against Senator Lindsey Graham, has become one of the faces of Nancy Pelosi’s band of radical Democrats.”

So don’t expect Dems to treat her the way Republicans responded to King.
